  1. MEDIA RELEASE - Felony Theft Suspect Arrested October 17, 2013 A 40 year old Penrose man was arrested Tuesday (10/15/13) afternoon when he attempted to sell stolen skydiving equipment to a skydiving company at the Fremont County Airport. Ronald Walter Rice was booked into the Fremont County Detention Center on charges of felony theft, criminal impersonation, false reporting to authorities and introducing contraband in the 1st degree and held on a $2,000.00 bond. (Rice bonded out on 10/16/13) An employee of the skydiving company alerted sheriff’s deputies after Rice called the company trying to sell skydiving equipment. The company had been aware of an earlier theft of skydiving equipment in El Paso County. Deputies arrested Rice when he met with the skydiving company employee and attempted to sell the skydiving equipment valued at over $9,000.00. Rice gave deputies a false name at the time of his arrest and detention deputies discovered a controlled substance on his person during booking.
  2. Thats fantastic. Have a blast and Blue Skies
  3. Seems a long time ago that I wrote this first post but I am still a mere baby. 112 jumps in 3 countries in my first year and a half
  4. You can see him veer off and hit the trees. At 150mph it happens so very quickly. Blue Skies Victor
  5. I would too. I would be interested to hear of anyone that has heard otherwise. Guess he'll be checking his handles a lot more from now on
  6. Was on my iphone so its hard to type a long answer.... Back at my Mac now :-) Just come back from my 3rd trip jumping in Florida (Deland) and I also did my AFF there so here is my 2c worth: You dont need insurance but GET medical insurance as a broken leg is £50k + ...I use insure and go worldwide policy and then add the number of days skydiving to the policy @ £7.00 as day for the USA. This gives me about 20 million medical and 2 million repatriation cover. NOTE - Travel insurance and medical insurance are two different things and are completely different THe USA is a superb place to jump - great Dz's weather and very friendly locals and visitors :-) PM me if you want to know more. Blue Skies
  7. I saw a reserve ride a few days ago and spoke to the jumper. He explained that at pull time (3500ft) he reached for his pull and it wasn't there. He tried again but still nothing to grab...so he cutaway and deployed his reserve and had an uneventful landing. On the ground he found his hackey tucked up into the pouch for the pilot chute. As he was checked fully (as is the DZ policy in the UK - the DZ is very on pre-boarding checks. ) before he got onto the plane... and he said he had checked in the plane before exit... ....but must have hit it with his heel in freefall. Taking this on face value has anyone heard of the hackey being pushed into the pouch in freefall on a solo ? Jumper is A licence - rental gear - 210NAV with approx wing-loading of 1.0 and this was jump 54
  8. PM me ... I am in the UK but jump in the US a bit
  9. I hope you are not implying those girls should have controlled the canopy. That's ridiculous. Maybe I am misunderstanding you.... Rnicks - he's being ironic. Its a European thing.
  10. No they are merely passengers ! In for the ride.... controlled by the boat.... Til the cable become detached ! Its the equivalent of a tandem passenger suddenly finding themselves unhooked and with a canopy over their head.....
  11. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=079_1372742738 Someone didn't do their pre-flight checks properly. A frightening accident Monday afternoon in Panama City Beach. Witnesses tell News 13 two teenage girls were rushed to the hospital after their parasail detached from the boat pulling it. They landed in a near-by condominium parking lot. 12. Jolly Welcome... In the Uk try Langar skydivelangar.co.uk and Hinton skydive.co.uk - they could both fiot you in for AFF. The PAC course in France is slightly more basic (You tube PAC royan skydive) than AFF but I have seen many students do well learning it. Have a look at Skydive Royan website is http://www.europhenix17.fr/ They run PAC courses from duck til dawn and they have a Belgian instructor who is fluent in English. Its easy to get to and next to a beach and campsite. PM me if you need more information . I will be in Royan for a month from late July.
  13. Glad it turned out ok. I am trying to roughly work out how much loss of altitude the mal caused.... What height did you first pull at and what height did you have a reserve over head ? Thanks for posting Blue skies.
  14. Hey Yonskil, This is a good time to start in the UK. Where are you based ?
  15. Great article - any chance of getting the whole thing without paying 30USD ??
  16. Crop kid Trevor Cedar is a top instructor based at Skydive DELAND and is often coaching at the Ifly He is an AFF instructor as well 305 607-2269 Blue skies and welcome to the sport
  17. Hi Kent Not for me.Its (Netheravon/Salisbury) a part time DZ only open wed PM Friday PM and then Sat and Sundays. Hinton is 6 days (not Monday) with a brand new PAC :-) I like to be able to jump mid-week and not at weekends as I have a family. There are easier DZ for me to get to but i like the set up at Hinton. Come along and try ! Cheers Kent.
  18. http://www.airkix.com/flights-and-vouchers/offers-and-promotions.aspx?utm_source=Airkix+database&utm_medium=email&utm_term=buy+one+get+one+free&utm_campaign=Buy+one+get+one+free+-+Fathers+day Heres a 2 for 1 offer for Airkix - they just sent me the email. Note that Basingstoke is not open until at least the 1st July If you book some tunnel time let them know you are Pre-AFF. 2 minutes is a taster and will give you a good idea of freefall but don't expect much progress ! 10 minutes (in 90 second or 2 minutes slots) over a 30/60 minute period with coaching in between will really help you through AFF Have fun. Simples.
  19. Tinka, You are correct about Headcorn - even the regular jumpers say the same thing. Its focus is Tandems. If you're near Heathrow then your nearest is my local DZ (even though I drive from Brighton) which is Hinton Skydive Centre www.skydive.co.uk - its 60 miles North of you but 125 north of me :( The DZ is great for learning to skydive and then the progression onto an A Licence. If you are concerned about your breathing then I'd suggest going and having another Tandem and the DZ where you think you might want to learn to be a skydiver. Explain to the Tandem Instructor that you would like to progress in the sport You can also discuss breathing issues (which is a normal concern) and take part in a more active Tandem where the instructor may allow you to help steer the canopy to the landing area, learn the basics of the landing pattern and a few other things that would give you the heads up if you decided to go further. Have a look at an AFF course - its the most popular way to get into the sport ( This is a great video showing the levels http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feyL04OIzE4 PM me if you want to know anything else or need a person to speak to at Hinton ! Blue Skies
