  10. After seeing an orginizer at one of our local boogys doing this I have been flying like that a bit. I think it does 2 things. Helps present your upper back to the wind, and gets you flying your legs better. This will lead to easier movement of your arms for docks. www.okanaganskydive.com
  11. WOOOHOOO!!! We have a group of 4(and a handfull of maybes) coming down from British Columbia. See everyone down there!!!! www.okanaganskydive.com
  12. I agree with rehmwa. This guy(or some guy reading this) could be at some small DZ with out anyone who really knows how to swoop properly. For me, traveling to Florida for a canopy course just is not possible. His jump #s show that he is nowhere near experianced enough to be swooping, that is for sure. How about rather then attacking him, give him some good exercises to work on up high. He was asking to be pointed in the right direction to learn this safely. Not how to do 270 www.okanaganskydive.com
  13. yes, I agree. Of course patterns and accuracy should come first. As should all other aspects of canopy flight. Our CSPA manuals have almost the exact same info. After these issues are delt with I would like to see some guide lines for learning to swoop in the safest way. a place to start. I was thinking drills for dble risers, then drills for dbl fr to flare up high? Learn the altitude lost while diving with the particular canopy. Learn what it feel like to recover from the dive. After working at this for some time(how long I dont know) start working on a dbl fr riser landing recovering way to high and very slowly easing down over many jumps. after mastering this. maybe some small carves? Same thing, learned up high over many jumps then eased in down low Do you guys think I am on the right track with this. It is only a brainstorm at this point. Bret www.okanaganskydive.com
  14. The info in the SIM was great, but still not what I'm looking for. I'm looking for exercises up high that eventually lead to dbl fr riser landings and small carves. Also ideas on how to progress people. maybe 10 consistant landings befor moving on to another level, with a low or out of control landing moving the person back a level. I understand that everyone is going to progress at a different speed. I think their should be some guidelines. I've seen guys swooping really well at the 500 jump level, and others with over 1000 who are digging themselves out of the corner on every landing I would rather see my friends who are interested in learning to swoop become the former, and enjoy the continued use of their legs for many years to come. www.okanaganskydive.com
  15. For the record I live in Canada and have never seen the USPA's SIM. www.okanaganskydive.com
  16. Does Scott Miller have any books or Videos? I have been asked by my DZ to put together a progression for canopy piloting. I am putting this together with alot of help from a handfull of very good canopy pilots. Maybe I will post it on here when I am done for you guys to attack. This thread is very typical of what I am seeing around every DZ in my area. A bunch of jumpers under the 500 jump area(many under 300), me included. Learning to swoop without any real training program. It would be great to see someone come up with some sort of skills grid starting with simple canopy flight up high and progressing to dbl front landings and small carves. Does anything like this exist? www.okanaganskydive.com
  17. Does anyone out there know of a good forum or website to help me learn the basics of Adobe Premier Pro? www.okanaganskydive.com

    HD help

HD help/ The story of my life. or at least the last year and a half. Relaxing cant be stressed enough. I think this should be a major focus of every jump. I did about 10 coached jumps trying to learn HD with no results. I just wasn't in the right mind set. Thinking about body position too much rather then just feeling the air and being aware of where i am in the sky. 1. I agree that HD solos have the potential of being very dangerous, but it was the only way for me to learn. I must of done 75 jumps trying to transision into HD and just over rotating. It wasn't until I started to do exits over my back di i "feel it" The safest way I found to do this was to exit last, give the previous group lots of room(maybe 15 seconds) Then pull a bit high if necessary to make it home. For the longest time the only way I could get into Hd was this exit, and crazy as it seems, from my belly. After i was able to hold it for a whole jump the transisions just came. It was after this that coaching started to pay off more. 2. I took me close to 100 jumps just to hold it for a whole jump. Probably take 1000 to learn to control it. 3. On solos try really hard to feel where the air is hitting your body and with how much force. Try to transfer the wind as smoothly as possible from your front to your back. Pay attension to what this does to the horizon. Also try doing solos with an empty water botle in both hands. This will help you learn to fly it with your legs RELAX! RELAX! RELAX! RELAX! RELAX! RELAX! I got alot of good advice when i asked for it on here. Look back in this forum a bit. www.okanaganskydive.com
  19. I believe you can do it for a good price near Sao Paulo Brazil. http://www.paraquedismoboituva.com.br/ The web site is in Portugese, but I am sure there would be some people who speak english there. I jumped in Rio de Janeiro. It was beautiful, but very expensive. www.okanaganskydive.com
  20. It is fall and the sandbar is back!!!! Come swoop the mighty Thompson river and land on a huge sandbar!!! The water is calm and very shallow, and the sand is soft and clean. We will have water swoop lanes set up and canopy coaches on hand. Come do cheap ($16) hop and pops with us. Sept. 29th & 30th www.okanaganskydive.com
  21. I was told that the Ixtapa DZ probably will not be opening this year. Pourto Escondito Has a boogy. Not sure when? www.okanaganskydive.com
  22. WOW!!! Very impressive. Congrats to everyone involved!!! www.okanaganskydive.com
  23. Oh man, I wish I could be there!!! Thanxs for all the jumps at Eden North. Good times. See ya next year. Bret www.okanaganskydive.com
  24. Ididnt understand the previous question either? I also think there is no replacment for a great coach. I have seen some of my friends from Vancouver progress much faster because they jump and hang with awsome freeflyers everyday. Consistently getting great advice. It definatly helps. But for some people, like me this thread and others like it have been a huge help. Hearing what other people have struggled with and how they worked out the problem has helped me get through some issues. Not as much as coaching, but it has helped. I'd also like to call out all the pro coaches out there. The freefly orginizers, the guys out there charging their slot plus? Havn't seen any of you 10,000 jump freeflyers given up alittle of their magic? I'd like more expierianced freelyers to help with ideas for jump plans, drills, ground training, exits, things they wished they learned first? or differantly? Common bad habits. anything else? www.okanaganskydive.com
  25. Yahooo!!! Got my first dock last night!!! Kind of a slap but I'm counting it. www.okanaganskydive.com
