On every gear check, among other things, I inspect both three ring systems to make sure they're set up properly. My question is what might cause a problem in them. Say that I make five jumps one day. What sort of things might tamper with them between jumps 3 and 4? It certainly cannot hurt to check 1000 times and never see a problem, while that one time I failed to check them and something was misrigged could kill me, so I'll continue to be anal about them. Muscle memory. From a deployment point of view, it makes no difference at that point. Really just fostering a good habit - that extra second or two it *could* take to realize your reserve isn't deploying could be the difference in life or death. Ian That makes perfect sense. Hey all, starting up a skydiving club at UGA. We had one a few years ago, but it died out as people graduated. Been taking a long look at Ben Lee's material and talking to other clubs in the area. We haven't started recruiting yet, but we've already got around seven licensed or soon to be licensed jumpers. I'm excited for the possibilities in the coming years. If any of you have any suggestions for newer clubs I'd love to hear them. I'd like to build off of successful models. Also, we need a graphic designer, so if you're interested, shoot me a PM. Was on an eight way last weekend that sort of fell apart out of the door. Was supposed to quickly become a zipper, but a few people tumbled/etc. So the question is how to get back together.. I assume that if there's a distinct base, it stays put and everyone builds off of it again. But what if there's not a defined base, like in the zipper? Have you gotten a cost estimate on what you'll pay in legal fees to defend a libel action? I may be wrong, but if she is ONLY exposing the truth and not fabricating info, why would she need to pay legal fees? Because in the American legal system, being right (and we have no idea if he/she would be guilty of libel) does not preclude you from paying legal defense fees. It's been a hot topic for many years. You're right that there aren't tons of free training videos. It's not cheap to make a quality video. Slots/video still cost money, production costs aside. There is a ton of free text-based material though. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

I read both the Skydiver's Handbook and the Parachute and Its Pilot. (Both mentioned above.) The first is a good intro to many basic concepts. A good student-status book. Germain's book was very interesting. I learned a ton and will certainly be revisiting it several times. So get them both. And search for general articles. I found a good website with safety articles a while ago, but I can't find the link... You get the idea. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
