I think in general you can.

In general, sure. We don't need the daily fear of terrorism or forced conscription of israelis.

In gun control, not so much.

There's a number of other countries that haven't had school shootings in years/ decades. Want to guess what the common factor with israel is? (hint - its not the walls and armed guards.)

Makes no sense. It's called utilizing best practices. You don't have to ship all of the issues that Israel has over here to use those things that work.

Yeah and israels best practice includes low rates of private gun ownership and strict controls on what they are used for, as well as social democratic policies to pay for all the guards, walls etc. You don't have to ship their issues, but you do have to ship the rest of the solution.

You know my position regarding 2A and solutions I've put forth. Given the current climate; I point to Israel as a model for a workaround.

And I repeat, you can't cherry pick part of Israel's solution without everything else as well.

Not my idea, but I think it's funny as hell.

Have the LBGTQ community start touting how great AR-15s are.
Get a bunch of videos of trans folks & drag queens shooting them.

Watch the alt right lose their minds.

    ;P

Yeah once a bunch of LGBTQ+ people start shooting people because they felt threatened by the seal team six crowd, I'm sure all of a sudden some of the objections to gun control would magically disappear.

    Israel. Doctors in every household.

They're never going to flourish if they're dead.

[We can't get off our asses enough to write our legislature and the legislature won't get off their asses to write any formative gun bills]

Feel free to continue to use israel as an example.

Don't forget you also need to implement their level of gun control for the same results.

So plain, so clear and yet we simply choose NOT to provide that level of protection... Troubling, isn't it?

I agree, reducing private gun ownership to less than 2% of the population like israel has would certainly go a long way to helping.

2016 taught me to never make political predictions, but if I were a betting man I'd say DeSantis is spent

It looks that way from across the sea - and desantis keeps getting his ass handed to him by disney which just makes him look like an idiot

After watching about 100 of his videos I had to stop. I feel so inferior needing seven hours of sleep a night. Wasting time on SC. All of his other engineering accomplishments. Although his pool addition on his home made me feel as if he has cognitive disabilities of a sort.

I just love his machined double slotted flap/slat ribs on his latest full build. I think of those flaps/slats on a Carbon Cub.

 yep totally. The level of detail of his engineering for even the smallest piece on an experimental airplane is bonkers.

IMO most foreigners think the US is beholden to special interest groups. Not Soros type stuff. But the gun lobby, big pharma lobby, etc. They likely don't understand how conservative small states can control the agenda over the vote of larger population. Or how powerful unlimited lobbying can be.

I have never heard of someone not going to the US because of gun violence. But every country has a unique identity. As an example the US has never really had a public outcry over huge defense spending. Joe probably ain't gonna like this. But the secret documents disclosed by Guardsman Teixeira. Revealed that our P.M. stated to US officials that Canada would likely never meet NATO 2% spending agreements.

Guns. As long as there is FOX, conservatives in bed with the gun lobby. There is not likely to be real changes that reduce gun violence and senseless shootings. At least not while I'm alive.

I suspect those in the know are starting to see a slowdown in tourism to the US. For the first time ever I saw the US advertising for tourists on TV - usually its places like Qatar or Denmark or Morocco who do that to raise awareness that they exist.

My company and a bunch of others I know have reduced our US footprint significantly. The omens aren't as bad as they were during Trumps tenure, but he definitely made a lasting mess of the international relationships. Biden is a huge improvement internationally but he's got some work to do.

    Hi Ken,

Looks to me like another one crawled out of the woodwork.

Yes, he will soon make my list.

    Jerry Baumchen

Oh god there’s another one. Or more likely, the same one. Did the last one get banned? Either way, this is an easy block.

While I don't have an issue with conservatism in general, I am truly surprised that any thinking person could support the GOP in 2023

They can't. And therein lies the problem.

  12. AUF1 is an Austrian far-right online channel promoting fake news and political conspiracy theories. The channel was founded in June 2021 by Stephan Magnet and has an audience in Austria and Germany. In 2022, the Austrian media authority Komm Austria [de] initiated proceedings against AUF1.[1]

Brent - I know critical thinking is not your strongpoint - but even you should have worked out in the last century or so that allying yourself with far right Austrians probably puts you on the wrong side of history.....

I get that. But when you live in the rural; everyone needs help with something at one time or another. Most times, it requires a pickup.

I've lived rurally in a few countries now, weirdly only in the states does everyone and their dog seem to "need" a pickup.

Yep.  Around here (a neighborhood in Sorrento Valley, which is heavy in biotech and telecom) it's closer to 50%.  The older guy who hates foreign cars and always walks his little dog when I am walking ours just got the Cadillac EV and loves it.  The 82 year old widow who lives down the street just got one, but occasionally has to ask me how to get the thing to stay connected to her wifi.  But other than that she likes it.

But despite half the houses here having an EV in their garage, we don't have any blackouts or brownouts.  Inconceivable!

Yeah I expect in response they will make up a load of utter bollocks that makes no sense whatsoever to any sentient individual. Wait, how will we tell again?
