  7. I started doing charactures of skydivers on DZonline.info. You can find them on the "SKETCHES" link on the DZonline website. Send me your faces! steveOrino
  8. Old age made me switch to digital. Being 50, I have a problem reading fine print without reading glasses, including the anallog needle. With digital I can easily see the big numbers, especially at night when it is backlit. steveOrino
  9. Jay Stokes is da man! Ex SFer! steveOrino
  10. Welcome to the forums. Did you know Terry Goode at SDMB? He is now at Skydive Airtight. steveOrino
  11. First thing I bought when I was off student status was my own alimeter, then a helmet/goggles, then a protrack. Around 35 jumps I bought used gear from local skydivers. To this day the only stuff I have that is not used is my Flat Top Narrow helmet and my Digital Rebel. Why buy new? steveOrino
  12. Oh, I doubt it. #1 I don't know the stats for streamers, #2 I really don't care. I guess I just found it interesting that the info was so wrong. #3 If I were to spend time correcting everything that was wrong on the internet, I would not have the time to skydive, or draw DZ. steveOrino
  13. PLF! A recent AFF student (next to last AFF jump) did that (landed on butt instead of PLFing) and she crushed L-1 and split L-3 in two. PLF! steveOrino
  14. I found this interesting tidbit on wisegeek.com When a parachute fails to open, it is usually a "streamer." In most streamers, the lines are twisted, and the canopy is prevented from opening enough to fill with air. Skydivers usually try to open a streamer by shaking the lines. If this fails, they can rely on their emergency parachute also known as a "reserve chute". About one in a hundred primary parachute openings is a streamer.[emphasis mine] Who says you can't learn everything you need to know on the internet? steveOrino
  15. Unfortunately, I had the responsibilty of relaying the sad news to the "old timers" (2 are younger than me) at the DZ that Don had passed away. All three's response led me to believe he must have been something special as they were all deeply effected. When I found out he was also an ex SFer I too was saddened, even though I never had the privilege to meet the man. Blue skies Don ... and de opresso liber! steveOrino
  16. Welcome to the dark side! steveOrino
  17. Welcome! Enjoy yourself ... be safe! steveOrino
  18. Welcome to the forums! I hope you enjoy skydiving. steveOrino

  20. I will be working Friday ... shooting video at the DZ. steveOrino
  21. What is odd about it? I switched my screen name from StevePhelps to Steveorino. I do update the profile for Steve Phelps, although I don't use it anymore. Enjoy the strip. steveOrino
  22. I know I said Thanksgiving, but hey, better early than late. Enjoy DZ, the online comic book about skydiving. . steveOrino
  23. Yeah, like Dave said, you will bump it once ore twice, but you will quickly remember to duck. The problem I have with my FTN in a cessna, is I'm so close to tandems in thge plane, if I want to video their face while the helmet is on, I must look at their chest. steveOrino
