Why would you want the L-bar risers instead of the 3-ring integrity risers? I'm guessing the L-bar risers are stronger but has there been problems with the large 3-rings (integrity) that would make the L-bar necessary? The 3-ring integrity risers sure seem nice for easily changing from one canopy to another.
  2. I did a search looking for the answer but couldn't find it. I've even looked through the FAA's site. I'm just curious. What is the CFR # that deals with air delivery. I know it's a CFR and it says, "delivering or retrieving a person or object by parachute, helicopter, or other airborne means...". I found that in a different thread in the forums here. But what section is it in? Parachute operations is CFR Part 105 but I didn't find it in there.
  3. Thanks! Yes, the trike is because I'm paralyzed. I use the trike when I paraglide. I just decided to hook up my BASE canopy to it! :)
  4. I posted this on Blinc but no one responded yet, so I figured I'd try here. I want to do some more d-bag jumps from my friends tandem paraglider (video) but wanted to get opinions on a few things. Due to road closures we are only able to launch from a lower launch site easily. This means I'd be releasing from the tandem somewhere between 250'-300' AGL. Maybe as low as 200' not sure quite yet, we'll have to fly it on a test run and see. I was planning on trying a few jumps at lower altitudes for fun anyway, previously I had done them slider up, no pilot chute from 900' and 1100'. I have had my paragliding harness strengthened substantially to withstand opening forces of a no-slider jump and I will be using a tailgate. The big question I have is if I should use a pilot chute or not? Also, how about using breakcord (overkill for 200'?) between the bridle attachment point and the d-bag? Does the pilot chute help deployment in anyway after the canopy has been extracted from the bag? I'm sure it does to a certain extent but is it worth the added complexity to use it for this kind of jump. I have all of 9 BASE jumps and two jumps from the paraglider. I used and will be using again a Fox 225 Vtech with covers. Thanks for the advice!
  5. I thought they were talking about the canopy on the right (NOT the Rock Dragon) and how there were pressurization waves in the inflation.
  6. How much of the difference between the two canopies it due to the fact that they are facing almost 180 degrees apart? Could their heading relative to the wind affect this?
  7. The reason I asked is becasue someone mentioned there was a severely overhung cliff near water there somewhere. Did I misunderstand that one? I didn't realize getting to the exit point was that difficult too. Oh well!
  8. Why masking tape instead of a tailgate? The only advantages I can see are the ability to put the tape higher (or lower) on the lines than the tailgate would allow due to the position of the tailgate loop. And maybe the fact that you can more precisely (tensions wise) stow the lines with tape? Is this true or am I missing something? How about slider down, tailgate or tape and why? Did I post this in the wrong place? I have a feeling I read this all somewhere else but didn't find it, sorry.
  9. Dumb questions...is it actually on Thanksgiving weekend? How many days is it (and what days)? I'd like to show up, maybe just to watch, shoot video, say hi to some people. Is there a cliff around there with a possible water landing?
  10. Thanks for all the info. The reason I'm asking (don't know if you've read it) I've been making some BASE jumps as a T3 complete para and have been trying to figure out how to land on the ground. For BASE I think there is a bit more worry on good body position right away for exit. What wing loading does he fly with in order to not break his legs or heels when he lands? Does he leave the braces at 60 degrees for landing as well? I've been doing all my jumps off of bridges and have been landing in the water. Could you PM me and give me his e-mail address or phone number so we could chat?
  11. Nick, If you used to work at BR and at one point was an instructor at Perris then I'm thinking of the right person. You were my instructor for my level 5 AFF I think, way back in '94 some time. Anyway, thanks and I look forward to meeting you at Bridge Day as well. Look for me, I'm the guy in the wheelchair!
  12. I am thinking about sponsors and am in the process or starting to look for some. As far as I'm concerned... I really don't care about terminology but to offend the least number of people disabled would probably be the best.
  13. What level para is he? Is he a complete or incomplete? How does he land?

    Russel Video

Climb above the twists, pull down some lines to get the canopy flying towards the water and....sploosh! Sounds easy but I'm sure it'll be hard to do if the need arises.
  15. The only problem with that is the exit. It's just got lots of "junk" out there for lines or what not to get caught on. And my guess is that it won't stay stable in freefall. That's why I did a d-bag jump from the paraglider. No freefall for things to go terribly wrong.
  16. Some people have given me ideas for other objects but haven't given it much thought yet. In the near future I will start picking people's brains. The next step is finding a good way for me to land on solid ground instead of just the water.
  17. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that helped out this weekend. It always seems to be a chore for me to get one jump in. Getting my wheelchair down to the bottom and towels and an extra body on the boat (bbbrrrrrr the water's cold!!!). I really couldn't have made those jumps without the help of so many, especially Tom. From pretty much spending the entire weekend with me either packing, cooking dinner or building our little jungle gym (power tools rule!). I had an amazing time this past weekend. I loved the visuals from the full floater and the feeling of freefall again. Man that delay was sweet. It was really cool hanging on the bar and looking down before letting go. I'm sure I'll be seeing many of you around more often. I'll be at Bridge Day again this year. Hopefully this year I won't be going AFF style but we'll see. Thanks again! P.S. I shot quite a bit of video this past weekend. Mostly on Saturday and Sunday (the days I didn't jump). If you jumped either of those days and want the video I can take a look for you. Only when I get my charger back though. :)
