  1. can someone pm me how to do the rubber band setup...i've seen it before, was told how to do it, but i forgot
  2. One thing i'd like to add is that last year the USN (i know this from talking to the Navy Captains i rode ship with) had a monthly average of 35 million to fix EVERY ship in the Navy. This year it's 4 million....as everyone knows a lot of the government shit is expensive, but do we really think that we can only spend 4 million a month to fix EVERY problem on EVERY navy ship??? Cutting the budget on military equipment IMHO is a bad idea. Especially when contries like china and NK are spending their money on not just fixing, but upgrading their equipment. Technology saves lives, broken technology....
  3. I still say nothing beats my Marine Corps dress blues...and the women love it too
  4. trust me, i've thought of this a LOT...especially since i'll be jumping a larger canopy for my first few (50ish or more...depending) jumps when i get back...which means i need to buy/borrow a larger main. as for the reserve, i've heard both unpack it and dont...it'll be locked in a closet in a temperature controlled environment, and i'm understanding what people are saying about the springs. I'm assuming for those that have said unpack it and put it in a cotton bag is to ensure no moisture gets in there somehow, and those that say dont unpack it are thinking that none would get in as well. I'll be talking to my rigger here shortly to see what he'd prefer, but thanks again for the input. Would you all suggest putting silica packets in the container where i'm storing it to ensure no moisture can accumulate? or would that just add to another possible contaminate getting in?? Thanks again for the replys!
  5. Thanks for the info. I'm buying some of the silica gel packs and will do what you all say. Thanks again for the replys!
  6. Well, it's my turn in the deployment cycle, and i had a question about storing my gear for a long time (i.e. at least 7 months). I have a Rebel XTI, PC 109 and a HC 5...just wondering if any of you have tips on keeping the gear in good working order when you are not going to be touching it for months to come...i.e taking the battery's out, putting them in plastic bags, etc. Any info will help, and it may take me a bit to answer any questions as i will be gone for the next 3 weeks, but will watch this thread through my e-mail. Thanks in advance! Semper Fi
  7. Well, it's finally my turn on the deployment cycle, and the workups have been a bitch to say the least...anyways, i will be gone from skydiving for about 9 months, and when looking at what i should do with my gear i came across a few threads on whether or not to unpack the reserve to release tension on the spring....being as i dont pack reserves, i was wondering if this is a good thing to do, or just leave it packed up and have a rigger re-pack it (as well as jump a larger main canopy for a couple months) is the better option. i'll be gone for the next 3 weeks for training, but i plan on putting this in my "watched" threads, so any response will be welcomed, even if i am unable to ask any more questions for awhile. Also, for the vidiots that may be reading this thread, is there anything i can do with my camera gear to make sure something doesn't happen while i'm away...i'm mainly worried about dust and whatnot getting into the gear, but i figured a few ziplock bags and my normal camera bag should work. again, any response is helpful Semper Fi Edit to add: I jump an areodyne container, Saber II 120, and a PD 150 reserve...dont know if the setup makes a difference for storage, but yea.... Thanks again!
  8. my favorite thing to do in the artillery community is gettin a boot to "callibrate" the M94 (which is a radar gun for a howitzer.....basically). We make him do the "boom test" which involves him running up and down the gun line shouting BOOM at the top of the lungs in full combat gear...it's funny as hell and then we gotta give him a class on the piece of gear and ensure he knows how it works... I've never told anyone to do it, but i've seen some section chiefs do it
  9. i had a friend of mine committ suicide....in fact, he was a pretty good friend....the part that hurt the most was the fact he blamed me for his problems, and in his note said he didn't want me to attend his funeral because i was datin his ex. to this day i blame myself for his death, and wish i would never have made him suffer so. he had threatened other x's with suicide....however when i dated one of his x's, he followed through with his threat. even though we are now getting married, feb. 20th is always going to be a rough month. further, i lost a good friend exactly 6 months to the day in a skydiving accident....nobody knows why he went in with a no-pull...i've always looked at it as my friend getting back at me for causing him pain. nothing was more depressing than the days/weeks that followed johns death. however i still feel there is nothing more selfish than suicide.
