  1. A couple of things: (1) I'll bet that billvon will play a major role in the development and perfecting of that battery; and (2) It's not necessarily a bad policy statement by the President. The problem is to me that the markets will respond to the expense. Bill has often said the same thing. Once oil becomes more expensive than solar, people will flock to solar and development will increase. The government keeps subsidizing "green" energy and making fossil fuels more costly but it STILL isn't enough. Why? Because when energy is made expensive it makes it worthwhile to sink investment into finding more of it. Google Julian Simon Paul Ehrlich bet. Paul Ehrlich said that we would run out of materials, food and resources because of increases in use and population. Julian Simon made a bet to choose any five resources he wanted and any date at least a year out and bet they'd all be cheaper. So Ehlich and his pal John Holdren picked five metals, made buys of $200 each, and Simon said that inflation-adjusted prices would be less. Ehrlich sent Simon a check for almost $600 in 1990 (the combined $1000 investment by Ehrlich was worth just over $400 - prices fell by over 50%). Note - John Holdren is the current Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Which can perhaps explain current white House policies.... what I thought was interesting in the article was that the entire state of conneticut would need to be turned into a wind farm to just supply New York with electricity. I think we need clean energy but we need to transfer to it much more slowly while the technology grows. All of the green energy sources are at this time not efficient enough to replace oil and gas and won't be for years to come. Using our own oil and gas will put our economy back on track and reduce our trade deficit.
  2. And again... I said somethign to the effect that I think that ALL voters need to be accomodated.. and the suppression of ANY votes by Americans.... is un-American. The fact that thousands of precints across this country have seen concerted efforts at voter suppression.. is CRIMINAL.. no matter who does it. The fact that one party does it in far greater numbers in todays world is rather telling.. but oh.. it does seem the fringe right here is good with any means to win... no matter the means... the outcome is all important... getting the ability to kiss some more rich ass for christ. you mean likr the black panthers in 2008? or do you mean the prison voting in minnesota for Al franken?
  3. Everything the right has put out has been bashed and stomped on, . National Review IS part of the right. Clearly some of the folks on the right recognize Cain's nonsense. Everyone is bashing it, even others in the recent debate, the problem they see with 999 is that it takes the money and control out of Washington. It's nonsense, poorly thought out nonsense. www.economist.com/blogs/democracyinamerica/2011/10/herman-cain Is that what you teach your students? just bash any Idea and close your mind to it? You are telling me there is not one good idea in his plan? not one little piece of the entire plan that could be good? The plan stands or falls as a whole, not in pieces. My students are good at math. They recognize nonsense without my assistance. Even Grover Norquist thinks it a bad plan. Why do yoiu think it is a bad plan?

  5. the glaciers have been melting since the last ice age, are you saying that we have changed that fact? If we are causing this to happen now, what caused it to happen before 1800?
  6. Hey Bilvon, what happened to your claim that we didn't have enough oil in the US for more than 30 years? Why are the green energy people lying about the amount of oil in the US?

