  1. ahh i see now things are making more since. thanks for clarifying. yeah i have seen a diagram drawing which shows the plane and a line of belly flyer to ff. and how they drift more this is what made me think of the scenario how i did, but 20 or 30 seconds extra freefall i can see that would make a big difference in drift now.
  2. hey i hadone still in good condition, i think i sold it for 600. dont rememeber how many jumps were on it but maybe this will help give a ball park figure for you. i was the third owner
  3. hey well thanks for this discussion i definitely dont know everything and this can help me get a better idea on the subject. i just figured belly first freefliers last and the hill is what seperated the two, you would figure however the winds would affect the groups the same since they are on the same load.
  4. so if there is no wind, what determines seperation?
  5. My point was that he should go first because he is going to fall slower, not because he's going to exit on his belly. Dave i agree that in that situation of a learning freeflier it would be wise for him to go first but we usually stick to the regulations. i guess the problem is knowing if that person is going to be really freeflying or not. fallrate shouldnt determine horizontal seperation. when everyone comes off the hill they settle into a straight down fall.( dosent matter if your belly or FF your going down in the same direction just different speeds).therfore the hill is what causes the horizontal seperation.
  6. how many close calls have you guys had?
  7. i think the bottom line is horizontal seperation is what matters nothing else.after you come off the hill all groups will eventually settle into a straight fall (no wind from the throw of the plane} Big to small belly groups first then big to small freefly groups last. The problem here in my post was the guy trying to freefly solo (because he is learning) and not really doing a freefly exit or even freeflying on the whole jump for that matter. on that exit he will be over you on deployment. i dont know about you but even a hundred feet horizontal seperation is to close for comfort.
  8. both groups (belly and ff) have the same relative wind, the same hill. but there body orientation determines how far the wind pushes them. so belly would be pushed back further from the same wind, but freeflyers exiting on the same hill are less affected by the wind because of there body postition.
  9. QuotePardon my asking, but I just have never been exactly sure on how to load the plane. Is the general idea you're stating here that freefliers have less of a hill than someone on their belly would? When I was starting, I always figued freefliers out before belly just because of the fall rate but obviously that's wrong[/rep when you exit on your belly the wind from the plane flying pushes you back further than if you were free flying. think of free flyers as exiting the door and falling more straight down off the hill. belly flyers are pushed farther out from the wind. so if a belly exit went after freeflyers. the freeflyers would go straight down while the belly flyer would exit seconds later but be pushed more and likely over the freeflyers.
  10. hey just a quick question which sometimes bothers me on exit. lets say you are doing a 2 way freefly so you go out behind the belly flyers, then after you is the solo freeflyer that cant freefly but is learning to. Well if they exit behind you and ride the hill down on there belly dosent that go aginst the idea of freeflyers last? if they just flail around and basically do a belly exit from the start wont that put them right over you? how do you poeple feel about this situation??
  11. hey i always hear people brag about the new invention of the skyhook. i was wondering if there is a reason someone would not jump one? if you do not want a skyhook installed in your rig what would be your reason for that?
  12. Yes it is and here. hey thanks, that is awsome. I was actually talking to a friend about how it would be cool to have a device just like this. I guess someone had the same idea and beat me to the punch. thats awsome though saves me the time. does this one work really good for you?
  13. hey just curious is this is what i think it is and where can you get one?
  14. notice the posting title, perceived little risk? We all know the risk is the same no matter whos jumping, it has never changed (only maybe less risk with the invention of better gear). But how has your view of skydiving changed with experience? maybe thats why such high number jumpers are dieing, and pushing the limit. the regular skydiving world has became easy and they push the limits even more.
  15. Are you kidding? You should be thinking you'll have a gear malfunction on every jump. Complacency kills. I mean good canopy period!! If i really thought my reserve was going to malfunction i wouldent be jumping, i am aware its a risk....but i look at it as a little one
  16. I"m aware that a each time you make a jump, that is another chance for tragedy to occur. yes statistically you are more at risk with more jumps (how could you not be), but people who have pulled off more jumps without incident....are they more likely to perceive what they do as not really dangerous? I guess i am also referring to the gear aspect of skydiving. Yes we all know someone can take you out of the sky, without you ever seeing it coming, Or other what if accidents that could occur. But for the gear aspect do some people think they wont get a good canopy above there head on the next jump?
  17. hey all i was just curious if after some of you have been in this sport for many years like me and many jumps later.....Do you now look at skydiving as not really a big risk??? Jumping from a plane has become second nature to me and i dont really feel like i am in much danger (as the normal wuffo would assume). I know parachutes malfunction and i will be ready when mine does, but overall i think my attitude towards skydiving is that it isnt to dangerous and a good canopy with a good pack job will open just about everytime. So i guess my question is, Have you who have been in this sport for years feel like after a long time of jumping you percieve skydiving as minimal risk?? Or maybe more a risk than when you started?
  18. hey Who said rigs were expensive? Only if you wanna jump the gear from this day and age then maybe. But if you buy an old military round or get a t10 you can come out cheap. The newer gear can get to be expensive, but like i said if you dont wanna jump the new technologically advanced gear im sure you could find an old piece o crap to jump for cheap.. Its like the old expression goes. you get what you pay for. To me the new gear is worth the expense cause back in the day you couldent get this gear even if you had millions...Because it wasent invented YET!!!
  19. Mirage is the best of course! (to me anyway) I like the mirage because of all the detail put into the rig, especially for freeflyers. I think in a rig its all the small things that make the big difference. The bridle protection is built into the design. secure flaps, solid riser and pin protection. And a good bonus is they look the coolest! only con for some people would be no skyhook, other than that where can you make a complaint about this rig?
  20. hey no what i mean by this is it actually comes from the material. i pull my flap closed and it turns white by the trim tape and material in that area that stretches the most. i dont know if i am just crazy, it kinda aggervates me cause i like it to look all neat but then i have this white area where it was strecth. i have actually watched myself pull it closed and sure enough when it stretches it fades to white, then i usually brush it really hard and it kinda fades back to the original color. im sure this isnt a big problem i just dont know why that happens and was wondering if i am the only one who has noticed this or maybe its just me.
  21. hey i have noticed this with my gear and some others. When i pack my mirage and are closing the main flaps, i stretch the last flap closed (the one with the bridle under it,right flap) and put the pin in. I notice my flap has this what looks like white dust one it, my flap turns white maybe from stretching??. I can kind of brush it a good bit with my hand and the white (dustlike) fades off and my flap color looks normal again. has anyone else ever noticed this or even know why my flap does this? i have noticed it on some rental rigs i have packed aswell.
  22. hey i dont think so, my rigger who i bought the helmet from said it was designed for the 70 and i should get that one. i have just gotten one and its a perfect fit, so i would say no it cant. and at 250 min of playtime, who needs the 100 just more expensive.
  23. hey yeah it does, the size (nfph...something like that)70 is what it was made for.
  24. hey i was also thinking of customizing my helmet, anyone have any idea of the type of paint i would need???, i think someone at the dropzone said to use acrylic paint. well anyone else know?
  25. i have about 70 camera jumps, with non tandems. I think i am at a point where i have enough skills to take it to the next level and apparently my DZO thinks so aswell. i just like to study things fully when i go into it. i didnt mean for this to turn into why i shouldent fly with tandems, As the headline says, tips on tandems, is what i was searching for. i realize my outta date profile kinda set me up for this speech but i have had many camera jumps with jumpers and a few tandems. i am trying to work on getting better thanks for your concerns but i was asking for tips
