  1. Anyone catch the Rangers last night? Came from 2-0 down to win in the shootout 3-2. Shanny of course leading the way with a sick game tying goal and then the shootout winner where he roofed it over Fleury's glove side shoulder. For the first time Crosby actually really impressed me though. Dont get me wrong I know he is an incredible player, but I thought there was just sooo much hype. Last night he scored a really nice goal that started at his own blue line, split the D and then a nice flick over lundquist to put the ice chickens up 2-0. I heart this game.
  2. That was really cool, watched it from my office this morning.
  3. "Who is Strep Throat?? So, do you have to put a flag in a flower pot on your balcony everytime you want to talk to him? " Not bad.
  4. I actually was at the taping of celebrity jeopardy. Before the actual round they have a "pretend" round that gets the contestants used to the buzzers and answering the questions with a question.... All through the pretend round the producers are telling the audience "dont worry the questions in the real round will be much much harder..."
  5. Lot of good ones already listed, but I pobably watched these the most: Spaceballs European Vacation Spies like Us Who's Harry Crumb? Battle of Britain The PBS documentary of the Civil War. Probably watched that whole thing 7-8 times. I lived in Japan for a long time and watched the same VHS tapes over and over when I wasn't playing super famicom.
  6. I was just about to go to WM but they were "shooting puppies in the parking lot" so I turned around and took my business elsewhere. Nice job on the Show.
  7. Normally dont like starbucks, but I am drinking a maple macchiato which is quite delicious. Otherwise its tea , cant shake those years spent in london.
  8. Remember to stop for a pretzel along the way! Good luck! Oh yeah and remember to set your alarm properly (AM/PM, Volume) and avoid grabbing "water" from Kramer.
  9. All online, Wsj, nytimes, FT, news.bbc.co.uk, glance at google news to see what else is out there, then head to gawker.com so I can hold my own at the water cooler. Check Brookings at least once a week too. -Mike
  10. Awesome story! I took a trip through Holland two years ago that followed the path of 30 Corps during Operation Market Garden. I had done a lot of research as well as read the book and seen the movie, "A Bridge Too Far" but nothing compares to just standing where such battles took place. I got enormous goose bumps and both of my grandfathers fought in the pacific. Thanks for the pics and the story, gave me a whole new set of goose bumps.
  11. No balcony but the windows open really wide. Everyone at my office is pretty relaxed. After the initial "what the hell is going on?" phase. People have gone back to work as usual.
  12. FDNY is saying it was a helicopter. There is a Heliport further south on the East side. Apparently it was having trouble and dropped sharply hitting the apartment building at a steep angle. Reports are also coming across that people may be trapped in the higher floors. I have an apt. on the west side and I regularly (meaning about 5-6 times and hour) see helicopters and small planes below me (I am on 34th Floor)
  13. Everyone was up watching hockey last night right? Sick shootout goal by Briere of the Sabres, great comeback for the Stars, and Toronto begins right where they left off Lets Go Rangers!!!!
  14. I want all original 6 teams to be strong teams. To bad you cant catch home games on television in chicago.
  15. Do you think its picking up at all in the deep south? I know Carolina is not deep south but its "The South" to me and they just won the cup. I interned at the ECHL a while ago and they have a ton of southern teams that had good attendance records. Even here in NY though the coverage of the Rangers who have a hardcore following is more limited than ever. I think the games are going to be on OLN again this year, although the network is changing its name to "Versus." Can not wait until Thursday, or even the pre-season game tonight.
  16. I can't wait! Have tickets for opening night Rangers vs. Caps. Who is your team?
  17. I think part of the problem is that I am not a very picky eater and good restaurants surround my apt so its easy to be lazy. I have watched food network a few times and stared blankly at a few cookbooks. I guess I just have to pick a week and try to cook every night and see how it goes. Thanks for all the help so far!
  18. I have always feared cooking. If its not boiling water to make pasta and then dumping pasta sauce on the finished pasta, I am clueless. How did you learn?
  19. You are really all over the place these days. I saw you quoted in last friday's journal about internet dating. Good luck on the show
  20. How about a group happy hour in the city sometime? Seems like there are a few NY types hanging out around here.
  21. There was a lady in my apartment who had this little terrier that she would walk with a retractable leash. After one walk she got in the elevator and the dog did not. Doors closed and the elevator started to go up. You could hear her freakin out as the doorman and I watched stunned as the terrier slides up the outside of the elevator doors. He was in a harness so although squeezed was otherwise fine by the time the lady pushed the emergency stop. Would have been cool if the little guy cutaway and pulled his reserve.
  22. I collect old ads or storefront signs. The kind that are faded on old brick buildings and advertise old technology or services. Whenever I see one I snap a photo. Quite a few books too.
  23. I work in finance and would agree with you about "existing on two planes." One of the things I loved about volunteering at the WFFC last summer was I got to meet people with vastly different priorities than what I am used to. I think regardless of white or blue collar most skydivers seem to believe in enjoying life and that your job is a means to that end not the other way around.
  24. I have a family friend that is a very nervous person. Very soon after the London bombings he was flying from NY to London. Was in the lounge for BA and started getting nervous about this guy. He was middle eastern and didnt look nice. The family friend is twitchy like i said so after getting more and more nervous he goes to the desk and says he wants to get on the next flight. The desk agent at the lounge says sure, but can I ask why. After some coaxing the guy says that he is nervous and knows he is irrational but does not like the "look" of the middle eastern guy in the lounge. The Desk agent smiles and says, that the scary middle easterner is a security consultant for BA and former Israeli special forces commando.
