  1. Dude...get KMonster to drive next time!
  2. I had to recruit several people to help build and install a platform so I could push (and eventually drop) myself off. Oh wait, that's every jump so far.
  3. I've heard a good, swift, poke to the a$$ with a Turkey baster gets their wings going pretty quick. Although that might be hard to do once you've already pitched.
  4. For me it should read, "Barring the DoD's (Department of Defense) actual budget being what Bush has proposed, I plan to be in TF for both Memorial Day and Labor Day this year." Damn government jobs! Ah, what the hell, I'll be there no matter what! Look forward to seeing you again!
  5. Ooooohhhh, this looks cool! I couldn't jump it but someone else...? Too bad it's in a park! 420', 0-120 in 4 sec., 90 degree twist going up, 270 degree twist going down.

    My First BASE Rig

If one were to buy a new canopy and had the extra money would you suggest buying a canopy with the multi? Once the canopy is made (without a multi) you can't get the multi put on it. But if it's on you can always just not use it. Any thoughts on that?
  7. After about 300 scuba dives I gave up on log books in general. That's one reason why after over 250 skydives I still only have my A license.
  8. Seeing how this is the sugeestion and feedback section I presume I can just make a suggestion here or do I need to send a PM to someone in particular?
  9. Sorry, I should have done a search...I didn't. Thanks for the info. I just really like that LOL animated gif. I think it's freakin' hilarious! Maybe that option should be removed from the mark-up help section as stated in the thread linked above.
  10. how do you get an inline animated gif to work? I've attached the file and added "inline filename.gif" (with the square brackets, no quotes). When i hit the "preview post" button it all works but when i actually post it doesn't. I'll try it here. [inline uglylol.gif]
  11. Ahh, true very true! Just like my paraglider jumps. What the hell are they? Whatever they are, they're fun!
  12. I've read about "lockout" but never really understood it exactly. I've seen the results of it though, not pretty. When people are towed they do have a cutaway system like our three rings release (almost exactly like it actually). I've heard several stories about people having hard cutaways when getting "locked out" just like we have on high performance skydiving canopies.
  13. Being that lightly loaded is a bad thing. When I do these jumps we always do it in calm conditions at the end of the day. Even in the calm conditions it is still dangerous. He's (the tandem pilot) just accepted that risk. It doesn't hurt that he has over a thousand flights as well. There's more too...trim of the glider before and after jump, using different risers for the jump, etc.
  14. It can and has been done by me and several others here but... From what it sounds like you AND your friend have no paragliding experience. If you're jumping off and leaving him alone on a tandem wing, he will be underloading the tandem. This would be a bad place to be with no paragliding experience. Also towing a paraglider behind a snow mobile (or anything for that matter) MUST be done using a winch system. You can't just tie a rope to the back and tow up. Towing anything with a static line (one that doesn't pay out slack) is very dangerous and several people have been hurt and killed doing this. (those with towing experience please chime in here!) I would suggest going out and finding some local paraglider pilots and talking to them about all this first. I'd bet that you could probably convince a local tandem instructor to take you up for free so you could jump off. Edit to add: See what Treejumps said above. That is why you can't tow using a static line.
  15. Pretty much none. I'll be jumping something bigger anyway. Ooh, I don't think that would be a good idea. My bones break really easily and without a PLF I'd end up with my face in the ground. Granted that'd be funny to see but that is part of me I CAN feel.
  16. For the rollover I was thinking about just getting a piggy back on the other person. I wasn't thinking about sitting on their shoulders. The problem with going piggy back is that I'd be laying on their rig. For Bridge Day '05 someone has offered to do a rodeo type jump. Again this would be piggy back I suppose.
  17. I'm saving that one for Bridge Day '05.
  18. No rig, about 120-125 lbs. I'm light!
  19. I've thought of stuff like that.
  20. The canopy is but the harness wouldn't be.
  21. I think it would be possible the way you mentioned. Although I'd like to try to stick with actual BASE gear if possible. That way I think I'd feel like I really earned my BASE number. I'd like to do it the same way everyone else does, as close as possible at least. I don't know. Is it considered a BASE jump if you don't use BASE gear? Hmm. Edit to add: It would solve my ground landing dilemma I have right now.
  22. Thanks for the temp location and trimming it all. I'm at work right now and that's all I could do. I made them using Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard maybe that's why you're getting an error. I think I saved it as 5.0 though.
  23. Was he actually flying or just kiting like these guys? If he was flying then I guess I could see that. These guys were kiting on flat ground. There's no way they could have launched.
  24. This was an article from a paragliding magazine I get. Apparently six paraglider pilots were practicing their kiting skills in the Valley and were cited. The story says they were asked several times if they were BASE jumpers. Here's a quote from the article. "Then the ranger wanted to know if we were parachutists or BASE jumpers. His demeanor quickly became threatening..." Sorry for 3 pages. One file was too big to upload.
