  1. Well played marko, glad your alive. I'm so getting a skyhook, that was funking awesome. Did you shit yourself a little??? Stay safe and do what your DZ and home instructors think is best for you. Magic guy, northwest flyer amongst others, my god.. you guys are sounding like you want people to die... is it so you can say "I told you so"??? I don't understand your attitude, I frankly don't care for it either, read what you have written and THINK! Nasty nasty stuff, If you have nothing constructive, or funny to say maybe keep it to yourselves
  2. My 2 cents... If I knew him or her, for me it would mean time to stop jumping. See if his partner, kids, family needed comforting or surport, maybe go and notify his loved ones, if no one wanted to take the job of doing so. If i did not know them, i would make sure he was off the field first and away to the morgue or hospital, jumping whilst he was having cpr is distasful to say the least. (If i was at a DZ and the lifts kept on going, and people knew what had happened and were landing by his shattered body. I would not jump there again) People don't have enough time for each other as it is, 2 hours out of there day for a dead fellow jumper is not a lot to ask. 2 weeks out of your life for a dead friend is a drop in the ocean. The planes will fly another day!
  3. When I look at the fatality data for the past decade (which I HAVE) I see a large number of experienced skydivers dying under perfectly good canopies too. So maybe your "Bounce Bingo" syndicate should apply to everyone and not just the inexperienced. PS 1.4333 is rather too many significant figures for the data as supplied. yeah why the hell not, Kallend, i agree with what you say on this subject, and in other threads on wingloading. I for one have also looked at the death data, and it suggests that we are all at risk regardless of experiance or canopy size. You can make your chances better. but sods law can bite you on the ass
  4. This is getting boaring now...... We need to change the Record.. let people do what they want to do, if you think they'll hurt themselfes get involved in the bounce bingo syndicate... or do something about the regulations and get them changed. harping on about it in these forums (theres been at least 3 simular things like this since jan) won't do anything apart from show that everyone has a different idea, about whats right or wrong with regards to canopy choice
  5. I don't know if anyone is intrested but had to buy a VOD convertor, to work on it on adobe pro, also mp3's or mp4's are not compatible wit hpro which is a pain.
  6. It is a vob I'll give it a go thanks for your help
  7. i am trying to edit a video which was done for me, they left it very raw so if and when i wanted to add to it it could be done. I have adobe pro, but it will not recognise the file type. the file has a title page so has been finalised as such, is there no way to get this off the dvd and reedit the video?? if there is a way, what program should i use etc etc.. thanks
  8. The other guy was my coach, yes to cypress.. i guess we were both lucky. With regards to my actions, i was getting coaching to improve my skills, ( i realise you did not know i was having a coaching jump, but thought i'd mention it b4 getting flamed) These were jump numbers 56 and onwards. The guy who was paralysed in that thread was also coaching(from the threads i read), Its a very scary thought for people who are willing to coach and how they could end up, i don't really know what to say on the subject, better seperation?? but at 200mph things happen v quick, and reactions sometimes are not quick enough to avoid hits. there were other things during my training jumps that i saw as well which had danger written all over them>. But that i have learned from My clothing was riding up my body, ( so i bought myself a ff suit) My tracking exits were a little wobbly. (Practiced for next 10 jumps) my Alti awerness became shocking(bought a ditter) My knee flying rules (i was Meant to be sit flying though) I need to lose my tummy (puked my food up) I'll post the vid here, there are a lot of bad things happening, i guess i got lucky let the flaming begin
  9. i'm excited about it to My attitude is pretty good mister, I have always listened to people with more experiance than me, as i don't want to die or end up in a chair, being spoon fed. I have also posted on here looking for more advice, if i still have questions, but the advice i get from here is from faceless wonders, who may have 2500 jumps, or may not, its hard to tell who is bullshiting and who is telling the truth. they may have 6000 jumps but last jumped on a round in 89, you just never know. You take some advice you leave the rest. So my attitude may not quite be to your standed, you may think of me as reckless, or a statistic waiting to happen, or that you bought my #98 in bounce bingo. But, and this is a praise be to god or allah or who ever, i get to live or die way, on my terms, and with a big smile on my face. I can pretty much guarenttee that it'll be on a motorbike, but hey #98 may be your lucky number!!
  10. i think he's talking great british pounds my dear boy, so around $3000 of your money
  11. And what would those be? Maybe i should have put it differently, how many people with low jump numbers sub 100 have you seen and thought, jeez that was a close call, he really had to dig that out. or He thought he could make the advanced landing area and hit the building or trees. Just my obsevations, but i seen more high jump number guys and girls come nearer to death than sub 100's under canopy.
