  1. I would like to see that. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  2. Well any real merit of this conversation just died.. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  3. Not those exact ones, but I've worn a balaclava from Underarmour. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  4. Having no problems with it=being ok with it. Thanks for affirming my original point. It is not true that you can have a similar name with no restrictions. It's more complicated. You are right that there are terms that cannot be trademarked or protected; they are called generic terms. For example, anyone can use the words fast food. But if the name in question can be misunderstood by consumer's, the original owners may have a valid complaint. Once again, see the case of Victor's Secret v. Victoria's Secret. And I have never said that I'm not a crusade against all businesses who patronize Skyride. Read my previous posts if you'd like to see what my position is. Last, just because someone hasn't been sued/prosecuted yet doesn't mean they haven't broken the law. That one should be clear enough.
  5. Well honestly at no point does some else breaking the law too much for me. Because its not me doing it. I never said I was ok with stealing trade marks so dont spin my words to support your agenda. I'm not spinning your words. You said you were ok with Skyride's practices. You also said you would be fine breaking the law if you felt you needed to to provide for your family. Your words. And I'm not sure what the first part of your response is supposed to mean.... I understand that you've stated that this is all your opinion. You are perfectly entitled to those opinions, but that doesn't change the fact that they are incongruent with the laws in America and many other nations. Dear sir you are totally spinning my words. Read that bold section then go back and reread my post a little slower so you understand. Then come back and show me where I said that. . What exact laws have they broken? Not your opinion or interpretation of the law. They are definitely treading a serious grey area. "When I worked at jump jax they accepted skyride and I made a lot of money off of them I have no issues with them. Skyride may have deceptive marketing but its working cause they are making cash." That sure sounds like you're ok with it to me. And there is no law without interpretation. We are in a common law system. But the interpretation that matters is the courts', not mine. And common law supports that Skyride has, to name a few, committed acts of cyber-squatting, trademark infringement, trademark dilution, and wire fraud. There's a few for you. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  6. Anyone know of a decent compilation of skydiving footage that can be found online? Hosting a table for my university club and I'd like some footage to just play on a loop. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  7. Jump 17. And no, not particularly. I spent a full day learning to pack and doing it over and over. I felt pretty comfortable by then. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

  9. At what point does someone's breaking of the law become too much for you? I assume you're not ok with my previous example about hit men, but you are ok with illegally stealing trademarks. Where do you personally draw the line? I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  10. Hmmmmmm...is there something wrong there? As far a legal. you may want to investigate Skydive Arizona's law suit. It might get you to re-think "creative marketing" and legality. Then again, it might not. Take a look and then decide. They tried the same thing by filing a law suite against Mike Mullins when he was in coolage and they lost. Even if they loose they will never pay a dime. They will simply file bankruptcy and open a new business. That's not how bankruptcy works either... 11. Beat me to the point Andy. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  12. While skyride uses some creative marketing tacktics its not illegal. If i wanted to open Fort Brag window tinting there is not a damn thing the military can do to stop me from using that name. Legally you can change one letter in a company name and nothing can be done. You guys are a bunch of babies crying out Blus sky magazine. They are not skyride. When I worked at jump jax they accepted skyride and I made a lot of money off of them I have no issues with them. Skyride may have deceptive marketing but its working cause they are making cash. Ok a few things about this reply: 1. The fact that the business is "making cash" does not mean it's practices are acceptable. Simple logical analogy: I start a hit business and it's exceptionally profitable. Does that make it ok? Of course not. 2. Changing a letter absolutely does NOT protect you from trademark infringement laws. It's called trademark dilution. Victoria's Secret sued a lingerie shop called Victor's Secret and won, as an example. If I recall correctly, among the complaints the Skydive AZ made against Skyride, dilution was one of them. And Skyride lost. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  13. I'll vouch for you on that Andy. I appreciate that you spend more time on students.
  14. I liked that list too. Got a spare copy in my gearbag for occasional review. And I'm also wondering what the above poster is referring to w.r.t. the downplane scenario. Even if the risers are entangled, what other option is there? I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  15. Not exactly. They are large enough to be towns, but they are military installations. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  16. I don't like Skyride, but I wouldn't quit skydiving rather than jump at one of their DZs. For some, moving isn't an option due to education, work, or family situations. To simply refuse to jump period is far too extreme for me. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  17. At first, I just laughed at your replies. Now I'm groaning.. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  18. +1 I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  19. Reminded me that I needed to renew my subscription. Went for 2 years instead of 1 this time. Aye. Reminded me to send some positive feedback I've been meaning to give for a while. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  20. Ok, I don't like Skyride's business practices, and I wouldn't patronize their DZs if I had other options, but cancelling my BS subscription over this would be a bit ridiculous. I don't like the businesses, but I don't have a problem with the jumpers themselves. Sure, some of you have and will it clear that you equate patronage of a SR DZ with support of their practices. I simply don't go so far. Even if I held this against BS, that still wouldn't justify terminating my subscription. Consider all the excellent things they do. This sure as hell isn't enough to outweigh the pros of the magazine. I will continue reading the magazine and enjoying it. If you cancelled your subscription, your loss.
  21. I think there are some very relevant differences between putting out fires/responding to car accidents and rescuing this guy from the tree. Namely the issue of choice. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  22. Last I heard, he wasn't flying it anymore cause someone left the seatbelt unhooked and it beat the fuselage up pretty good from 10k I heard the same...how frustrating. On my two rides, he was very adamant about the seatbelts. It was a Bell 407. Not a closed cabin. As for the Vigil II fire, there's not too much to say. He didn't feel anything at the time. When he stood up to prepare for exit, everyone noticed his reserve PC in his seat. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  23. Was on a helicopter last week at Invasion and a friend's Vigil II fired during the ride. Scary. Several riggers said a Cypres would not have fired in the same scenario. Someone on here can surely elaborate. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
  24. Nice thread. I agree with everything I read there. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
