this post ended up sending me down a 2+ hour rabbit hole of answering the questions "what is a carbon cub" and "what would I do with one" I learned that you can buy one new for 300k, or build from a kit for about half that. They climb quick and fly slow. I wondered what the point would be unless you lived in Alaska or Canada though.

I've been down the same rabbit hole . Not sure that scotland is really their natural habitat though.
If you like that stuff - watch some of Trent Palmers videos - he has a thing called a kitfox that comes in cheaper too

  2. Regardless of R or D, I genuinely don't understand how anyone can have a favourable opinion of him? Anyone with even a modicum of intelligence can see that he's a liar - he often gives two opposing views in the same sentence. He's openly bigoted, clearly not the sharpest sandwich in the six pack, and a deeply cruel person.

Course, I may just have answered my own question.

I guess my first question would be:

What were the winds on that helipad?
The strength of the wind will make a HUGE difference.

I am impressed with that landing, but some of the Alaska STOL competitors are also very impressive. Depending on the wind conditions, some of them are stopped in a few feet. And back up in a similarly short distance.

I've been watching the Mike Patey videos about how they built the red bull plane - one of the things they said was that they wanted it to be multi purpose, so this isn't a one trick STOL pony.

Underneath, its a carbon cub with as much weight stripped out as they could. They have replaced a number of panels with carbon to make it lighter, lighter tyres and stuff. The big changes were that they moved the fuel tank low down in the fuselage so the pilot could stand on the brakes without putting it on its nose - that fuel tank is only 7 Gallons and then they have a removable 25 gallon tank for transfers and airshows and what have you.

Oh - and they gave it a 50HP shot of NOS to get it safely back in the air :D

If you like engineering wizardry, all of Mike Pateys stuff is fascinating - his own previous plane builds, Draco and Scrappy are absolute monsters.

This is the first Build video for the carbon cub

    Hi folks,

The Oregon legislature is considering a bill to provide $1,000/month/person for a 2-yr period as a Basic Income to people in need.

Bill sparks debate on a guaranteed income program for Oregon - OPB

My concern is that it could lead to more drug overdoses [ they now would have more money to buy drugs ] and it could lead to a lot more people coming to Oregon to get on the money bandwagon.

I am interested in what people think about this; and, especially, those of you outside of the USA.

    Jerry Baumchen

My concern is that all of those at the bottom of society will get exploited to the tune of their entire UBI, end up in exactly the same position, and those higher up the ladder will just get richer.

As an example, a landlord will know the tenant has a guaranteed 1k, so will up his rent because he knows there is some guaranteed income every month.

In concept, I think UBI is the right answer, because it probably costs less and is far easier to administer than any welfare scheme. Unfortunately in order for it to really work you probably need UHC as well.

It is beyond me why anyone would take the cherry picked words from a flawed translation describing the prejudices of a band of neolithic goat herders some 2000+ years ago as a guide to moral rectitude in the 21st Century that they wish to impose on everyone else..

Because some people don't have the mental acuity to think and work these things out for themselves, and need to be told what their opinions should be. And that's fine, until they try and legislate it, or push other people to follow those same opinions.

Ok, so you don't care about that stuff, but then why do you feel the need to lie that it's not in the Bible?  Or are you arguing semantics between the words 'enter' and inherit?  Or do you really not know that it's listed in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11?

Ahhh  - cherry picking translations. The usual then.

in reporting that Trump might actually have lost the election.

Hey Wendy I'm curious. In your opinion, is that because they genuinely don't believe that he could have lost, or that they viewed fox as "their" team and that it should have stood by the lie to try and force the coup?

The Bible says they will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

It doesn't. And even if your warped analysis decides it does, who cares. The bible says I can't eat shellfish either but the chowder on my stove smells really good.

Good catch. Its amazing what the WP and NYT scoop up.

In Florida you take a big ole bite of the MAGA pie if you want to represent its republican voters. trump didn't move there for just the weather.

Can you not just trim florida off and float it out into the ocean? Seems like you'd get rid of a lot of the crazy.

Don't forget the idea that "the people" are fighting the elites. The elite political, the elite rich and their politically connected friends are the enemy. Only our "group/tribe" can fight this cabal of elites.

The bit I don't get is how the GOP have managed to market themselves as the party of the blue collar, traditional, working man American while simultaneously legislating against, ridiculing and mocking people who actually are (or were - AOC as an example).
I get why they attract support from all of the worst bigoted groups, that bit is apparent.

recommended the Blackburn Buccaneer as a strike aircraft and Lightning as an interceptor.

I remember hearing stories about how good the Buccaneer was and (almost certainly exaggerated) stories about another plane being on a low level run and finding out there was a buccaneer basically underneath them.

The best that Q had to offer was that it gave some measure of hope to 50% of the common folk. We know that the other 50% is flat out lying to us.

Thankfully, I don't think its anywhere near 50 per cent that fell for it. Just the extremes of the bigoted, the gullible, and the not so bright.

I know a pretty successful business owner that leases exotic sports cars, mainly to impress.

Leases. That's not all that impressive, but it IS his entire personality.

He seems to want to spend large amounts of money to simply impress other people.

Meh. I prefer to save as much as possible and balance it with enjoying life. Saving will be a part of the enjoyment.

I worked with a guy years ago who had his entire career mapped out in terms of what car he was going to own at what age and stage. I remember thinking even as an early 20 something that was pretty pathetic. A lot of my uni peers got caught in the cycle of "keeping up with the joneses" in London as well. I just don't work that way.

Good. Killing people in the name of "justice" absolutely should NOT be easy. Particularly given the chances of getting it wrong.

If the person how wants to die is mentally incapacitated who decides?

Thats always going to be a tough one, but there are loads of situations that are much simpler, where people have mental capacity but such a low quality of life that this can be a much kinder way out. We shouldn't try and solve for every situation from day one.