  12. Do you have data to support that claim? Just go through the fatality page, I realise that people "may" just be getting broken instead of killed, however.,,, the deaths are there in larger than life detail, I'll not list peoples deaths. Just have a read Jumpers name Jumpers canopy Died in low turn - Downwinder - spinning main etc etc Jump no; 300 What it does not have a lot of is, Cat A or b jumper died whilst loading a canopy up with a 1.3 wl
  13. JM's being told you have to upsize, there are a lot of old schoolers out there who have thousands of jumps, but have never attended a canopy course, who have really bad habits, never get critizised because they are old school and can't possibly do anything wrong!! I reallly think is a good idea but is only practicle to a point, everyone needs to be on board... 1 jump to 10 000 jumps get everyone singing from the same hymm sheet. the high risk group of people have between 300 - 500 jumps, they need to be targeted first as they are the ones dying at present.
  14. Thats a good idea, but will it ever happen. i really wish it would in some ways In others I have always been somewhat irresponsible so not really my way of thinking. then you also have the problem when people like magic guy who are already swooping getting told sorry you don't have the skills, you gotta upsize. how would they react.. badly or would they take the advice given to them?? intresting Now that would be funny. how ironic!! some people new to the sport given crossbraced and TMs with thousands of jumps given mantas. If i were god i would make things like that happen, You can vote for me online, i´d be no worse than clinton or Ommba
  15. He's a bit of a legend, b4 and after as i understand, he has been posting his life as he settles into his new chair, the challanges he faces and the like? I saw the vid a year ago or so and have been following his youtube videos, the guys got balls for sure. I had a hit simular to this in deland in febuary, i'll post it if i can find it. i guess you get lucky sometimes
  16. whats stealing your girlfriend got to do with anything??
  17. Quote Actually, it was the master rigger that said "I think you should wait a while to jump that canopy and keep jumping the 150." Still, you were grounded. i.e not allowed to jump with that rig, you probally thought you were being "cool" What i did was get the advice of people about my first rig, so i took the advice given, bought a 170 packed it with a 190, and one day maybe will downsize > You telling others to be careul and listen to your advice when you did what "you think" everyone your complaining about does. You went out on your own and bought / borrowed a rig which you did not have the skills to fly safely. now to me that sounds like a pretty dumb choice By your discription it sounds like you were risking it with the 150 let alone the 135. It sounds like they thought, "man this guy is a risk" what is he thinking!! better ground him Have fun flying your 190 over there in England. 190s aren't as cool as 170s, though. You should downsize. ?????????????????????????????????????????? maybe next year ??!"£!£$%^ Unless your encouraging me cause you have jump 98 in my bounce bingo
  18. There are many creative ways to bring this cost of entry down!! Start here for example. Many complete rigs to be had, or you can piece together what you need. When the time comes and you want to buy your first container you can again be creative here. You can buy a container sized for a 170 for example and put from a 150 up to a 190 in it usually. (Check with the manufacturer first.) You may have to change D bags, but you can get much use out of that new container before you have to get a new smaller one. By the time you need one you'll have a year or two or three or more in the sport and you can resell that container to put toward your new one... In other words if cost is an issue you can find ways to be creative and over come it. WL my first rig would have been a 260 or around that kind of size. Which after my consoles i found it to be to big to practice things like rear riser landings, riser turns, harness turns etc. It also had the added bonus of going backwards with winds over 14 mph, which again ltd my jumping and currency. What would be better? not jumping for 4 months of the year due to winds or jumping every week and staying current? Personally i prefer the latter! but thats my take and again i'm on the size rig that my DZ recommended.( aff coaches, packer, Dzo, and Canopy instuctor)
  19. 1.The same reason you went to you dz with a 135, and got grounded. 2.Fly a manta and let me know why i made the choice to fly a safire 190 instead. The other reason is cost, i, like many others don't have the money to buy a new rig every other year, so i have to make a choice which allows me to progress with my canopy, and will allow me to downsize from my 190 to a 170 then to a 150, if i so chose. Out of the two of us magic guy. only You have ever been grounded, at that was at you home DZ. You made a choice to take a small rig that was obviously to small for your skill level, and your DZO grounded you with the rig. Try asking yourself, why that day you thought you had mad skillz, and were capable of flying a canopy with a 1.1 wing loading, And you might awnser you own question regarding other peoples choices.
