  1. BIG welcome. Enjoy it here and good luck finding a ride/transport. You might also include you'd be willing to pay for some gas if someone in the area would let you carpool with 'em. _______________________________________
  2. Welcome, welcome and enjoy the forum. _______________________________________
  3. Congrats!! ....and welcome. Glad you decided to go big. _______________________________________
  4. Welcome!! Enjoy. _______________________________________
  5. Oh snap!! I've been called out?.... Ha ha! I could do it though, even if it takes years. _______________________________________
  6. I like that idea but it seems like everybody is afraid to try anything at all. All I was asking is would it be worthwhile to get input from anyone/everyone on what main canopy will fit into what container within reason and what just wont or makes no sense to be stuffing into it. Oh well, why not just keep on doing things the hard way.... _______________________________________
  7. 2 to 1?... damn it. Ok, I can see how the ideal fit situation creates shades of gray. I just figured people change canopies, newer people buy them, there's swapping and rigs being pieced together all the time.... _______________________________________
  8. Yeah but the French government may have been onto something, not that they were right for an absolute but.... why wouldn't the skydiving community want to compile a list of what is and isn't known to work. I think there are skydivers and maybe or maybe not riggers in particular who could start something like this. I really do appreciate the link but I am aware, as it is easily apparent from a little reading, that volumes vary enough to be problematic and that's reason enough for a yay or nay by container. _______________________________________
  9. I think I searched pretty well and somebody delete this if it's completely worthless but it seems like a good idea for a sticky in this section would be a sizing chart for canopies and containers. I see a lot of this canopy in this container but how about a comprehensive chart that shows what canopies will fit in each container? Again if something like this exists then my bad. _______________________________________
  10. Welcome, welcome!! You might really enjoy the freestyle kind of stuff. Enjoy the forum and the skies!! _______________________________________
  11. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. The nature of this and all message boards is that there will always be bad advice and hundreds of reposts because people want to ask specific questions about themselves or just talk about themselve in general. And that's kind of taking the easy road. The harder way would be reading previous posts and trying to relate that to the readers situation. This isn't a perfect system in car forums either. Most people don't want to sift through so many threads and posts to maybe find an answer so they ask a specific question. Haters just make things worse there too. Two wrongs never make a right. _______________________________________
  12. I feel the same way about peoples experiences, whether they're young, old, new, experienced, good, bad or indifferent. We've all got different talents and skills and it takes all kinds. Discouraging people isn't always the answer, though we should all probably filter what we read on the internet. _______________________________________
  13. Not to take away from anything anyone else said, and I admit I'm not experienced enough to do so anyway.... It took me 5 attemps and 3 different techniques before I learned to turn but now that I found out what works for me I can turn almost exactly how I want to (talking about only a few degrees of tolerance). My good friend and coach showed me a technique where I simply dip one arm straight down 90°, elbow still bent, straight down - where my forearm would be right in front of my face if I was looking down that is. Another coach told me this is more of an advance technique some coaches prefer not to show students until they're sure the student is ready but hey... it worked like a damn charm for me!! The other thing that is helping me imensely is the use of an RW suit I aquired, and most of the people I've talked to agree that jumpwear makes a world of difference, especially in learning to fly, and like a static line, the jumpsuit is something you can jump without later on when the skills have come along further. I'll be jumping with my suit for some time to come before I take the "training wheels" off. _______________________________________

  19. The reality is that not all DZ's actually give a shit about their students to the degree a lot of people would like, which I can attest to personally. _______________________________________

  22. Welcome. I couldn't have said it better than those three. ^^ Definitely enjoy the forums here because there is a LOT of good info and when you do the tandem just have the time of your life and if you're like the rest of us you'll be completely hooked! _______________________________________
  23. I basically went by myself. My girlfriend talked me into going with her to do a tandem, she'd done 2 at the time and me none, but when we got there she backed out... oh well. She told me to go anyway so I did! I've been going every weekend since then and even though I'm usually the quiet one I've still managed to make friends with pretty much everyone there. I'm sure it's true that you'll make friends quickly if you want to. _______________________________________
  24. Lets keep this thread going please!! I'm sure there are a lot of us newbies who would want to know more. _______________________________________
