Hey I have two buddies that just cleared off student status and don't have any plans for turkey day so they are just going to come enjoy the atmosphere and eat if thats cool. They are more than bummed about not being able to jump but still want to hang out and maybe get some grub. Is that ok?

I was just think about how weird it would be to be at a Halloween party and see a dude with a jumpsuit, helmet, goggles, and fully rigged up ready to jump just walking around...might be good for next year after I finally buy a rig.

Funny this is up because a guy on my load had a chop today. First one I had seen. Me and another guy were the first two out and pulled at 3k so I noticed something was wrong when I saw a tiny white chute about a thousand feet below me....then I saw the PC and the freebag floating down to earth. Apparently he had some pretty nasty line twists and since he was jumping a "handkerchief" as his wife said, he had to chop it. Everyone on the DZ went after his chopped equipment and by the time he was back underneath the packing shed they were already there handing him his main. Shows how good the folks at our DZ are. Glad everything worked out fine for him.

Damn you beat my delivery story haha. We were out in the field training once...last night out there after like 3 weeks in the freezing cold and we are all bedded down and out of nowhere our 1st sergeant starts yelling at everyone to get up and get in formation...real serious business. All we could think was "Ah hell Iran or Korea has gone off the edge..." Yea we all got lined up at like 1am in about 4 degree cold to get 1 slice of pizza each haha. Nice thought and all but I wanted nothing more than to get back in my fart sack.

Haha yea generally if you get whoever is yelling in on it their yelling gets a bit less loud.

It looks like he's a Cadet Second Lieutenant in ROTC. Are they considered deadly weapons at that point? Ah yea could be...I was gonna call shenanigans because that almost looks like a CWO4 rank....and a CWO4 will have a shit ton more than 3 ribbons.

I don't know how many military jumpers are on here but the other day I was on a DZSO (Drop Zone Safety Officer) detail on Normandy DZ here at Ft. Bragg. My job essentially was to hold a strobe light during a night jump so the jumpmaster knew when to start kicking the guys out. Of course its the Army so we get out there before the sun is even down and decide...to hell with this lets try and get some food out here. Military DZ's are pretty strict especially on jump days but we called up Papa John's and told the lady we were at Normandy DZ and got a really big confused silence. We gave directions and eventually we got a call: "Umm I see a bunch of Army trucks and a lot of guys waving their arms around...is that you?" Hell yea its us haha.

About 1.89 or so out here and lifts are still 24.

Do a military static line combat equipment jump at night. That should put the fear of god into ya.

True story: During my first AFF jump I was having a little trouble with my legs and keeping them from flopping around and I was wearing big Ipath skate shoes. AFF jump number two I wore vans slip ons and was perfect. Haha. I'm a big fan of the vans...I mean they are aerodynamic and most importantly really cheap.

THANKS!! Just what I was looking for! A couple of my buddies that did the AFF at Raeford said that they were all over the place in the wind tunnel but when they actually jumped they were much better at keeping control. I would chalk that up to the wind tunnel experience.

I've been an avid boulder guy for some time now. I immediately noticed a parallel of elitism when I got into skydiving. Before I went to Iraq and lost all my strength, I was climbing V7-V8 and some of the guys I climbed with that were around my level would berate a lot of the more inexperienced climbers without giving them any advice. I see the same in the skydiving community. Some experienced jumpers help the new guys a lot and give them tips etc, much as I did to new climbers, but there are others that just seem to think they are too awesome for the "noobs". One of the best quotes I have read in a while, "Elitists climbers: Really in the grand scheme of things you just climb rocks well.", can be translated even better to skydiving. "Elitist skydivers: In the grand scheme of things, you just fall out of airplanes well."

4 AFF so far. Army guys seem to want to get into it once they are informed about it. One of those things they always wanted to do but just never actually did.

Ya you probably won't make nearly as much lift. Granted it will most likely be colder there and the air will be more dense because of that but being a mile high will take a good amount of your lift away haha.

Is an A required? I've got a couple buddies that really wanna go and are done with AFF, but don't have 25 jumps done yet. Any chance they could get some solo jumps in out there?