  8. the Obama administration doesn't like to lock our money into the US, they feel it discriminates against foreign companies and people. I think all our money at this time should be locked into the US and US jobs,
  9. Everything the right has put out has been bashed and stomped on, how many good ideas have been shelved because of the political system. I am not saying that the 999 plan is good or bad ( i think it has some good points that need to be looked into) but the one we have now is definately not good and we need to look at all options.
  10. http://news.thomasnet.com/green_clean/2011/10/07/oil-boom-good-for-north-dakota-bad-for-green-tech/ I guess the enviromentalists are going to have a tough time pushing their green energies with the large oil finds in the west.
  11. The 80s diesels, esp the Mercedes ones, were filthy creatures. And until just a couple years ago, none were for sale in California due to emission requirements. Now we have the VWs and a few others - I keep hoping Subaru will bring their boxer diesel here. There definitely were hurdles to clear to bring them back. But I think a considerable chunk of the cost differential is due to demand, not the tech required. I had a 1982 300 D back in the day as well... funny thing.... SOOT came out... looked bad.. but never did it fail the DEQ for emissions. it didn't fail because they had no test for the soot.
  12. The VW TDI that gets 50 +MPG? I don't know... since most of it is bio diesel.. you tell me Another FAIL from another fringe rightie.. OH MY OMG, to bad that you know so little about this. We could have 50-60 mpg on diesels right now if it wasn't for the greenies out there. the diesel polutants in the form of nox (causing smog) is the the reason why we don't have the fuel mileage right now. the only way to rid nox and get 50-60 mpg is to put $10,000 exhaust systems on those cars. many diesel are going to these exhaust systems but it is making them unaffordable. DUUUUUUD I have been driving VW diesels since I was in college.... my old early 80's VW Bunny Diesel.... 45 to 50 MPG even back then in the mid eighties. U should learn something about them... since they have been right there under your nose... for 30+ years... oh.. and no they do not need special exhausts to pass emissions so PUHLEEEEZE don't try to trot that lame horse out. try again, I didn't say that they didn't get 40-50 mpg, I said thay don't in this country because of emission regulations and yes the new ones do have special exhaust so they can tune them to get the better gas mileage and still pass emissions. Older diesels did not have to pass emissions. try talking about things you actually know, your ignorance in this area makes you look bad.
  13. Actually, we do; gravity. no gravity is not a source of energy unless it takes no energy to raise it.
  14. the 2010 ford diesel truck particulate filter is listed at 1512.67 with 1.3 hours labor, the converter is 1115.39 and 2 hours labor to replace those 2 parts installed is 2937.00 plus tax and that is only 2 parts of the exhaust. keep spreading poor information to make the green life look so good to someone that bought this truck used and now needs to repair the exhaust to pass emissions or not drive the truck and loose his job. edited to add, I forgot about the $898.87 sugested list muffler for that ford.
  15. check out the new ford and dodge diesel trucks and mercedes cars, then get back to me. as far as the injector on the GM V6 engine, what you talk about was an isolated engine car combination, this is on every gm v6 gdi in every car.
  16. sorry but the exhaust systems ARE right now costing that much. the new gdi turbo units are much more expensive than stanard cars and the diesels are the most expensive. This is not saying it "will cost" alot but is actually right now costing alot. the new chevy GDI engine is 10 hours labor to replace 1 injector. try telling a custome it will cost $1000 to replace an injector, this again is not speculation but fact as the car is right now.
  17. Tell that to Rick Perry. An estimated 40% of his touted "new jobs" went to illegals. So, you're saying that the States should be able to enforce immigration laws if Fed.gov won't? Nope, just saying that touting your job creation skills when 40% of the jobs went to illegals is lame, like your strawman. Maybe if Obama had actually protected the border there would not be illegals to take the jobs.
  18. the problem is that the exhaust systems are actually $5000 to $10000 and not affordable for someone to repair.
  19. well you need to pick what is important smog or good fuel mileage. you cannot ave both and afford it. everyday I see people that cannot pass the emission test because they cannot afford the repairs to the cars. The gas powered cars cost hundreds and sometimes thousands to repair, how can you afford 5000 to 10000 in repairs on the new diesels?
  20. Okay, I'm wrong about taxes (with the exception of extending the Bush tax cuts because that's not change) ... anything else? Still doesn't amount to much change. no you are correct, the cut was in SS not in fed income tax. once again the idiots in washington messed up. Why would they reduce the income on a program that is already in trouble? drilling a bigger hole in the boat won't keep it afloat longer.

  22. That's nice that you have never had to be unemployed for more than 3 weeks...do you want a cookie? Here's the problem to your statement of not wanting to take certain 'prideless' jobs- even educated, experienced people aren't even getting those jobs because they do not have a background for that specific job. I just graduated with my Master's degree in biology, and am in a similar niche as the OP. My experience is solely scientific research. I've been unemployed for four months even though I've probably applied to, I don't know, every single job opening in my area that aligns with my expertise. On top of that, I just moved to a new state where I have very few contacts. I've also applied to secretarial, clerical, government and administrative positions (read: minimum wage jobs), but get the same response- I don't have the secretarial, clerical, administrative experience to even be competitive. So, even though one is willing to take a job that underemploys them, many times they won't even be considered. Food for thought. sorry but I don't feel sorry for someone that limits their opertunities. cut grass, wait tables, learn to pack at the dz. there are jobs, maybe ones you don't like but there are jobs. I never asked for your pity, and I don't want it-I'm just stating the fact that it's easy for someone like you that has a job and armchair quarterbacks by saying it's the unemployed peoples' fault that they don't have jobs. And LIMITING my opportunities?? I, like many others, am going back to school in something completely different so I have a better chance at having a career. armchair quarterback? you don't think I haven't been out of work before? like when carter and reagan were president? it took me 1 week with no experience to find a job in 1980, 1982, & 1983. jobs are out there just take one. Only when you get picky do you spend a long time on the unemployment line. I have a friend in AZ that has been displaced by illegals and by outsourcing to india but he has found a 3rd job all in the last 4 years and AZ has about a 14% unemployment rate.
  23. and I thought the rep's were the war mongers. at least Bush had congressional approval. Obam has continued the 2 wars from Bush and had a couple little ones of his own.
  24. If a little regulation is good, then more is better. and if more is better, then extremely more is better - there are agencies that justify their existence this way then if you back off just a little bit - the world will end and grampa will literally dissolve just by standing in open air without his full body condom. do you want that?!! HUH??!! do you hate grampa THAT MUCH??? do you love corporate profits and hate grampa that much????!!! I can't even look at you right now you might want to love corporate profits a little more because without them your job could be the next one that goes overseas or the one that gets tossed because nobody can afford to pay for the things that keep you employed. 9% unemployment for about 3 yearts can easily turn into 15% for many years if Obama and the epa are not stopped.
