  1. I had a problems with our "free to rent" old beaten up Altimaster II when under canopy. I tend to always overshoot my landings cuz of the needle always used to get stuck at 1000. I was pretty sure it's not going to happen if I'll buy a brand new one. So my first piece of gear I bought right after AFF was a Galaxy, and I do regret not spending $100 more and not getting something like Viso II now. I put 35 jumps on my galaxy and every time when I under the canopy I have to knock on it to see whats my altitude is and I don't even bother doing so when I hit 1000ft - it's just act the same way as our "AFF" old beaten up Altimaster II. My question is.. do you - experienced jumpers still buy analog altimeters? I'm pretty sure it's a good idea to have a spare one when battery dies in your N3/Neptune/Viso ect, but I got tired to knock on that thingy every time I climb or under canopy, but have to admit - I think that it's working pretty good in a freefall...
  2. Didn't read any posts just to be honest what I learned from this video: 1. That line twist wasn't so bad at all, I do get em all the times on rental gear. She shouldn't yanked that toggle. 2. I will be buying brand new reserve, I'm not taking chances. 3. PLF is your friend. Edit: +1 for trying to collapse the slider
  3. I'm so happy that I'm divorced
  4. Hey guys, if anyone's Karma needs to be fixed/improved - please send a 50% off Wings or Aerodyne my way
  5. Well, I found out about term "tourist" from this thread. I was a tourist when I did 2 jumps @ Lodi, but actually I was a "tourist" there. I didn't get a vibe of that place and I decided not to jump there. Me and my 2 friends that i converted from wuffos into skydivers always go to our regular dz only because we do really enjoy jumping there, but it's not closest DZ to our place. Yes DZ's is a business and Tandems with AFF is what make it running, but our DZO/Manager is always happy to lift a Pac if there are at least 6 fun jumpers willing to jump. I'm agree that skydivers are really friendly peoples. My be OP act like a "Customer", not like a skydiver at particular DZ and that's why he got treated like a dollar sign. Stop being a customer and become a part of the family and you will be treated like a family member
  6. I just went trought my posts and realized that I din't introduce myself properly.... i usually go to forums/facebook when Im not so sober. So about me: I'm 30 y.o. Anvil brother (6'3 250lbs) i haven't jumped for 16 years. My first jump was back in 1995 when I was 13 @ Air club owned by Belarussian air force (Yak-53 and Mi2 training facility for the jet fighters and Mil heli pilots). there was also parachutists training facility there. Jump ship is An-2. Back then they din't have a fancy AFF. We had to jump D-5 rounds with drought chutes for 3 times and then progress to D1-5U and UT-15 (Soviet Paracomander). I was jumping on the weekends and my mom thought I'm hanging out with a girls. After she found out that I'm jumping - she grounded my ass and send me to college. I had to stop jumping in order not to be dropped from a college and actually start studding, otherwise i would get drafted, and because my airclub is a military owned facility I could easily ended up in VDV (Airborne) and that is wasn't my plan. In 2005 I moved in US and I start to thinking about jumping again, bu was too busy working 2 jobs to make my living. In 2011 I've got an roommate who was actually a skydiver (he will be jumping Dubai 500) and he was able to steer me into the right direction. So i went trough AFF and here we go I'm a cool guy now jumping ram air from a turbine
  7. First time I jumped was when I was 13 back in 1995. It was a Soviet D-5 round with a drogue. i've been told after that - even if you jumped once - you are parachutist for life, I also jumped UT-15 (Russian Paracommander) few times. Should i update my profile with 17 years in sport?
  8. Ha, most AFFI's that I know will be proud that their student was able to land safely on the parking lot.... how many experienced jumpers can do it intentionally? So i would say that she owes you a beer ;) When peoples get their AFFI they know what they signing up for.
  9. What OP was trying to say is that buying from a dealer most of the time will cost just a little bit more ($100-200) then buying gear with xx% off cert, but some peoples ask for that certs way too much most of the time, and buyer actually ended up paying more. yeah, you have a right to sell your cert to someone like me, who just got into the sport(industry), and not knowing that MSRP(retail) means Manufacturer SUGGESTED retail price.
  10. I was about to buy an 50% off wings few month ago right after AFF, but I did my homework and used a "search" button and found a Bigway's thread with a lot of good info. Right now i see some one selling $400 off Aerodyne canopy for $300. If you go to Square1->Main Parachutes and check their price for a Pilot: AD Pilot 210 - MSRP: $2,058.00 S1 price - $1,850.00 So you pay $300 for a cert and get $400 off MSRP. 2058-400+300=$1958 I still keep my eyes open if 50% off container will pop up in adds for $100, but it's like winning a lottery Edit: Just find out that Rigs and Things sells articulated Wings for $1372 go figure
  11. Tested by TSO standards does not mean certified. "Airtec certified" means you may safely use cypres in that rig. FAA TSO certification cost crazy amount of money for a rig manufacturer.
  12. I really wanted to get one, but it's not TSO'd and I can't jump it legally in US
  13. try http://www.skycentre.net/index.php?showtopic=3030 Gotta use google translate...hope it helps
  14. My "hyperventilating" was gone @ AFF 2, just relax and you will be fine
  15. 3 of us bought RW suits from them. We had a friend who was travelling from Kiev to San Fran to pick it up. Very good suits. They do have rep in Boston I think.
  16. yup did see that, I assume PD260/280 is F111 and Navigators are hybrid?
  17. That make sense, but I when I see adds selling gear from late 90's early 2000's with only "200-300" jumps....I'm curious how do I make sure it's true? It's all based on my experience.. I think most used Voyagers/Solo/Navis comes from DZ's. @ my DZ rental/student rigs gets jumped approx 20-30 times a week...
  18. thanks for all that info guys. Most likely I will go custom made Wings + new Solo/Voyager + new Smart+used AAD, so that way I can sell it for a good price to another bigboy after few years without loosing shitload of money and get something more fancy :) Blue...
  19. Yup, I did see this ad long time ago, thanks for a link anyway. I decided to do my math on tat particular rig... 1. Container.. same options from Sq1... = 1425+(200-SS 3 rings+SR Spacer Foam Backpad & Legpads $150+Soft Reserve Handle (listed as free) total = $1775 2.Main: Brand new from Sq1/Skydivestore - new Solo $1575/Voyager $1628 3.Reserve: Smart for $1080 from Sq1 4.AAD. Cypres-2 AAD (1-Pin) Expert 1 - $1475 Total: $5930 Now let's say seller telling truth and rig have 120 jumps(container/main) and DOM is 2005 1.Container: $1775-$120(amount of jumps-$700 (7 years old) = $995 2 Main: $1628-$120-$400=1108 3. Reserve. I have no Idea how to calculate depreciation so Ill just use -$100 a year. I don't know what Sharpchuter Reserves used to be going for but I use Smart price..$1080-$700=380 4. Cypres that have 6 years left that required 4 yrs maintenance and battery -$600??? Total: $3000-$3100 - rig listed for $4300. Am I missing something? Do I calculate something wrong? please don't affraid to educate my noob a$$
