Thanks for the advice guys. I do plan on getting the training I need. I grew up watching my dad (Hale Castleman D1070) teach a two day course for a first jump (static line). I remember all the work that went in. We had the hanging harness, the platform for plfs, the Cesna mockup for exits, ect. I'm NOT taking this lightly. Don't want to break myself. "That gear looks like it's in GREAT shape!" It is. My dad stopped jumping this gear in the late 70's/early 80's. Before he stopped for good, he used to jump every weekend at West Point in Virginia. He was the instructor at the school there and safety officer (S & TA) for the club. It got aired out one last time at the 40th anniversary home coming back in July of '02. He broke his foot on a downwind shot at the peas. Not too shabby for a 70 year old skydiver! When the ONLY people getting on the plane besides the pilot are from out of town. Z-Hills Monday (St. Patty's Day), gusts to 25, tandems grounded, not a single local or staff went up after the first few loads. There were 19, I think. I waited all day. Just got a new rig. Ready to buy beer and everything. ALL the landings looked sketchy. A girl on a late afternoon load hit a downdraft or something and broke her leg. That's when I gave up and bought beer.
