  1. I think the only way you could get me into a Robby is with a damn parachute. I'm scared to death of those piles of crap.
  2. I wouldn't consider the National Guard and active duty army the same by any means....but I still think you guys should be able to jump with the GK.
  3. Raeford, NC is open year round and they usually jump Wed-Sunday...subject to change though
  4. I was watching the whole story on CNN or something for a while and surprisingly they didn't harp on the skydiving part so much as the crazy scheme he set up. After he hopped out I guess he grabbed up a motorcycle that he had in storage and was waiting for him to "escape". Then his buddy gets on and says he totally believes that what he told ATC was what happened. Riiiiiight.
  5. Its amazing how if there is any possible way you could die by doing something in skydiving its already happened. Death by aglet...haha who would have thunk.
  6. Be carfeful with things such as zip ties and wraps. A buddy of mine used to put a little lock on the reserve so that it didn't get pulled by security. Wouldn't you know he realized on the way to altitude that he had forgoten to take it off! Lol I did the same thing on the reserve handle but as soon as I got home I triple checked everything to make sure its good to go. I ran that very scenario through my head a couple times haha.
  7. Just went through Raleigh Durham Airport the other day through O'Hare continuing to a final dest of John Wayne/Orange County. Carried the rig on without any covering. I zip tied the leg straps onto the shoulder straps, ran the chest strap through the center of the reserve handle and tucked my monkey fist into the spandex. Sent it through the X-Ray machine without a single word. I got yelled at for putting my laptop bag in the same bin as my laptop but thats the only thing they said to me. Throughout the 11 hour total trip only one perosn said anything to me and it was some huge guy behind me asking me why I have a wire coming out of my backpack. I explained it was the cutaway cable and its a parachute and got the standard whuffo: You can carry those on? I replied " yea sure man." To which I got "What are you scared of the plane that much?" hahahahha priceless. Soon after he said "Dang I wish I had one of those too...I'd feel way better getting on this thing." Cliffs: Carried it on my back no cover and had zero problems at all. Didn't have to show any cards or anything. Made out to be way more of a big deal than it is.
  8. Haha thats amazing. Even better is that I'm pretty sure the entire time he was coming off the hill he was holding onto his head going "What the hell just happened?"
  9. Haha I swear I think they are more conflicting opinions in skydiving than any other sport in the world....
  10. I was just talking to my dad about this. He is right pissed about it. He flies in the private jet business and this will make his job harder and more complicated on all fronts for no real productive purpose.
  11. Shoulda guessed it was old by the jumpsuits haha.
  12. Maybe a repost...but still awesome.
  13. I started out doing the 1-7 AFF program at San Diego and then after my 3rd jump went to another DZ (Raeford) that used the standard A,B,C, etc. program. They are both the same just different ways of measuring progress I guess. I was cleared for level 4 at San Diego and then when I went to Raeford they had me do the D1 jump. From what I could tell between the two they accomplish the same things set out by the USPA but just have a different way of naming them.
  14. Hahahahah I'm crying right now. Hahaha
  15. Wow chill...I'm just saying that if you are really dedicated to it and really want to do it you can make it happen. Whether it takes years to do it or not. Sure getting my rotary license is going to cost a ton and I can't afford much of it right now but I'm still going to save up and work at it and get it done because I love it that much. If I wasn't very dedicated to it the cost would turn me away because its not worth it to me....but I love it enough to sacrifice a lot of other things to save for flying. If you really wanted to get your time in a Lear, you would make it happen but its not important enough to you to for the cost. I mean if getting a skydiving license was 20 bucks there would be tons of people doing it that just are not passionate about it. If you are willing to work your ass off for the 2000+ dollars it costs to get your A license then its pretty obvious that you are passionate about jumping...and personally if someone doesn't love jumping I wouldn't want to jump with them.
  16. The lightning bolt has symbolic significance as a weapon of Indra But what about ZEUUUUUUSSSSS!!!!!???
  17. Bingo.. Ding Ding Ding Ding.. we have a winner!!! So let me see if I got this right.. you started skydiving because you thought it made you "cool"? Then once you figured out you were just another jumper like anyone else the "cool" factor went away. Was this before or after you realized that the whole "I'm cool because I'm a skydiver" thing doesn't work to pick up women? Somebody had to say it... Do I get a prize or something now? I don't see how the 2000+ dollar A license fees make skydiving as accessible as skateboarding. Getting into the sport costs an enormous amount and keeps it pretty limited to people that really want to do it...The cool thing ya sure...but if you don't think skydiving is cool then why do it haha
  18. I know a lot of people that don't climb but still use carabiners. I think the true mark of a climber is white chalk all over themselves haha.
  19. Ah got it. I knew I was missing some other catastrophe that could happen. I've seen videos of people getting into the burble and just rocketing down from like 50 feet up into people doing RW and it looks nasty...I'm sure a premi could also make for some interesting problems.
  20. Hahaha I can't help but notice the hybrid man hanging directly in the no fly zone. I'm again assuming that these areas are no fly zones because of burbles and people coming down fast on top of each other?
  21. I' assuming when you guys refer to the "kill zone" that you are talking about the edge of the burble?
