  1. Phreeloader. I flew all the way from the UK to Deland to do AFF so you'll be in great hands there...try and get some tunnel time... Blue skies.
  2. Hi Grant Welcome to the baords and skydiving. My advice (as a newcomer into the sport) is definately do a Tandem to start....its quite a mind blowing experience to do a skydive so doing a tandem will give you a good idea of what to expect from an AFF course. I'd suggest that you do your tandem at the same DZ that you plan to do AFF so you get to know the place a little andd have met some of the staff. Teel your tandem instructor that you are doing AFF so you can do an 'active tandem' - you'll (probably) be able to steer the canopy and learn more than someone just doing a standard tandem. As far as DZ's, both you mention are well known - Good luck and welcome to the best sport in the world ! Steve
  3. I fell off my chair reading this remster
  4. A group of Brits at Deland - they were there when I was doing AFF.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5tkTegtrBY
  5. Thanks Degen - tried them in the tunnel in Bedford for the first time and it weird having restricted movement. I'll man up and just get in with it.... Thanks all.
  6. Thanks guys I guess I just need to get used to the feeling :)
  7. Yes nice and stable & 2 hours tunnel time. I guess the booties deflect the air flow better than a pair of converse... maybe it was me ..
  8. So I managed to get my way through AFF with a student jump suit and got myself a shiny new as a bravery reward Tried the booties in the tunnel for the first time and was a wierd--felt like the only time i tried to ice skate when I was a kid. I have jumped since without putting on the booties - but would like to get peoples feed back in the transition from just wearing my converse to being brave and wearing the booties rather than letting them flap around in the wind ! I felt there was restricted movement in my feet which freaked me out a bit..... Its a Merlin suit from Deland - even though i am in the UK Thank in advance ....
  9. WOWZA ! SUPERB !!! Well done. Post the vids if you have one.
  10. We all react to fear in different ways. Some are more perceptive and alive to danger and others are more carefree. I'd rather be on a load with people over cautious than over confident. I think your 'bowling ball speech' post doesn't really help newbies like myself or her and the fact that it was your third post makes you a troll. Go troll elsewhere. Blue Skies.
  11. Maybe you should read the new UPDATE where she conquered her fears and successfully completed AFF L 1
  12. Superb - really pleased for you well done !! :) Really glad that you managed to get through your demons. Ok..ok please remember this. They come back every time you go up..... But they get quieter and quieter each time..... Remember the cartoons....read them again and again.... BLUE SKIES + WELL DONE AGAIN !!
  13. Hey Chizz GB Before you arrive for your session call them and tell them you are doing AFF - tell them you need to have an AFF instructor... just because they tunnel fly doesn't mean they know about AFF. A good stable arch is the key - everything happens around the arch. I would book an additional session just before you fly to Arizona :) Enjoy.
  14. Welcome to the bit i really got stuck with ! The mental side of skydiving. When I posted my concerns someone guided me to Namowal brilliant blog - http://tailotherat.blogspot.co.uk/2011/08/skydiving-duck-iii-parachutting-school.html I was always amazed by 'those' people who could just open the door and jump out..... Someone told me to have faithtin myself and in my instructors, faith in my training and faith in the fact that the parachute wants to open.... I put my legs straps on so tight I could harldy walk - but it worked for me.... Blue skies...
  15. Thanks Billvon...just stored that in the 'just in case' part of my brain.
  16. OK... newbie piping into this thread here....so you've got your reserve wrapped around the tail of the plane. Not a nice thought..... WTF do you do ? Use your trusty knife to cut your lines til free and then pull your main ?
  17. Yup - me too. Jump 5 was a relaxation jump. Did nothing but smiled. They told me not to check in with them un til I had checked in with myself...just aksed me to be alti aware and pull.
  18. Joe, As an inventor myself I think this may be a case of technology looking for a home. Windsock works if there's wind. If there's no wind then they stick out a big arrow showing you which way to land. Or they use the tetrahedron (my favourite) How about the automated packing machine...that will save me learning how to pack !
