Time to get back in the air

I met Chip at the Jumping Place with Packing Cathy in 2008. Chip loved skydiving and he loved his family. Chip would usually jump between St Mary's, Palatka, and Deland. He was a Vietnam Vet and will be greatly missed. Chip passed of a heart attack on Thursday May 19th in Jacksonville. You will be greatly missed Chip!! Obit Below...... “Chipper” Carl Parks, Jr., 64, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2016. He was born December 11, 1951 in Okmulgee, OK where he had lived all his life. Chipper attended Andrew Jackson High School class of 1968, was a Vietnam veteran and served in the U.S. Army and loved skydiving. He had previously attended Oceanway Assembly of God, was an avid believer in the right to bear arms and loved Harley Davidson motorcycles. Chipper was predeceased by his son, Shane Parks; father, William Parks, Sr.; brothers, Jimmy Parks, Bruce Parks, Johnny Parks and sister, Jody Hornaker. Survivors include his wife, Linda; step sons, Kevin Barrs and Alex Stepanov; God child, Diamond Smith; bestis girlfriend, Linda Smith; mother, Willa Parks; grandchildren, Preston Barrs, Ashley Barrs; great grandchild, Isabella Barrs; nephews, Beau Parks (Emily), John Parks, Billy Parks; numerous other family and friends. Memorial services with military honors will be held Tuesday, May 31 at 9am at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd 32218, with Pastor Ricky Crews officiating. Airshows are a way of recruiting our young people to be the future of our nation's defense. I'm sick that the military gets cut but food stamps and obama phones run wild with funding. I am dripping with disdain about people making an excuse for why they aren't successful in life. I feel horrible about the schools who have had crazy people use guns to go on a rampage but how many schools do we have in america multiplied by how many school days "incident free" over the past 13 years compared to the days that have had school shootings? Funny thing, the USPA agrees with you. For years now, the USPAs solution to improving canopy control was a recommendation that 'all jumpers take a canopy control course'. However, they have yet to develop one, or make it a requirement for all jumpers. So they want you to take one, they're in charge of educating and training jumpers in the US, but they don't have a program, require a program, or even have a preferred provider that they recommend you use on your own. Great job, USPA, real solid work. Well I think we need to start making more phone calls to the USPA. Many people I've spoken to have said they would like to see a canopy course as part of the licensing process. Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

Although strip searching itself and the cause for arrest are irrelevant, its my opinion that the ruling is garbage. I can see strip searching someone pulled from a heroin house full of needles. It's another to strip search a person coming home from work in their Volvo station wagon that was detained over an unpaid fine or because they couldn't show a valid drivers license. we already know that those scanners are not effective for searching for anything in this location. Which of course begs the question, why the fuck are we spending billions and pissing off so many people for something that obviously doesn't fix the problem? I was never a fan of them. Yes I noticed that some of these unfortunate fatalities took place outside of the U.S. I do like your proposal of wing loading stipulations and requirements for canopy control courses. I had the opportunity to take Brian's canopy control course and after finishing the class I took a wealth of information that was worth more than I paid for. I admire Germain's knowledge in the physics of canopy piloting and think that the skydiving community could benefit by these canopy control courses. I was looking at the fatality statistics here on DZ.com and noticed that 31% of the fatalities reported are related to landings. Taking into consideration that these statistics are "unofficial" as disclosed on this website, I think it's safe to say that almost 1/3 of our fellow skydivers who have been killed were in the process of landing. I then looked at the reported details of the landings and saw the common denominator as posted in the pictures below. "Hard Landing while making a low turn" or "Low turn/ hook turn". I am not implying that people shouldn't swoop. I believe that everyone has the right to skydive in their discipline of choice. I do however think that we need more education about safety during performance landings. This education might include the acceptance of an abort while performing under pressure to do well. This education might also include more understanding of the physics involved with landings. These are just my raw thoughts but I (like everyone else) would like to see our fatality numbers decrease and landings appear to be the #1 cause of death. Does anyone else find it funny that we made a SPORT out of an EMERGENCY PROCEDURE?!?!

Agreed! The Feds should just stick with protecting our boarders and delivering our mail. Got a great track record, don't they Exactly my point Maybe Uncle Sam should go back to the basics and get that working properly before taking on a project like unconstitutional legislation.
