Even at 2.8 with a 14 you have a pretty massive DOF. I shot at 1/60, 160 ISO at around f/20 so you set manual focus just back from infiniti and you pretty much get a DOF where you're in focus from 6 inches to infiniti. I used FCP 7 with no color correction. All shot at Skydive Taft in CA. I would have loved to get some awesome hangout stuff after the day was done but Taft is a pretty quiet DZ and everyone kind of just went home little by little. Nothing really happened haha

I have another 20D body that I actually jump. I've been kind of afraid to jump my 7D as it's my main body and I'm a student at a photography school so I'm using it constantly and don't want to hurt it. However, I'm planning on shooting a short doc on skydiving and want to shoot purely DSLR video so I think I'll be jumping it soon. Sans the grip of course.

I just got signed onto solo status last weekend. First solo jump seems reasonable for me to jump a gripped 7D, 580EX II and a 300 F/2.8 L.

Good idea. Luckily it's a 580 EXII so it has about a 190 guide number. With a snoot or maybe even a grid it should have enough power to reach the subject.

I'm assuming people have tried shooting video with a 7D or 5D MkII in the past but was wondering if anyone got any decent results with it. Stories, opinions, suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

Its a RAWA Image helmet with the Rawa side mount box. I've tried moving the camera around in the box and it doesn't seem to be moving at all and I'm pretty sure I'm not shaking my head around haha

Hey guys just a quick question. I set my CX 110 to standard image stabilization and seemed to get a small high frequency shake during freefall. Should I turn it onto the advanced setting or just turn it off completely? It's not horrible but noticeable. I can provide footage of the problem if needed. Thanks a ton for the help.

I jump a full face with the visor removed and some ESS glasses. I like them a TON more than the visor or goggles. I think you can see more, its more comfortable, and even freeflying doesn't shove air into your eyes. I'd recommend it.

eh...thats the dz rigger in three of the four photos anyway. I think the pond needs snappers.... Seeing where the water for the pond came from I wouldn't be surprised if there were snappers...and more in that lagoon of a swoop pond.

Well it still has about a foot left to be completely full but it comes up to most people's waist so I would say it is deg swimable. As for the bright blue XF2 going across there I plan on staying dry for a little bit. haha

For all the swoopers the pond is in business starting today.

Saw a video flyer at Deland with dreads at least as big as those. He had a rear entry video helmet and he kind of just squished them all to his head with the closing latch on the back of the helmet. Didn't look comfortable at all.

I tried flying an RC helicopter and gave up. When it turns and faces you and everything is backwards...ya forget that.

That doesn't have anything to do with how "complicated" adding a bit of power is. Being towed is far more "complicated" than shoving in a bit of throttle. I don't know man...shoving in a bit of throttle can be more complicated than that. Say for instance you're rate of closure is too fast in a helicopter and you "shove in a bit of throttle". Uh oh....now you are in a settling with power situation which is bad news bears. That plus all the added things you have to monitor and do to ensure your engine will continue working.

Hahahahah I'm dying over here. Thats hilarious. Oh and in addition to what I said about the 180 auto in a helicopter...swooping is like that combined with a run on landing. And those are fun fun fun and scary scary scary....pretty much the same as swooping.
