i dont trust BASE jumpers who dont like that feeling. there is something wrong with that.

if your alone or the last one off, you cant do a Direct-Bag, (dbag), i have thought of ways you could do it, but i dont want to test them. your not ignorant, i should have specified direct bag, not dbag. if you object is cliff, of abandind A, or bridge, or even building, i would say just leave the dbag there, and retreive it afterward. or have GC do the dbag, and then rap down, etc. I hope no one will freefall what you are SLing! again, if the no pc method works for you, i have no problem with it. the original post was asking for other jumper input, i gave mine. so, in my personal little jumping world, that is very different from a lot of other peoples, i would never do it. 9' or longer bridal, with a PC sized correctly. actualy, PCAs and SLs are only in desperation, and i would prefer a dbag. I also agree that i like the way my blackjack flys without a bridal.

i still feel it. i think that i have consienceiouselerly (sp?) told my body not to get used to it. i am at the point that i am not afraid of that feeling in OH SHIT! sense, but i love the feeling. I have fealt it more paragliding than i have in BASE. doing acro under a wing, the parabolas you can get, its great.

im just being sarcastic with all of this... if i ever teach SLs (and i wouldnt, i see no point in jumping something you cant freefall) the PC will be ATTATCHED. period. but, if some see the need, or they are geographicaly limited for exits, then go for it, short bridal no PC SLs, or SL on bridal/canopy connection. but i STILL SAY DO A FREAKING DBAG. but this is a free sport. and it should remain that way.

There's a reason for that. It all depends when the break happens. The only premature break I'm aware of, the canopy was just being extracted when the break cord busted. The Pilot chute took over and saved the day. there was (is ???) video on sdmovies of a SL antenna jump where the SL breaks (no idea how it was rigged) right after exit - and the PC extracts the canopy (i *think* it was a jump in S. America). I don't see how that would of been survivable without the PC. I know of one case in which a similar premature break (with no PC) was survived, very early on. I believe that the jumper actually flailed enough to elbow the canopy out (either that or he flopped around enough that it fell out to one side--depends on if you believed the jumper or the others watching), got partial inflation, and survived the impact. ok... for our FJC leaders out there, when teaching PC-less 150' Static line jumps where you need to clear a fence and trees by a small amount, remember to tell students to be ready to flail around as soon as they exit, it could save their life.

no it didnt. skydiving came first. people were jumping out of airplanes in the 5th century. duh. and i agree, it never has, and PROBABLY never will happen. but lets go tell the guvment that and see what they think. one reason they say aireal delivery is illegal in NPs is that we might kill someone by hitting them. Hiking and climbing re 1,000,000 times more likely to cause a civilian injury than a BASE jumper.

on the same note... i have done some SkiBASE jumping with a older HD camera and a HUGE FREAKING LENSE. it was for a production crew, we got 'paid' to do it. and we had to use their 'professional' cameras on our helmets. the camera itself was bigger than a normal video cam, and the lense must have been 4 lbs. and it was sticking out 6" in front of our helmets. and still... double backflips were performed... slider down BASE openings as well. i think a persons neck can take a lot. as long as they are ready for it.

i thought this was going to be a poll you pussy. I agree, but nate, man, 100' is still possible to free fall and live. even at 80 SLs take a pc. make it a big one.

my dearest sister has posted some things here like her 'Tao, and the art of jumping off cliffs' essay. she also is an extremely tallented artist. here is some of her stuff. (only 1% of here work is BASE related) the B/W is a tribute to Clint Ford, a BASE jumper who died in an airplane crash in moab. the Wingsuit/butterfly is prepping for a wingsuit skydive, and the final wingsuit abstract is a really scary close call off a 2000' A. i kinda manage selling her stuff... i dont know if anyone is interested. PM me if so.

personaly, i think its horrible idea. like, really horrible. moab's only fatality written all over it. i still dont see whats wrong with a dbag. its the same thing. better heading performance, faster opening speed, more reliable, no bridal at all...

we have to look at it from the law peoples point of view. there is 200 pounds worth of meat and plastic going 120 mph at a street full of people, and parachutes dont always work terribly well.

um.... i thinks its kind of a lord of the rings movie set kind of things. but the sculpture looks like it is going to be super cool. i say you put it somewhere like on the edge of a building in your fav city... bolt it down. ask no one. I leave a hell of lot more in cities than footprints, thats for sure.

www.whitehawkppg.com OK, so now that this thread is officialy the "sports besides BASE that are as cool or BETTER!!!" all you jumpers out there need to check out PPG, especialy the way Boyd and Robert are teaching it [the link above]. they teach in Co, and it is some of the coolest stuff i have ever seen. emagine being able to swoop for 20 minutes, dragging a toe in the pond for 500', or just climning up, looking around, 'sky putting'. even though i have not been able to fly [for more than about 1.5 seconds], this is an amazing sport. and electric is on its way.... check the pics i took of the whitehawk crew flying a few weekends ago at the local DZ! and def check them out on the website. dragging a wingtip and a toe in the water!!!! dont let the look fool you, these things are FAST...

I agree. I think it would be great, and really fucking entertaining to pack every BASE jumper in these forums into a big room for a week. and see what happens.
