  1. Just for some input here... I manage the support accounts, and I don't recall seeing any e-mails from Mike regarding this canopy. Not sure what address he sent it to? It's possible of course that this ad/images are getting used by various users that upload it - which would make it impossible to track it, and even if we disabled one user that listed it, another could return and do the same. I'll continue to do what I can this side. Can you please provide the username of the user that the scam belongs to, the name provided isn't tied to an account on dz.com, and neither does the PayPal address. Though I will add that I'm currently working with a developer here to find some new ways at fighting scam ads, that would result in them being removed from the listings far quicker than current, where we need to manually take action each time it's reported.
  2. Unfortunately not, while we are looking at a new method of contacting users that would not end up getting blocked by Yahoo, that's still a while away - so in the mean time there is no other way. We are aware of ways to solve this, but considering we're intending to make a vastly different change, it would be a lot of work to do, just to then get changed again shortly after. What may be easiest is just creating a new email address with Gmail, that you use solely for the classifieds form. The form e-mail address is independent from your actual account e-mail address, so you can still use your Yahoo account as the main e-mail account on your profile, while just entering a second account into the contact form. That's the easiest solution I can suggest :)
  3. Hey, Are you by any chance trying to use a Yahoo mail address in the contact form? Unfortunately Yahoo has restrictions in place that prevent us from using their service to send the mails the way we do in the classifieds, more information here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4640212
  4. If you're looking for really weird cult films, The Holy Mountain is up there.

  6. No problem :) The canopies have been added to the database.
  7. Have you noticed any trend of when exactly this takes place? Early morning, our cronjobs run on the server, which I think could be the root of that error. I know it's been brought up before and we struggled to find an immediate fix to it.
  8. Thanks, we are looking into this and have already spoken with our ad networks, but it may take a little time before we are able to remove it completely. Unfortunately it seems like a problem that many large websites have dealt with recently: http://techcrunch.com/2015/03/19/mobile-web-surfers-again-facing-unexpected-redirects-to-app-store-native-apps/ But rest assured, we're doing what we can to get it removed ASAP.
  9. As an update, we've already reached out to the networks and one has responded to us saying that they have blocked all Uber related ads from our site. So hopefully that was the network serving them. If anyone experiences these ads again, please just let me know (if you could take a screenshot it would also help, or even better yet, for those tech-savvy, if you're able to grab the code that was related to the ad using a browser development tool). Apologies again for the annoyance that is causes.
  10. Thanks for the heads up, will try and get them up today or tomorrow.
  11. Thanks for the heads up, one of our ad networks must have let this ad slip into their rotation, despite it being against our request. We'll be working immediately to get this removed. As always, screenshots will also always help. Does it only happen on mobile devices or has anyone gotten them on desktop too?
  12. Well we do appreciate users who don't install ad-block and allow us to keep the site up and running ;) Thanks for bringing this to our attention though, you can also PM me whenever something like this happens, for even quicker resolve. As stated in previous threads, this is on our ad network's shoulders and we've explicitly told them not to serve these ads. We'll be following up with all our ad networks now and work to resolve them as soon as possible.
  13. The user has since been disabled so no one else should be getting anything more from this scammer.
  14. We learned that we were still listed on one of the spam protection sites, we've filed an application for removal this morning and while it will likely take a few days, it should be resolved this week we hope.
  15. I think it's important to realize how many of these ads work. As with us, a lot of our ads come from advertising companies, as do most sites. And while we give the advertising companies a list of what we want and don't want, they sometimes serve stuff that we've explicitly asked not to be served. We have a strong policy against pop-up ads and audio ads, we realize it's annoying and we don't want it on our site. Unfortunately they sometimes serve these ads and our only course of action then is to wait for a user to report the ad to us, and then for us to contact the ad provider and complain and ask them to take it down. Something we do immediately after being alerted to one. How long it takes them to react to it, is unfortunately on them. But we generally push them hard to get it resolved ASAP. Obviously we prefer it when users don't use adblock, cause since we offer a free service on the site, ads are what allow us to keep the site going and if everyone were using adblock, there would definitely be no Dropzone.com
  16. There are pros and cons to such an implementation, and the cons are quite heavy as well. At this stage, I won't completely rule it out as a future possibility, but just share where our thinking is on the matter. The world is slowly moving away from anonymity in online forums, and forcing people to be held responsible in some capacity to what they say. And this has both positive and negative effects, the positive one is that it's harder to spread false information without being called out while the negative, is that some information may not come out as a result. Anonymity within the incidents forum would aid in the putting force of sensitive information that may not otherwise be leaked. But it will also allow users an avenue of trolling and or otherwise spreading false information with little consequence. A possible way to achieve the former without the latter, may be to make it so that the post will be made under the user's real username, but only be visible to administrators of the site, while appearing anonymous to regular site members. Allowing the prevention of being called out as a whistleblower, while at the same time allowing us to follow up on issues of trolling or false information. But this is the closest to anonymous I could see as possible, a completely anonymous platform would allow for too many avenues of abuse.
  17. Unfortunately not, Facebook's ad model is quite different to that found on other websites and the ability to 'mute' ads is not a feature that's easy for us to implement and something rarely found. We do follow a code of what we would publish as ads, and we have turned away more explicit ad campaigns in the past, however the subject of offensive is subjective. The easiest thing I can recommend, is in cases where this ad displays on a page that you're going to be busy on for long periods and may be bothered by - refreshing the page should serve a series of new ads.
  18. Well the problem was resolved for vast majority of people. We managed to get removed from the blacklists (due to user email spam), and that resolved the issue for many. If you're still having problems, it's possible that ComCast still has us on a blacklist. We're looking into it now and will see if that's the case and try get it removed.

  20. Due to an increase in spam mail from within our user accounts this week, we have decided to move forward the discontinuation of the e-mail service to August 10th, instead of August 31st. This means that all those still wanting to migrate their mail or mailing lists from their accounts are required to do so before this date. Please make the necessary changes to your external accounts that use your Dropzone.com e-mail address. Original Forum Announcement: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4733727

  23. I made another post in the announcements area now, but just wish to state it here too. Due to an increase in spam e-mails from our user accounts, we have moved forward the e-mail discontinuation to the 10th of August, instead of the 31st. Please ensure your mail migration is complete by that stage if you wish to keep your mail in your Dropzone.com e-mail accounts.
  24. While you could in theory likely continue using it (unless the social media platform does regular checks as to whether the email is active). But if you ever needed to reset your password, or wanted to receive information or alerts from that social network, it wouldn't work. We recommend changing the address in your social media networks to one different to your Dropzone.com login.
  25. Too many Amazon, far too many. We eventually lost count.
