  1. First tip is to not use your butt to slow you down when you come hauling in. Oh no.... no more pies. 3 different times in the same night for a total of 15ish pies is PLENTY for me! Yup for sure will be there friday. It will be later though. Josh Q: Why would someone ever want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? A: Why Not?
  2. Thanks guys for the input. I have done a few more FF jumps and can now pretty much hold a sit the whole time. It will take me a while to get into it sometimes but once i get it I am able to hold it ok. Still working on it! :) Josh "Sweets" Q: Why would someone ever want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? A: Why Not?
  3. FINALLY I have passed my 100 jump mark. I started jumping in 07 and didn't do many (only 41 jumps in a year and a half). So far this year since April ive done 65 jumps bringing my total to 106. I LOVE IT and can't wait to learn new things! Just thought i would let you guys know. Josh "Sweets" Q: Why would someone ever want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? A: Why Not?
  4. Well everyone this is me trying to sit-fly. This is my third attempt at it and as you can see in the video... i still suck. I was laughing my head off though during the jump every time i flipped over and lost it. Hope you all enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKclOeMas6U Josh Q: Why would someone ever want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? A: Why Not?

  12. Today was a beautiful/VERY HOT day in Ritzville WA. BUT despite all that my dad and I both got our "A" licenses. We both started jumping at the same time May of last year and today we both finished up our "A" card requirements and did our final checkout dive. It's an awesome feeling! I can't wait to go start jumping with others now and also to continue to learn about this awesome sport. Thanks to everyone out at West Plains Skydiving for putting up with us. LOL Josh Q: Why would someone ever want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? A: Why Not?
  13. Hey everyone, I am still new to the skydiving sport (20 jumps) but I am wanting to start to get my own gear. I have already bought the VISO digital alt. and love it. Now I am wanting to get my own helmet and goggles. My question is should I get a full face helmet or an open face helmet with goggles. I am wanting to do both RW and freeflying. I know the most people use the full face for RW work and the open face for freeflying. The reason I am not wanting to wait is because the DZ I am jumping at charges rent on EVERYTHING! Including helmet and goggles ($5 each). I know it's not much but it is sort of getting expensive. Thanks for the help! Josh Q: Why would someone ever want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? 14. Nice, I liked the dude who was trying to run in the air. LOL and the low flying heli ride would be sweet to! Josh Q: Why would someone ever want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? A: Why Not?
  15. Thanks. Yeah no hard feelings. Like I said, it works for me and it might not work for others. Everyone will find things that will and will not work for them. Josh Q: Why would someone ever want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? A: Why Not?
  16. At 20 jumps i hardly think that you are experienced enough to say what YOU do with any authority. When you raise your hand from a flare you run the risk of surging your canopy, this means you are not underneth it anymore. That's a BAD thing. Gato is right, unles you timed you flare soo poorly, that you have a lot of height to allow you canopy to go back to full drive. DONT raise your hands up, I was not saying that what I do is right and what he said is wrong. I am saying that from my own experience if I flare to high up by a little I will bring my hands up a bit (NOT ALL THE WAY) maybe just to my chest and it will slowly (not surging) start to go down a little bit again with out surging into the ground. My instructor also taught me that. I did it once where I was about 15-20 feet up and flared (3rd jump) and I let the toggles all the way back up and it surged into the ground. My instructor told me if that happens again (flaring to high) to let up on the toggles a bit to gain some speed again but only bring them to about your chest level. Like I said. I am not saying I am right and he is wrong. I know my place since I am still a beginner but I am just giving my 2 cents because it works for me. Thats all. josh Q: Why would someone ever want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? A: Why Not?
  17. Hmm... I fly a a PD210 also and I have had a few flares that were to early so I raised the toggles up and then pulled them back down again and have never had a problem. Josh Q: Why would someone ever want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? A: Why Not?
  18. HAHA, Thats great. No I didn't do that. But I really did just want to jump out of the plane!!!! I kept thinking if I can saely jump from the emergency doors and stuff. LOL Josh Q: Why would someone ever want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? A: Why Not?
  19. If you do end up flaring to high make sure you don't let up all the way on your toggles. That is bad. I did that once and will never do that again! The parachute dove straight into the ground. If you do end up flaring to high just bring them up a little and hold it there until you are at the right hight and then pull on them again. As for depth perception, how tall are you? I am 6' 4" ish so I just think when I am about twice my hight is when I start my flare. So far I have not fallen since my 3rd jump (so I have had 17 stand up landings in a row now). Try that out and talk to you instructor about it first and see how it works or what he thinks about it. Josh Q: Why would someone ever want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? A: Why Not?
  20. ... since i started jumping and let me tell you I DO NOT LIKE LANDING WITH THE PLANE ANYMORE!!!! LOL I kept sitting there in the plane just waiting to hear the word "DOOR" and then seeing people jump out but it never happened. LOL The guy sitting next to me was nervous when we started to land so to strike a conversation I told him I had to get used to landing again to with the plane. He looked at me with a really weird look (Which was expected) and I said yeah, I am used to jumping from the plane at 13K feet and landing on my own. He was surprised and was like, "you really do that?" IDK I am pretty sure I am addicted! LOL Just thought I would share that. Josh Q: Why would someone ever want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? A: Why Not?
  21. I hit 129mph on my last jump. I used to fall at 102Mph though when I was first starting my AFF training! My instructors didn't like it that much as you can imagine. Josh Q: Why would someone ever want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? A: Why Not?
  22. My home home DZ (In Spokane WA), Westplanes Skydiving, has a good mix of all 3 as well. There are always students, always tandems, and always fun jumpers. I love jumping out there! It's so much fun and the people are all awesome! The fun jumpers are always there to talk to about stuff and different disciplines. I can't wait to go jump there again with them all Sept. 1st!!! On place that I am jumping right now is Skydive Santa Barbara. They are mostly focused on tandems. It is sort of annoying to me because they don't focus on students (which I am) that much. There is a lot of waiting. But I might just be spoiled from WestPlains. Non the less I am still able to jump so I am happy. Josh Q: Why would someone ever want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? A: Why Not?
  23. I know exactly what you feel like. I got stuck on the AFF 3 or 4 (can't remember right now) and it took me 3 3 tries and I got it on my 4th and haven't failed one yet. It didn't say what you were having trouble with but for me it was leg position. I always had them to close to my butt and I was always back sliding. SO what I did to correct that was that I went on a Relaxing dive. I told my instructor that all I wanted to do was jump and freefall. I didn't want to do turns or tracking or anything. Just fall and practice my fall-rate. I wanted to see what it felt like to fall the right way through the WHOLE jump. (Before I could get the right position but as soon as I started a maneuver I would loose it.) After that jump I banged out my last student/AFF jumps without a problem. I will bo doing my first solos this weekend. WOOOHOOO Blue Skies Josh Q: Why would someone ever want to jump from a perfectly good airplane? A: Why Not?
