  1. no way, most wingsuit pilots never swooped. Half are young guys who wanted to BASE jump, and half are middle aged and love to tell people how to do stuff (and post on this site)
  2. 50% eh? Squirrel must have a loooooooooooot of sponsored jumpers out there judging the amount of people you see flying them these days :)
  3. The op said he jumps a snatch and I jump a standard asylum apex vented pilot chute. I know quite a few other people that jump base pilot chutes skydiving.
  4. Yup, but I have consistent information and data that non-collapseable pilot chutes make your canopy fly worse, and deflect the center cell. If youre using a big canopy, not too bad, smaller canopies it becomes more and more noticeable. The pilot chute if cocked properly should work fine. Looks like theres some oscillation happening that pulled off heading as well. I find that bridle length seems to make more of a difference. For reference, I use a 32 inch asylum pilot chute that i converted to a kill line with an 11ft bridle.
  5. I jumped an optimum as a main years ago for a handful of jumps so I cant say I remember much about it. As far as the fabric goes, the optimum fabric always felt a little denser to me. Not neccesarily bulkier, but when packed just feeling a little more brick like. I know PD has been developing a similar concept out of their optimum material, but I havent flown it. Im sure they optimized the production canopy more for use as a main in some way, and im sure itll be comprable to the episcene. Ive jumped many base canopies made from poscher fabric, and its always worn well for me, especially with a ZP leading edge. I had a base canopy that had over 500 jumps on it and still felt basically new to fly and flare.
  6. Im sure its decreased compared to a 9 cell canopy like a sabre, but i never got the sense I was sinking out of the sky. Also, for the same pack volume i have a 150 vs a 120, so im sure I get some additioanl glide when going downwind from that. Pulled at about 4k both times to make sure I had some time to play. Its been said before that this isnt a canopy that everyone needs, but if youre looking for a canopy that fits where your small and/or crossbraced canopy is that is nice and docile and gives you really nice opening in a big wingsuit, then I dont really know if you can do much better.
  7. So got a couple jumps on this canopy and I LOVE it. Basically opened directly on heading in a comfortable but not snively manner. The only think I can relate it to is a soft base opening. I was very pleasantly surprised with the flare as this was my biggest concern with the canopy being ultralight F111. Havent had a chance to swoop it yet, but will see how it goes. As it says on the video, this is not an ultra high performance canopy, so the turn rate is not super high with toggle turns, but not a bus by any means. Front riser pressure is soft at the beginning but builds with speed. I was able to pull the dive loop to my shoulder level and hold it there for about a 720. When I received the canopy, I thought that the brake lines seemed a little too long, but the factor setting were actually perfect. I had gotten to the point where I was using a bunch of special techniques before deployment and was scared of what could happen every time I threw out my pilot chute. Its going to take a little while for those fears to go away, but to be able to just pitch out of full flight again and have a nice consistent opening is very exciting.
  8. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERZqkUqw-xg Man this thread has covered the gambit. I agree that scotty has no class because he made a big lebowski reference. Personal attack, ban him!!!!! At least people are back to taking an online message board way too seriously where at least 50% of the people writing are only here to inflame others. PS, a lot of the insulting my and scotty do of each other on here is done while sitting in the same room on weather days when we are bored. When do we get to argue about how to measure bigway wingsuit formations again?
  9. Is this a problem people are commonly having? Ive jumped this type of bridle for about 5 years and have literally never had that happen once.
  10. It's not hard to cock the pilot chute at all. The distance is nice, and not having the center cell deflect like 18 inches back from a non kill line was well worth an hour of sewing.
  11. Got my episcene today. I am replacing a sabre 120. Havent had a chance to jump it becase of shit weather in norcal. Kind of an odd feeling packing a 150 into a bag for a 120, but it fits fairly easily. My 120 was very tight in my Javelin DNKY and id say the episcene 150 has a slightly smaller pack volume, and thats brand new out of the bag. I have an 11 ft bridle with a 32 inche base pilot chute that i converted to a kill line as my setup. Will let everyone know when I jump it first.
  12. At least I know how to land a parachute and I don't use Jeb quotes in my profile
  13. Good to hear hes doing well. I think Loic gets forgotten too often for the immense contribution hes made to wingsuit flying.
  14. The final answer was sunpath has it!
  15. Heard the same thing about the Core, so I wont hold my breath. Sfly suits have a magical property where only the french can fly them anyway In a serious and actual question, what is Loic's involvement these days and hows he doing?
  16. 0584 just won the internet. That was pretty amazing. Cmon do tony now!
  17. Yes, and Phoenix fly makes arguably the best wingsuits in the world. But the lead times exceed what is promised and there has been a well documented lack of communication. I don't think anyone can argue the quality of the product, just concern with the way it is delivered and the business model.
  18. Just like youre a fan boy if you disagree with the title of this thread....
  19. still i prefer my stuff to be made by adults. Yup, ozone paragliders are known for the shitty quality and poor work standards, that where theyre a company 10x bigger than all the aforementioned wingsuit manufacturers combined. Where exactly do you think about 90% of your wardrobe is made? On the copying front, isnt the whole point of wingsuits and their advancement to see whats out there and improve on it? I would be willing to bet any amount of money that even Tony, Matt, and Robi themselves wouldnt admit theyve gotten ideas from each others work.
  20. Haha rest assured lee that this is for a wingsuit, so all but about 1 inch of the lateral will be completely contained in my black wingsuit. The rest of the container will be black 210 dyneema which I think will make a nice contrast. Thanks everyone for the leads.
  21. Looking to make a harness out of neon green webbing for a base rig. Cant seem to find it anywhere online, and the only reason I believe it even exists is because in the MLW repair section of the riggers handbook has the example done on some. Looks like its type 8 in the picture. Anyone got any leads? I just found this but not sure about the rating or type. Breaking strength. Smart rigger types please weigh in! http://www.strapworks.com/Flat_Nylon_Webbing_p/fnw2.htm
  22. Got my confirmation of delivery mid dec. Ill let everyone know when it arrives
  23. Sure I can reach the base of my risers in a classic, but the original poster asked about control during line twists. I wouldn't reach up to fight line twists in a suit with thumb loops still on. In my aura, and I would assume most othe suits with a good escape sleeve design, I can reach up and and fly my entire canopy flight, and regularly do, without unzipping my arms. Definitely wouldn't donthat in my funk.
  24. I agree with the silly question option. If a suit has an escape sleeve option, that will be the quickest because you can reach straight up. In suits that have thumb loops (havok/funk/shadow) the thumb loop prevents this so you pretty much have to unzip. It was common practice for quite a few norwegian base jumpers in sflys to cutaway their wings while the canopy was opening because that was the fastest method in that suit. I guess the answer is... depends.
