  1. Here, from his great collection of skydiving pix on Flickr, is Jerry Irwin's picture of Mike Barber landing what I guess is a Strato Star at I guess Z-Hills. HW
  2. If the ceiling info for Everett is close enough for you at Snohomish, searching for METAR KPAE will give you several sources. USAIRNet is helpful, but it's a forecast, not a report. HW
  3. On the bottom of the dropzone locator page is a list of ten top-rated DZs. Below it is a link to the list of the 20 top-rated DZs. The lists are different (the top ten on the first is not the same as the top ten on the longer list.) What am I missing? HW Edited to add: I notice that some of those on the smaller list do not have the required number of reviews to make it to the longer one. But I'm still a bit confused as to what the point is.
  4. This note from Maj.Gen. Chuck Yeager has been circulating around among military aviators and jumpers, with the hope it will be distributed more widely. HW
  5. (...sometimes, in fact most of the time, known as Gary Pond.) HW
  6. I was really wondering whether either is still alive and able to contact my friend, who is mentioned in both of their books. HW
  7. A friend is looking for Bud Sellick and Howard Gregory, both of whom wrote books about skydiving in the 60s and later. Anyone know them? There's a Bud Sellick in the Nashville white pages -- is that the one? If you know them or know of them, I'd appreciate a PM. HW
  8. Toast Titanium 10 has a Convert function which does AVCHD conversion to several formats. It seems to work nicely and reasonably fast. HW
  9. That "filler" is on the DVD. I first saw it, as a separate 16-mm movie, at a Lake Placid, NY, meet shortly before the Gypsy Moths came out in theaters. It was brought there by Jerry Rouillard, who was one of the jumpers in the film. HW
  10. In the process of looking for news stories about the event, I found this. HW
  11. Being ejected (at least from a plane) is not one of them. HW
  12. Here's 5, cleaned up a little. HW
  13. If I can find the originals on Google, I'll see if I can get better versions. HW
  14. If it's not sport gear, there's no reason I would have seen it except by odd chance HW
  15. Too bad they're poor quality as posted. Here's a really quick 'n dirty Photoshop fixup of one. I can't find them on Google either. HW
  16. I was interested because I'd never seen one before. A local dealer/rigger just got them; I don't know what he's going to do with them. HW
  17. Some more of the insides. Note that lots of stuff was tacked down for storage and/or shipment. HW
  18. I had forgotten that picture from your earlier post, in my enthusiasm at finding the early pictures of Istel etc. I just revisited the collection to see if I'd missed anything. And, yes, I've found a lot of the pictures obviously mislabeled. Both the plane and the jump look to be a lot earlier; doubt that anyone would be able to do that in 1972. HW
  19. Well, if we're being picky, he probably didn't really "jump," either. HW
  20. FCE4 is the latest version.Final Cut Pro 4 is old. HW
  21. These pictures are from the Google archive of LIFE magazine photos. The only ID info is: Anyone know who and where? (And what canopy?) HW
  22. Cool. So, now want to describe these things? HW
  23. This was a new one on me; on a rig I looked over today. Know what it is? HW
  24. Wow, that's really 'back in the day'. HW
