How can you estimate amount of jumps on main
Maksimsf replied to Maksimsf's topic in Gear and Rigging
Thanks guys, good info. -
They are working on obtaining official JTSO now. No they don't have A TSO cert - it was tested according to TSO standards, but not certified. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4290298;search_string=SWS;#4290298

How can you estimate amount of jumps on main

When you buy a canopy and if it's stated amount of jumps how can you estimate condition? That was my question. Edit: Dave pretty much answered it :) -
How can you estimate amount of jumps on main
Maksimsf replied to Maksimsf's topic in Gear and Rigging
Question for riggers and experienced jumpers. If someone saying that main canopy got 500 jumps, but in reality it may be 1000 jumps or more - how can you tell? I do understand that 500 jumps in Arizona, Texas or SoCal may do more damage than 500 jumps somewhere up North. Is that just a matter of trust between seller and buyer? -
Woah :) ask them if you may fly naked
-
Do you happen to own a screw driver or know someone who does? If so, then you are in luck!

Depends on manufacturer and kind of suit you will be getting. It also depend on your fall rate. Don't worry about that yet. Tunnel got suits to borrow and DZ will get you suits for AFF, by the time you graduate you will have an idea what suit you will need. Dealer or manufacturer of the suits will help you with a measurements.

After you finish it - pass it to your girlfriend :)

Not the typical "rig for a newbie" question (I think).
Maksimsf replied to Deimian's topic in Gear and Rigging
I would invest money in new H/C and reserve and get a used main. Keep in mind - that if you will have to chop there is a possibility not to recover your main and at the same time new reserve will give you more piece of mind when you have to chop :) Also container that fits well is a big deal. I recently demoed used nice rig with ~50 jumps, but when it was time to pull - I couldn't rich my hackey - second attempt - barely made it out. I did practice on the ground - no problem, but when you on the ground your container may sits lower then in freefall. It's not that hard to find a 170-200sqf used main. -
That is awesome, congrats! What was a previous record? And who set it?

Nice, they got someone in Queensland! hope we will get some dealers across the pond some day.

Same thing, but was trying to post in "Reserve" section. Also when I hit post an add - i get this: OK The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. +1 Chuck On my jump 10 or so DZM stopped me when I was walking towards a plane on the taxiway call - I didn't do my chest strap at all. 15 jumps later I found my chest strap misrouted just before leaving the plane. I nearly killed myself 2 times already, since then I always do few gear check before boarding and in the plane and keep an eyes on other peoples gear especially chest straps and handles. Would they rather be injured/killed?

If big bully sell stuff at a loss - they hurt them self - not competitors, price wars is the win win for consumer, don't you think so? -
Jump Shack Angel Fire or PD-R which one would you buy?
Maksimsf replied to Maksimsf's topic in Gear and Rigging
PD-R is only $50 more, which one would you buy and why? I was considering Smart before, but 250 sqf is the maximum they have and I'm looking for 280+, sems like Smart,AG,PD-R cost pretty much the same now ($1080,$1100,$1150 (dealer price)) -
He is also saying that Co-Pilots are unnecessary too... http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2010/sep/08/ryanair-axe-unnecessary-co-pilots

I was thinking just to use it as a reserve only, but I got your point. Landing it downwind after cutaway may have a bad results :(

I just bought Raven III DOM '92 that was never jumped or assembled for dirt cheap, but not sure if I should use it due to WL of 1.15:1 I searched all over DZ.com and everyone saying that old style reserves shouldn't be loaded more than 1:1. Plan B is to try to trade it for something like Raven IV or PDR 280+? Anyone jumped Raven III 249 as a main loading it 1.1-1.2?

One of the Eval versions turned me away. I will stick to the 7 and Ubuntu for a couple of years. I learned hard way since '95 not to jump on Microsoft products right after their release. Win 8 SP3 - may be :)

You never jumped a tandem as a student, will you do it for free now?

Liability Insurance for Instructors
Maksimsf replied to stephepearson's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Liability Insurance for AFFI's, Packers, TM's, Riggers, ect... may be, but then AFF will cost $3k+, pack job $15+ and RI $200+.. No thanks I'm ok with waiver. -
Does your DZ try to guilt you if you have a cutaway?
Maksimsf replied to -SK-'s topic in General Skydiving Discussions
i chopped rental once at infamous DZ that charge $35 for jump with a rental. didn't get charged a penny and been told to get another rig and get back on the horse. It's a good question. I still jump rental at my home DZ and I will probably ask my DZO next time about that. All I know is no matter what you jump (own or rental) - If you chop - you have to buy a big ass Jack D for the rigger.. -
Packing for shorter snivel/faster opening?
Maksimsf replied to lepidoctora's topic in Gear and Rigging
Leave the fast openings for your reserve and enjoy your main slow openings. A lot of older guys will tell you here that if their main takes more then 500 ft. to open - it's a malfunction -
Not sure if it was DD or just a gust from the side http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e70RDItSTe8
