FIREFLYR 0 #1 June 2, 2004 Damn kids keep hopping my fence.... I heard there was a simple security system I could install: A control box with a wire travelling around the fence (attached with zip ties) and returning to the box it also has a ground wire from the box to the ground. Does anyone know how this works? ~J"One flew East, and one flew West..............one flew over the cuckoo's nest" "There's absolutely no excuse for the way I'm about to act"
shropshire 0 #2 June 2, 2004 Hi, That might save your fence .... but I bet your windows will need some rework afterwards (.)Y(.) Chivalry is not dead; it only sleeps for want of work to do. - Jerome K Jerome
FIREFLYR 0 #3 June 2, 2004 No windows, just a fence. C'mon ANYBODY? PM or a post would help greatly. ~J"One flew East, and one flew West..............one flew over the cuckoo's nest" "There's absolutely no excuse for the way I'm about to act"
base428 1 #4 June 2, 2004 I'm not big into that particular type of system, but I am a techno-nerd. Sounds like a normally closed loop where any break in the wire would trigger an event to occur (alarm, camera, dial out, etc.). Since the wire is zip tied to the fence, and the wind could easily move the wire, I wouldn't think it would be any type of tamper wire affected by minor movement. Test it and see what happens next time. Good luck with those kids...(c)2010 Vertical Visions. base311 0 #5 June 2, 2004 Sounds like a garden-variety electric fence to me. Usually you place the wire inside insulators (as opposed to tie-wraps). Touch the wire.. get a shock. Ever tried pissing on an electric fence?? heh heh.. Check with your local Farmer's Mutual exchange (Cooperative, etc.) have fun. gardner edit to add: http://store.yahoo.com/allpetvetsupply/equmfsh006.html
FIREFLYR 0 #6 June 2, 2004 The wire is insulated(rubber/plastic coating) I touched it nuthin' happened. Next time I'll try pissing on it ~J"One flew East, and one flew West..............one flew over the cuckoo's nest" "There's absolutely no excuse for the way I'm about to act"
LouYoung 0 #7 June 2, 2004 Do you have a road anywhere near your fence? Perhaps the wire could be a big metal detector that can sense large masses of metal parking near the fence? I'm sure it's a demo model you're looking at. Maybe you can go up to the control box and tug on the wire to see if it's there to detect someone crashing through the fence? Or cutting through the fence?
FIREFLYR 0 #8 June 3, 2004 From the location it's doubtfull...if someone cut through the fence they could easily move the wire as it's only ziptied in place.. ??? this is driving me a little batty."One flew East, and one flew West..............one flew over the cuckoo's nest" "There's absolutely no excuse for the way I'm about to act"
TomAiello 25 #9 June 3, 2004 I bet those darn kids will just pull the fence up and slide underneath. Pesky little brats, I tell you.-- Tom Aiello [email protected] SnakeRiverBASE.com

jonstark 8 #15 June 4, 2004 QuoteThe wire is insulated(rubber/plastic coating) I touched it nuthin' happened. Next time I'll try pissing on it ~J It could be a wire that would indicate that it had been deformed or overheated by the inner conductor touching the outer sheath causing a closed circuit or the inner insulating material breaking down in extreme heat. It is typically uninsulated tho. For more info on your proposed installation you could look for Fenwall or Kidde on your box.
