  2. How many countries and US administrations believed that Saddam had WMDs? (Hint: Bush's wasn't the only administration and the US wasn't the only country.) You just want Bush to take responsibility for the mistake right? You're not interested in finding the truth and fixing it, just pointing the finger at Bush. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  3. LOL, in my cubicle at work there is a former Navy officer, a former Marine officer, a former AirForce NCO, and me, a former Army officer. This kind of stuff goes on aaaaaalllllllllll day long. Ever wonder why things get done slowly in the Federal Government? "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  4. My wife and I dated for 2 1/2 years while I went to college in New York and she went to college in Atlanta. For the first year we dated other people also but we eventually started dating only each other. We both went out with our friends a lot and neither of us were very jealous so it worked out well. We've been married for 11 years now. Long distance relationships can work. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  5. Are you trying to say that all gun fanatics are gay? "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  6. The Longest Yard! I love that movie. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  7. That was an Army Battalion Commander not the Marines. He was relieved and Court Martialed. I'm not sure what the final outcome was though. He discharged a pistol "in the vicinity" of a captives head in order to determine the location of some enemy mines or IEDs. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  8. That's the first time I've ever heard that. I've read the book three times, loved it, and still loved the movie. It was a little different and left out the LZ Albany ambush and massacre but I still thought it was realistic both on the home front and on the battlefield. Why did you think it sucked? "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  9. There were a lot of other tactical issues with the movie that took away some realism and enjoyment for me. Everytime the movie flashed back to the LTC's battle in Iraq the tanks were about 2-3 meters apart during combat (way too close). Little things like that annoy me to the point that I can't enjoy the movie. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  10. I like Sam Adams but I bet I can homebrew a chocolate stout or porter that tastes just as good and costs a lot less.
  11. In the Army, when a commander was relieved from command and kept quiet it was usually for something like cowardice or incompetence. I don't know what this guy was relieved for though. Maybe they discovered he could read. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  12. I have the same problem with 'We Were Soldiers'. The first time I watched it was with my SWAT team while we were on standby for a large event. Not the crowd you want to cry in front of. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  13. I have to vote We Were Soldiers. I liked how it covered what a commander's wife and the soldier's wives go through during wartime. The fighting was also very realistic and accurate. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  14. Try this http://www.fas.org/irp/congress/2002_cr/hatch-fisa.html (2) The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 allows wiretapping of aliens and citizens in the US based on a finding of probable cause to believe that the target is a member of a foreign terrorist group or an agent of a foreign power. For US citizens and permanent resident aliens, there must also be probable cause to believe that the person is engaged in activities that "may" involve a criminal violation. Suspicion of illegal activity is not required in the case of aliens who are not permanent residents.*** From here: http://www.cdt.org/wiretap/wiretap_overview.html Now your comment about no probable cause required to wiretap US citizens comes from where? "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  15. If you want to search and validate it go ahead. I've been forced to learn it. You can either believe me or not. I'll sleep just fine either way. I never said it didn't take away some liberty. I just made the point that you didn't know what you were talking about when it comes to the Patriot Act. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  16. That is my point. You don't know what the Patriot Act changed but you still attack it as unnecessary. The Patriot Act basically took the rules for Espionage cases and applied them to terrorist cases. In espionage cases the subject had to be the agent of a foreign power, ie a spy or a US citizen that had been recruited by a foreign spy to work for the foreign power, in order to open a FISA case. On espionage cases the FBI and CIA were able to exchange information freely with no barriers because they weren't criminal cases. The normal things that would have occurred in an open court were moved to a FISA court. A FISA court basically follows the same rules as an open court except all of the judges, lawyers, etc have Top Secret security clearances, the court is held in a vault, and the judge handles things that would normally be handled by a jury. The Patriot act added international terrorism to the list of offenses that could be tried in the FISA court. To open a terrorism investigation in a FISA court the subject has to be the agent of a foreign power or forein group. IOW domestic terrorism cannot be investigated using a FISA court. The group has to be based overseas. Now the CIA and FBI can exchange information freely when it involves an international terrorism case. In the past, basically since Watergate, the FBI and CIA were not permitted to exchange information freely on criminal matters. It could be done but the laws made it cumbersome and extremely slow. The Patriot Act streamlined the process. That is the Patriot Act in a nutshell. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  17. Library records could be obtained with a Grand Jury Subpeona or a National Security Letter before the Patriot Act. The Patriot Act altered the types of cases that can be tried in a FISA court. Just for jollys, explain to me all of the changes that the Patriot Act brought about. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  18. The Patriot Act is the law that allows the FBI and the CIA to conduct this "coordination". Before the Patriot Act very little coordination could occur due to the separation of the intel side with the criminal side. Even within the FBI the criminal and intel sides had a hard time coordinating because of this separation. The Patriot Act seems to be a scape goat of the anti everything sect of America. You quote "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" while succumbing to the misinformation spewed by the ACLU and others whose main purpose recently is to make the public fearful of the Patriot Act. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  19. The writer of this article is fairly ignorant. Steroids weren't banned by Bush. They have been illegal for quite a while now except for medical purposes. He just insisted that professional sports start policing their ranks. Bush didn't do this. The US Constitution overrules state laws. It is in the Supremecy Clause. Check it out. What? If the Federal Government doesn't determine what is right or wrong, IOW what is law and what is against the law, then who will? Should we start letting every individual write his own set of laws. This statement completely baffles me. This guy will probably vote for Kerry, who voted 96% of the time with Ted Kennedy, while still bad mouthing Kennedy. If that would have been one of only a few of Clinton's problems we probably would have let it slide.
  20. Outstanding idea! I think the reason is that Shinseki was a tanker. He was a great officer but..........he was still a tanker. I served under him for 2 years and even briefed him on a mission once and I really liked the guy. I just don't think he understood the significance of the beret to the infantry guys. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  21. Dean is an idiot. The only respectable candidate the Dems have is Lieberman and they are obviously not going to nominate him. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  22. Clay, just got through flying with the helicopter pilot who put Shugart and Gordan out in Somalia. You'll never guess what agency he is with now. Does Hotel Romeo Tango ring a bell? "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  23. No, the difference is that I don't get on here and complain and cry about every thing the government does or fails to do. It's quite simple. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." Ben Franklin
  24. Please show me this in the Geneva Convention. I've had several military classes at USMA and 9 years in the Army and have never been taught this as a Geneva Convention Law. Not shooting .50 cals at individual troops is just a tactical policy to keep them focused on light armored vehicles and large groups. This isn't a Geneva Convention Law.
