  1. The beginning of wisdome is the concept that, "I know nothing"! Knowing what questions to ask is as important as knowing the answers.
  2. Ive got it on video from the ground I just need to figure out how to down load it properly The jm said she did it all just right good arch no delay Well done!!!!
  3. Lawyers dont jump!!!! "This one does!!! Welcome to the skies> I felt the same way six months ago and still cant stop thinking about it!
  4. I have only been jumping for sport for six months or so but, I have been rock climbing since I was fourteen. I have noticed that the training and awareness is similar in the two sports. Equipment checks and awareness of use, emergency procedure drills, and awareness of other climbers/jumpers. I also recognize many similarities in the responses from non climbers and non jumper ex. (Are you nuts) etc. Do you all notice these and think they are a bonus or a detractor for safe jumping? Are there any other "extreme sports" with other similarities?
  5. somebody ask the Mythbusters!!!!! Discovery dot com
  6. I believe she was refering to "kill us " Financialy. Just wait till she sees the price of a rig and student fees!
  7. Get those grades up girl and go pak my chute for sunday
  8. Ok Ok to make it clear. I said Id pay for the fjc and the first two jumps. She has been working hard, Ill give her that and I relented to a 3.5 gpa. Looks like she shouold make it by the end of the week. Heaven help me when she straps on my rig and tries to fly down of the hill we live on >>>(just kidding) And yes she thought she would drum up support if she posted on here lol.
  9. Ive already told her she had to pay for her own jumps with the exeption of the first. According to the dz she has to be eighteen to do a tandem but can do the IAD now. Ill pay for the ground school and first two jumps then she can earn more by packing chutes or getting a pt job. I have always beeen of the oppinion that something given or unearned has no value! (Robert Heinline) I have to set the standard high because her younger brothers want to go to. As for dragging her to the dz she gets pissed when I dont take her with me. I have just gotten past the point where everyone at the dz conciders me a newbie and not worth talking to. everyione looks out for each other there not to concerned for her saftey. Aside from the fact the DZ owner has kind of taken her under his wing so to speak.
  10. Ummm in high school I had a 3.9 and in college I had a 4.0 yeah that it..........
  11. I have read a couple of threads on here about kids wanting to jump. My Daughter 16 almopst 17 wants to jumnp. Soooo,,,,, instead of just saying no I made this agreement with her! her GPA must be 3.7 or higher before each jump. She has had to go to the DZ with me on my last ten jumps and I paid one of the riggers/packers to teach her how to pack chutes. She has studdied the sims with me and gone over the requirements with the TI. What do you guys think to much or should we do more?
  12. Still a student looking for my z out next jump. after my last jump I realized that the nervous butterflies in my stomach had not shown up this jump. dont know if they will be back for number 18 but I was curious how long it took most of you to lose the stomach flutters?
  13. Every war in history is about one of two things Money or power. The person or people in control want something from another person or person in control of another teritory! To get the populace involved a greater threat or greater good needs to be pushed into the forfront and propagandized to get people to fight fpr "the cause". Example The civil war... The southern gentlemen had the ability to play at politics while their incomes were assured through slave labor. The Northern politicians were losing power to the southern democratic gentlemen and their lifestyle of wealth and liesure. The Northern men started the propaganda of freeing the slaves. Now I am not saying this was not a good byproduct of the northen mens intentions but it was about political power. There was already a movement to free the slaves and it was a good theme to build on to regain thier lost influence. This was also a good forum for recruitment of northern soldiers and a motivating factor for the army. The southerners responded with "They are trying to take away your rights". Retoric. Men on each side flocked to the call. The american revolution. The mexican american war all of them have examples of the same thing. The only thing the common person can do is decide weather the byproduct being the realization of the propaganda purpose is worth going to war. Because someone is going to gain either money or power over the whole thing. It wont be the soldier fighting the war!!!
  14. I have had a couple of emails asking me about Military jumps. Well Her is the difference as far as my limited knowledge of both goes. Military jumps are designed to get a weapon (the soldier) to the ground as quickly as possible and able to continue on. A rec jump is designed for enjoyment and should last as long as posible. Equipment. The Military chute has a glide ratio of one foot of glide for every five feet of drop. were as these recreational chute have more glide than drop depending on the specific equipment. Exit altitude. On a military drop the drop exit is anywhere from 1000 down to three hundred feet. Nuff said. Incidentaly i dont think any rec jumpers also jump with 50-100 pounds of equipment. They might who knows. Number pf people on plane From a C141 each drop pass can have 100 to 200 exiting the plane in a few moments. I dont know about any rec jumps like that I can imaginee the confusion though. Any way those are some differences other former soldiers and Marines might have some other input
