  1. Just making out my Christmas list, and wondered what you all want Santa to bring you... For those keeping score, I want "The Journey to Wild Divine" video game. (I added the "or who" to invoke the horny rule of flaming threads...) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Don't be afraid of death, be afraid of the unlived life.
  2. Nice addition to Google.... they keep on addin' cool crap. I started using their desktop search a couple of weeks ago - and it's changed how I look for documents on my computer. Now Micro$oft and Yahoo are scrambling again to catch up on that specific application. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Don't be afraid of death, be afraid of the unlived life.
  3. Hiya Nate, Good to meet another "steely eyed killer of the deep". I was on the USS Parche for 4 years as a nuke (Reactor Control Div). Parche was a "special projects" boat. I had heard rumors that we had the distinction of spending the longest continuous underwater deployment... un-officially of course.... they claimed that we spent nearly 5 months without visiting a port. Jesus God - that sucked. There was a non-fiction book that talked a lot about our missions called "blind man's bluff" things I'm glad I don't have to be a part of: ORSE, blue nose, shellback, training, field day, drills, refit, shiftwork, duty days, pretending to be straight or I'd lose my job, stores loads, hot racking, uniforms, sliders, midrats, being the torpedoman's bitch, bug juice, the smell of diesel, the COB, PMS, "unsat", smoking lamps... the list goes on and on. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4. Yep, it's true... many many many still use 8x6 - in many cases, you just have to choose who you're going to have a battle with - the client with the wide screen monitor or their customer with the 800x600 resolution. At our web shop, we try to make the designs site well on anything 800x600 and above. We can let design drool into the right gutter, but try to keep those graphics in the background - so we don't create horizontal scrollbars. Sometimes the trick is to create the site in a centered table, and allow it to rest comfortably in the middle of whatever resolution you have with some neutral colors (like molalla communications' new site - in construction) If you design the site to force the visitor to scroll left and right - you'll just end up pissin' them off, usually. that's my $0.02 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5. Here's a good reference on cleaning a keyboard If all else fails, you can put it in the dishwasher (use light settings) - it just takes a little bit to dry out... but all the coffee goopiness will be gone. http://www.lairgauche.com/clean-mouse-keyboard.html . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Dead Like Me?

Dead Like Me Rocks! It's like if Touched by An Angel had a funny uncle who cusses and stuff at the family reunions... The pilot was 2 hours and wasn't as clever as the 1/2 hour episodes. Disk 1 contains only the pilot (and a bunch of special features) - disks 2-4 each have four episodes on them. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Don't be afraid of death, be afraid of the unlived life.
  8. Lemme guess...Liberal part of town--> Nauseating combo of B.O., pot smoke, and Patchouli? LOmofoL!!! I'll bet you'll catch some falafel in there as well, maybe cilantro too. (of course, those things are good to smell) On the conservative side of town it's BBQ BBQ BBQ!! Exactly! On the weekends, a good mix can be found at Saturday Market... fairly centrally located - but with plenty of hemp and patchouli to go around. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9. You're right - it would be very interesting in the womens forum or the bonfire. (seems like once somebody gets on a soapbox... it gets moved to this forum anyway... I was just starting it where it would ultimately end up) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Don't be afraid of death, be afraid of the unlived life.
  10. The only thing that made it better with the release of the DVD was the audio commentary - it had me laughing so hard I was crying. "...very soothing, like rubbing the belly of a parrot" - who knows why I think that's funny (perhaps because my mom has a parrot... and it's the furthest thing from soothing EVER) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Don't be afraid of death, be afraid of the unlived life.
  11. Here's an article from Newsweek: My Turn: I’m a Conservative, But I’m Not a Hatemonger The author, Todd Werkhoven, complains that he is attacked because his opinions aren't politically correct. For example, he feels that if he is against abortion, he's labeled as an anti-womens rights activist. Does he receive empassioned responses just because his opinion is different, or because he - and other "conservatives" - make decisions for "the rest of us" based on his religious worldview? He's not a woman, but does his voting affect women's rights... he's not gay, but does he affect gay issues with his biased stance? Is Todd a sexist, racist homophobe or just another Conservative Christian with his own point of view? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 12. 24Hr Church of Elvis had to close doors a few years ago as high rent prices and low offering plate returns made it impossible to make ends meet. The lady who ran it (Stephanie Pierce) was the most eccentric freak-show that I've ever ever met. Other Portland and/or Oregon Facts? >> Highest number of strip clubs per capita >> Lowest church attendance per capita >> On the average, less rain annually than Atlanta , Houston , Birmingham , Indianapolis or Seattle >> We have the smallest municipal park (mill ends park... it's about 24 inches across) >> kick-ass microbreweries - yea beer! >> Powells Books is the largest independant bookstore in the nation Visit Portland... and come visit us when you're in the area, we're bored and need more friends . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 14. I'd heard about this (and almost wrote it... but didn't want to reveal that I actually knew that...) - I heard that fact used as an argument against an "all female submarine crew" . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Don't be afraid of death, be afraid of the unlived life.

  16. I had to see it four times... lots of stuff to process.
  17. Norah too - very nice. (searching through company music server... there she is... ya.) Also, the whole "Garden State" soundtrack pretty much keeps me in a quivery state too. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Don't be afraid of death, be afraid of the unlived life.
  18. I guess I'm a bit old-school... really old school: Etta James "Mystery Lady: Songs of Billie Holiday" She's got a voice of dark, smooth honey . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Don't be afraid of death, be afraid of the unlived life.

  20. I need to be teased sometimes - I occasionally take myself entirely too seriously. It was funny, he started chatting in the bass forum a couple of years ago - and was remarking how addicted to it he was, and how little they talked about playing bass... and discussed every other issue in the planet. I had just rolled my eyes. Now he just rolls his eyes at me. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Don't be afraid of death, be afraid of the unlived life.
  21. I do, in fact, work in the web world... but I promise - I have absolutely nothing to do with this product. My roomie showed me the web site after it was discussed in the bass guitar forum he engages in. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 22. This thread may have a better home in the Women's Only Forum... but I'm a guy - so I'm posting here. I apologize if this needs to be moved. The Keeper and The DivaCup What the f**k? Although I'm not a woman - I can only imagine how horrific this item would be... are tampons really destroying our environment to such a degree that our society needs to step to the rear a few hundred years? Am I missing something - would anybody actually use one of these? Educate this woman-issue-ignorant-guy. -Mark . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
