  1. Yes, in N.C. plus 16 other states, in one form or another. The "ABC" stands for Alcoholic Beverage Control. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcoholic_beverage_control_state#State_listing
  2. That's because American conservatives will go to any lengths, and pass up no opportunity, to loudly and obnoxiously vilify liberals for any reason, or even, as often as not, no particular reason at all. American liberals, on the other hand, simply wish that the conservatives would all go fuck themselves, and are content to leave it at that.
  3. Not the point I was trying to make, Oh, he knew that fully well when he decided to yank your chain.
  4. Washington's statute is re: gay marriage, not gay sex. Gay sex is legal in many US states that haven't legalized gay marriage.
  5. From a probable cause standpoint (i.e., right then and there at the scene), you have to take it on a case by case basis. The officer looks at the totality of the specific circumstances. Something like a posted no-trespass sign would be one example that would seem to fill the bill. (There could be lots of other examples, too, but I'm trying to be concise.) But that's only at the arrest phase. Then the state has to make the charges stick in court. In most states, in order for trespass charges to stick in court, the premises owner (or occupying tenant) has to testify to the defendant's non-permission to be or remain there. That's it in simplified form.
  6. If you take care of your prostate, it will take care of you.
  7. I'm not joining in on the Islamophobia or Muslim bashing, but your post makes no sense. Do you think sharia law does not support stoning as a punishment, or do you think the moon landing really was faked? The old testament support slaves and concubines, one of which is now considered evil.
  8. Sound like a great big grey area. Time for the lawyers!
  9. I liked the comment about him not being Jesus Christ. LOL, you fools, of course he is. Hey my leg is tingly.
  10. I think I understand the source of your discomfort.
  11. I pine for the days when Americans wanted to be moral leaders in the world, and not followers. I lament the mentality that America should gauge what the right thing to do is based on who else did the right thing first. It's gutless. I made the case on its merits, and I stand by it. If you don't think the other countries have merit, my case still stands on its own. I, for one, am willing to advocate for moral leadership.
  12. Does it occur to anyone that the UAE's umbrage just might not be directed at the seeds?
  13. A simple raw number is of limited value. For what it's worth, here is a now-current list of those countries. It's actually 33 now via legislation, plus Italy via court decision; so call it 34. It's an interesting (and in some cases surprising) mix of nations, actually. I leave it to each reader to decide the value of this list: http://www.endcorporalpunishment.org/pages/progress/prohib_states.html
  14. sales go up? the economy gets stimulated? people hum more on the bus? "Bryl Creem, a little dab'll do ya" "Never paint your house again....Dy No Shield" "RED ROBIN.... yummmmmm" "I wish I was and Oscar Meyer Weiner" vs "Hot Dogs, Armour Hot Dogs, the kind....kids....love...to....bite" "Rice-a-Roni, the San Francisco Treat" More like "Deutschland uber alles".
  15. Well, I don't spank my kids. Plus, they're adults now, so if I did that it would be .... illegal. I didn't mean you specifically. According to the law, what makes a parent spanking their kid legal? Ah. Well, generally, in most US states, the old view of the law is that corporal discipline of juveniles by their parents or guardians (or those in loco parentis, such as teachers), within reason (whatever that means; and that evolves with the times) is deemed an exception carved out of the criminal assault statutes. The more modern view, to which I subscribe, is that such an exception should not and/or does not exist. According to this Wikipedia article, although corporal punishment is still legal in the US (except New Jersey & Iowa, where it's been outlawed), it's been outlawed in 32 countries.
  16. But did you burn it for Jesus? (I can't believe you people missed religion) I will do it for jihad.

  18. When I was their age I was in college. So: Yes. Nowadays my mom should always use her cane when she walks, cuz she's kinda wobbly, and at her age the risk & consequence of a fall is pretty serious. But I often catch her not doing so around her own place: "Oh, it's just for a minute, blah blah." Drives me nuts. Asking, begging, lecturing or yelling doesn't work. Next time she does it I'll swat, er, hit, her on the butt just hard enough to sting & make her cry. I'll even do it in front of a cop. Let's see how well that goes over.
  19. unacceptable violence, she should have found another way are you ok? did you call social services? did it drive you gay? If so, have you either held a press conference, or quietly told your close friends? I blame George Bush, and Obama. I hope your family's history of violence doesn't keep you from buying guns. (there, that covered most topics) I went right out and burned a flag.
  20. The Marines can land on any goddamn beach they want. that the Navy will take them to. Just putting that out there. FIFY. The swabbies were always a good bunch of bus drivers.

  22. I appreciate the honesty of using "swat" in the description instead of the normal ramp-up of "hit" "assault" "knife wound" "axe strike" verbage normally used to inhibit the discussion. (seriously) It makes for a cleaner and more reasonable debate and your point is clear and made in a way that you have to look at it for what it is (a good point) rather than jumping off on a tangent. Antiseptic terms are often self-enabling and are sometimes intellectually dishonest. Hitting is hitting. If it would be called "hitting" if done to an 85 year-old, then it's "hitting" when done to a 10 year old. Is there such a thing as "swatting" as distinguished from "hitting"? Sure. Recently, I (being in my 50s) was with my mom (in her 80s) and family around the dinner table and casually dropped an f-bomb in conversation. She reached over, swatted my wrist and said, "Hey! Wash your mouth out!" My kids, who eff-word 5 times per sentence, thought it was pretty funny. That's a swat. P.S., had I done that at age 13, she'd have slapped my face. That was hitting.
