Couple of comments to add/reinforce what's been said. Picking a school & an instructor. As best your able try to determine if your instructor will be there for the duration of your training. A lot of young instructors are building time for another job and maybe on their way out. Although there are benefits in flying with diff instructors as they may have different techniques for accomplishing the same task, it can make your progress slower. Make sure you have enough funds/time to push through your training once you start. You want to fly at least once or twice a week. Otherwise, it will typically take you longer & more cash. You'll have to spend time re-learning previous skills that initially degrade very rapidly, as they are not yet engrained. Speaking of time...not really knowing your personal situation & the weather where you're at...but starting in the fall can be more difficult as you do not have the benefit of longer days (to fly after work), and just like jumping, weather can delay your progress...again making it more expensive. Good luck...I mostly use my plane these days flying to diff DZ's to jump....very usefull.

So Josh...you coming as a big fairy???? Anyway, Alicia's with me....I just saw her in the hallway & was going to ask her to be my date for the Halloween thingy (cause the guy she was with last year needed a shave)....but then we had a fire drill.....then I couldn't find her....don't tell J. And, I volunteer to be a judge for the costume contest....so I can have all z women perform for me.... -

Looking forward to throwing your ass into the pool.....no wait a minute....I think I'll drink beer & watch someone else do it. I'll start with an opening offer of $10 to the person(s) who throws Josh in. -

Start AFF now or wait till spring?
flytex replied to RumBum's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Also, won't be any worse than some of your Scuba dives probably....speaking of which on the really cold days scuba gloves (if they are not too thick) work well. -

The advice seems pretty universal about starting now. I started Aug last year. You can get a lot of jumps in as long as the weather cooperates. Dress warm. There's fewer tandems, which can be good or bad. You don't have to fight so much to get on a load. But, sometimes they have to shut the aircraft down a little while in the winter until enough people get packed to make the load. Anyway, you know we can have some pretty nice days in the middle of the winter. There will be people jumping there with you...come on. -
Hey Ben...sorry I didn't get a chance Friday...but goodbye & good luck in Alaska. Thanks for all the lifts. Ok...sorry about the hijack Melissa..but nice meeting you Friday. Hopefully we'll get a chance to jump together soon. George
