Is the backlight just for the LED screen, or does the backlight light up the altimeter face as well (for night jumps)?

Might be that a memory stick is flaking out on you. Try removing the RAM that you orginally had in it (just run it w/ the new memory). You'll need to move the new memory chips into the slots that the old memory occupied.

I'm curious... does the USPA make its annual budget available for review to its members? To a person that is not fully informed, it does seem curious that the organization has invested heavily in building new facilities for its employees while service to its supporting member base sometimes comes across as very lacking. What information is available for members that wish to see how their dollars are being used but yet are not able to travel to attend the regional/national meetings?

You can put as much time and money into triathlons as you want. If you're new to tri's and want to get into them, I'd suggest selecting a "sprint" distance one first. These are generally around .5 mile swim, 15 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run. I've seen the whole spectrum of bikes being used... everything from first-timers using mountain bikes to $5000 custom tri bikes. http://www.trifind.com would be a great place to start... Lately there's been a lot of discussion about falling out of "the hole" on looser fitting skydiving rigs. In the last month there was a tandem passenger fatality because of this very thing. I don't think its wise for manufacturers to believe that ill fitting harnesses are not a potential safety issue.

I recently graduated off S/L progression and if AFF was available around here I probably would have elected for that option at the time. However looking back I'm glad that I did do S/L. From my unscientific observations it seems that students that went through S/L generally have better canopy control and landing skills than AFF students. I'm surprised at the number of posts I see where people talk about difficulties in standing up their landings even well after obtaining their A license. To date, I've stood up all of my landings (yes I know I don't have all that many jumps though) and know of other recent grads at my dropzone that have done the same. I think AFF dropzones could turn out students that are on equal footing with S/L dropzones for canopy control and landings if they made a point of emphasizing that part of the curriculum. But, I think the nature of the AFF training ends up putting more of an emphasis on the freefall portion of the jump.

I'm flexible on dates, nothing specific in mind. Mainly I wanted to see if camps are going to be scheduled in the future. I've got family in Denver, so its worth me waiting and going there rather than going to Orlando or AZ. I'm looking at improving improving my belly flying and will be my first time in a tunnel. The Airspeed camps at Orlando & AZ are what I previously had my eyes on.

Do you guys have any plans (tentative or otherwise) to have tunnel camps any time in the first 1/2 of 2006? I'm wanting to book a camp soon, and CO would be the easiest place to get to for me....

Is there a targetted opening date set? On the website it says Dec. 2005. I'm going to be in Denver in late December and am hoping to book some tunnel time + coaching in... Wondering if this will be feasible or not. Thanks, Bryce

If you're serious about pursuing this and concerned about liability, I would suggest checking out the details of creating an LLC, or Sub-S corporation. Having one of these will normally help shield your personal assets (car, savings, etc) in case someone does come after you. I am not a lawyer and nothing I state should be considered legal advice...

Thanks for the advice all... I think I will go for using a balaclava under my protec until I have a chance to get to a place where I can try some helmets on. I don't really like the idea of shelling out $300 before knowing how the helmet will fit my head

I'm a jumper in Kansas which means that the weather is going to be very cold shortly. I'd like to jump through as much of the winter as possible which makes a full face helmet a needed item. My understanding is that different helmet brands fit different people better or worse depending on the shape of the particular head. With no dealers nearby, whats the most effective strategy for finding/buying an appropriate helmet? Suggestions? Thanks in advance