  10. i was there today as well...nice set-up and lots of people
  11. thanks for the response everyone...i normally used asics, but decided to give a new style shoe a chance...broke em in and then ended with the problem....i'm going to head out to a running store and just see what they got to say. I'm not a bad runner (average a 630 mile) but i just simply hate it...haha. Thanks again for the recomendations and tips though
  12. So, i really hate running, so joining the Marines proly is viewed by some as a dumb idea....however, i dont mind the humps (get your mind outta the gutter folks) or any of the pt, but like i said, never been a fan of running. So, after a couple years in i decided to try some new running shoes (a nike pair) i broke em in (for about 2 months, nothing serious, just 3-4 mile runs), then on a 6-7 mile run today i ended up with some really shitty blisters, both feet and on the balls of the feet, so i'm assuming it's the shoes or my stride....anyone recommend a better pair of shoes/something in my stride that may cause this? or a way to actually like running? PMs appreciated or just reply to this thread edit to add: i dont think it's my stride as i haven't had blisters like this from running in a pair of broken in shoes before...boots yes, shoes no

    SNL Rap

Wow, the rap at the end of the presidential bash was great...can't wait to dl a clip of it and make it a ring tone or something was the best part of the show in my view
  14. i was actually in that area this weekend, and yes, it is a rough place...not what you'd expect in NC
  15. i used to keep every jump on my computer and now external hd, but since the dz i moved to uses linear editing, i mainly lable tapes as i dont want to spend my nights at home uploading and re-editing all of my videos
  16. sorry i didn't post more info. i had the camera both in sports mode, and TV mode the 2 times it has happened. no error code, lense connections were cleaned (as i normally do this once a month) and the lense was taped down....it just kinda froze up, power light was on even in the "off" position. Also, if you'd try to take a picture, it just sort of beeps at you...almost like it's trying to auto focus (which was turned off) and just not getting the right settings it needed to...so i'd take the battery out, put it back in, and it'd work, with absolutely 0 of the settings changed.
  17. I did a quick search and didn't find anything, so if i missed this topic feel free to flame me and link me to the solution... I just recently had a problem while filming a tandem with my camera "freezing"....(rebel xti if the title didn't give that away). I would take a still, and it would be fine, then go to take another still and it would beep at me, not turn off or anything...to solve it i removed the battery, put it back in (it's a new battery...only 2 months old) and it would work fine. I luckily didn't miss any shots on the tandem, but had it fail again on a fun jump...did the same thing and it worked fine again. anyone know what i'm doin wrong, or if there's a software update i haven't gotten? I use a bite switch and a stroboframe mount if that matters.
  18. haha, that's why i put this on here, it sounded a bit like a scam, but we'll see...the guy says he's sending me a check, and has an active profile on dz.com....but yea. anyways, thanks for the info, he's not doing COD cuz i said no
  19. So someone responded to one of my classified adds saying they would be willing to pay COD....i've never done this before, and was wondering how it works, and if you would recommend it....i've only done checks and money orders in the past and mailed out whatever i was selling when the check cleared.
  20. That's about the same as mine...had one cutaway, no entanglement, but yea, those ep's work well if you PRACTICE them many times...i normally go through my ep's for no entanglement and then a seperate one for if my camera gets snagged at least 2x a jump
  21. i'd second the "no charge" for the first few jumps...just tag along with a tandem not having video, almost all of my first few were willing to have me practice. You learn a lot, and if you screw up the shots, no biggie, they didn't pay, and if you do well, offer them the video. I think i've had 2 people turn it down in my jumping career.
  22. my big question is: Will we somehow still be able to blame this also on Bush? I mean, he's taken the blame for just about everything else in the last 8 years second thought, if this guy is right, i'm sure he'll be laughing as we all drown in the tidal wave...but then again, if you keep guessing, you're bound to be right sooner or later
  23. And to everybody posting here saying what they have done to support the troops, i hope you all know we appreciate it. I wasn't starting this post to have people openly have to state how they support their troops, rather i wanted to simply vent on how some people are all talk...etc.
  24. that's the thing, i dont expect for people to fix my car, give me cookies, or take care of my family. What i was saying is that the meaningless "thank you" from somebody who immediatly turns their back on the soldiers/Marines after you leave is what i hate. I dont expect free shit, but if i get it, that, to ME says that they really do support their troops. A meaningful "thank you" from someone who truely does support the troops means just as much. The point of my original post was either support us or dont, but dont be a 2 faced sob and tell me that you support me, and then go and prove that you dont.
  25. [/begin rant] After reading a lot of comments here, it has me wondering how many people really do support their troops...not just say they do, but no shit support them. When i was driving to my last duty station, i met someone who did...i had some car trouble, and the mechanic fixed it for free, saying that after what "we" (the us military) have gone through that it was a small price to pay. However, i've heard many other people say "thanks" and "we support you" and then turn around and say we should convict the military on war crimes, and how evil we all are...it's a fuckin war, not pink teddy bears and fluffly bunnies. Evil shit happens, support us or dont, but i'm sick and tired of everyone getting their jollies by offering up an empty "thank you" so he/she can look good in the eyes of those around them. Do you support your troops? Have you sent any gifts to soldiers, sailors, or Marines overseas? Have you helped out any of the spouses with everyday duties that seem to stack up when her husband or his wife is away? It's one thing to say you support your troops, but it's entirely different to show that you do... [/end rant]