  20. I was thinking about your post and there are a lot of valid points here. It was intresting to read the point on relative size to canopy and the obsession with WL, and stuff to the like. I have been doing a little research into the deaths last year caused by low turns and inexperianced canopy flyers. The vast majority ( and when i say vast i'm talking 95%, at least) of deaths were people with 300 - 600 jumps to there names, on a variety of rigs (but genraly sub 150) It seems that once you get your C licence that people stop worrying about your rig selection, which is strange as these people seem to be dying more than anyone else. When i have travelled to other DZ's i always get questioned about my experiance and get a proper debrief about landing areas and hazzards, as i am low jump numbers with high wing loading. whilst my other friends get in to the plane and just jump. who are high jump numberd very high wing loading.?!? It seems the problem is that we expect people with 300 or more jumps to know what there doing, but it seems they are the ones making bad choices. What do we as a community want from this sport, self regualtion seems to work to a point. but like with anything anyone can get a licence, just show your best for 1 minute and whoop heres your c licence or your fs2. In motorcycling anyone can buy a 1000 cc fireblade with only 1 days driving experiance, they are high risk, unless they take it easy and dont make the wrong choices. a lot of ifs and buts!? Skydiving is the same, you see somone with all the right gear do you question there experiance or do you think, he's been around for a few years he'll be ok. He probally will be ok, unless he has to make a choice of turning low or landing a down winder. Dead or bruised!! This sport for some is about being free and being allowed to do what ever they please, for others it is about a community of people who care about each other and take an intrest in there choices. For the newer guys, well we're just seeing where we can fit in. and what angle we want to take from it. If the regulations step up maybe will leave and take up base, or maybe will just practice our skills untill we are good enough to jump at any time with any rig. If you want to see less deaths everyone has to be on board and make a call. At 200 jumps to continue you need to take a jump course. Or to be above a 1.5 wing loading you need to take a pass or fail exam. or you stick with what you've got. But as somone rightly said, if one Dz won't take my money on my 1.6 wingloading another 4 will take the pepsi challange.
  21. Sounds like fun I knew it was about looking cool.. No offence Mr magic, but you get hyped up about peoples wing loading but you may not know the whole story. As previously mentioned, in the uk at my home DZ your canopy size gets chosen for you pretty much during your training and through your progression, they see your capabillitys and acess you on your debrief, i still have chats with my aff instructor a year in to the sport asking me about my landings and what would i have done if a or b had happened. I still buy the beer in if i overshoot a landing area and i make sure that during another one of my rounds of beer i chat with the people who know there buisness, and learn somthing new. Not so long ago everyone still had rounds as reserves, before that they had rounds as mains. Did people flame the guys cutting holes in them so they could steer them?? (no internet so probally not) But you get the point. Progression of the sport is on the side of the people getting into it, when you qualified did you have a skyhook on your rig i think not, zero p, cypress all are aids to help us stay in one peice, the new guys get to learn from other peoples mistakes and deaths (sadly) But ranting about it on here won't help anything, Be more proactive and maybe the next time you jump and you see a 100 jump wonder steaming in, have a quiet word in his ear, give him some advice, offer to jump with him and show him a thing or 2. I think that would be more useful... BTW Maybe your cci just thought you were really shit under canopy, which is why he grounded you and your 150?? He probally knew better than us and you!!
  22. But we can't all pack badly , i'm talking about the people who don't shoe there canopy in on every jump
  23. My parents went crazy at me..... So i shot them Now that there dead they don't seem to mind at all!
  24. I was just speaking to a buddy (non skydiver) about the small risks involved in the sport, mainly covering malfunctions and drills. He asked me why the only practice of cutaways are when you are having a real problem, and surley that really is not the best time to make sure your EP's were sound. I explained to him that during training be it raps or aff people do go though the procedure of cutting away from mock up harnesses or repeat the procedure time and time again with a training vest. again he though that it was strange that there were no more technical procedures, i'e a rig with 3 parachutes, that you can take up and practice your drills whilst up high, and experiance a subterminal opening / And a reserve drill in a real life scenario. So the question is why not, or is there a training program that does, or is it even needed. The, is it needed makes me think of the only time i have pulled a reserve handle was when i was getting a reserve repack, i did not pull the handle down enough and cut only half my rig away. Now that would have scared me had it happened up there under a spinning main. maybe unrealistic but still makes you think!! Is more training needed to prepare you for the worst case scenario??
  25. thanks.... Should have thought of that myself....
