  1. I think its similar for me also. I want to be able to prove to them that this isn't a short-term thing. proving my friends and family wrong is the best feeling - next to skydiving of course Jennifer Arianna Frances
  2. ugh! Just got off the phone with yet another 'friend' that doesn't understand. I have a history of not following through with stuff, but not for lack of exploring all the 'easiest' ways of doing them. My motto was "if at first you don't succeed try again, if you fail again - at least you tried twice". And unfortunately this is something that my friends and family have witnessed lately. I get on a kick to do something... This past year it was my weight loss kick (which has worked), and exercise kick - resulting in large purchases such as roller blades, multiple exercise videos, bicycles and running shoes. I haven't really used them. Instead I've been using the free gym at my work. This is something my 'friend' has witnessed. I've been pretty cautious about who I tell about my skydiving - becuase I've never felt this way about any of my other 'kicks' before. I can't stop thinking about it, all the time, no lie... I'll be on the treadmill at work and realize that twenty minutes has gone by, that I didn't remember becuase I spent all that time thinking of skydiving.... anyway... I tell this 'friend' about my skydiving and how I'm starting AFF on friday. I try to get her to come with me and do a tandem (my AFF program is tandem progression). She laughs at me! Telling me something along the lines of 'how long is this going to last', 'how much money are you sinking into this one' and the ever reoccuring 'what would motivate you...' It got me thinking. Not so much that I shouldn't bother, because this is too ingrained in my brain to stop now, but what motivates me to do this. I love scary movies, and a 'cheap' thrill. I always thought diving would be 'cool', but didn't give much thought to it until my brother mentioned it this summer. I figured I needed to do something special to recognize the 35 lbs. I'd lost and decided to go for it. What continues to motivate me? The 'feeling' of utter invincability, if only for a few seconds. Being able to experience what I see out a plane window.... But then again, they don't really understand that part... so I keep fielding the stares and blank expressions from my family, friends and coworkers. Makes me feel I should hide in 'the closet' about my new obsession ... but I get the feeling that this 'feeling' will never fade, so how can I give it up? Why would anyone want to give it up? Well... this got a little bit long didn't it. So what motivates you to continue? Jennifer Arianna Frances
  3. hehe - my husband will want to move there now! I'm not far in RI, but my husband has been a registered libertarian for 5 years and longs to see stuff like this. Thanks for the heads up! Jennifer Arianna Frances
  4. Howdy! I'm just starting my AFF so I can fully understand what you're going through! ha! Great isn't it? I was just on vacation in AZ (I'm from RI), and I spent the entire time looking out windows at the beautiful blue (cloudless) sky; cause of course its raining here... again. Enjoy the rest of your training! Jennifer Arianna Frances
  5. Cool! Another great improvement with OS X! I gotta get outta OS 9 now..... Thanks for the heads up! Jennifer Arianna Frances

  8. Limp Bizkit's new CD - results may vary Jennifer Arianna Frances
  9. oohhhhh - good luck! I know how nerve racking interviews can be - how cool to possibly be working in NYC though. Always something going on there.... you'll only be about 5 hours from me in Providence!! >>>> Jennifer Arianna Frances
  10. WAAAHHH I'll cry for you, cause if its snowing where you are.... its gonna be snowing here soon! Jennifer Arianna Frances
  11. I was a vegetarian for 8 years and did ALOT of research on food during that time. I did not eat jell-o or gummie candies becuase they are made from gelatin, which is made from the LINING of pigs stomachs - no hooves or anus' or anything else. Thats what SPAM is made of Jennifer Arianna Frances
  12. I'm so insanely jealous of all of you. I just got back from 5 glorious days in Tucson (I'm comparing it to heaven, it was that awesome). The weather was clear (unlike Fresno, CA another 'desert like' area I frequently visit; and I say desert as compared to my Rhode Island), and warm - the layout of the city is so different than the northeast. I was so impressed by the entire city. No lie, the 5 days I was there I could count the number of clouds in the sky on one hand! I tried to convince hubby to take me up to one of the 3 DZ in the area, but we were there to visit family and he was not too happy about that idea. It was all I could think about! So now I'm working on getting him to try looking for work out there, because I step off the plane back in Providence and its raining - AGAIN. Sometimes I hate new england.... our longest winter in recent memory, our rain drenched spring, non-existant summer and now rainy start to fall.... So - to those of you in AZ - get out there and enjoy it! If not for yourself, do it for me Jennifer ....who is missing all that sun already.... Arianna Frances
  13. Hellz ya! My thoughts exactly! Jennifer Arianna Frances
  14. ooh ya! My turn to get technical QT actually refers to an interval used by the medical community to characterise the various phases of a heart beat. The duration of the QT-interval is a measure of the time required for depolarization and repolarization to occur. In long QT syndrome, the duration of repolarization is longer than normal. Thus, the QT-interval is prolonged. An interval above 440 milliseconds (msec) is considered prolonged. QT-prolongation in is due to overload of myocardial cells with positively charged ions during ventricular repolarization. Confusing enough? Jennifer Arianna Frances
  15. woah - really? Ya, my father-in-law booked them over the 'net... how would I go about it? I already called them and they said no. Arianna Frances
  16. That'd be nice eh? They're southwest airline tix, so no changes. We tried already LOL oh well... guess I'll have to put up with not having the dishes done Arianna Frances
  17. I'm jumping on a plane to travel to AZ tomorrow morning. I've been so busy with work/school/life that I haven't had time to pack. The cats ran out of food and I didn't have a dress for the wedding we're going to.... so I spent the last 3 hours shopping (which I hate to do). I get Taco Bell for dinner, and am now home. If I don't do laundry I'll have nothing to pack, and the dishes have been sitting int he sink for a week - I can't even tell I have a kitchen table, and hubby (who has his own consulting biz) is at a clients ALL night long. So I decide to do the dishes... have to take the dishes out of the sink in order to fill it with water, and as I'm doing this the cats distract me and my BIGGEST carving knife falls from the sink to the floor - on my foot to be exact, but lands in such a way as to catch the lining of my SANDAL and narrowly misses my little kitty. I think this is a sign. Hubby doens't want to go (doesn't like his family) and with all this stuff to be done in order to go I'm thinking it'd be worth it to just stay home! LOL What do you think? Too bad the tix were a gift - cause his dad knows he won't get us out there otherwise Jennifer Arianna Frances
  18. After speaking to my doctor - he agreed to sign a letter stating that there is no physical reason why I can not participate. As a matter of fact, after I presented him with the 30+ pages of information I had gathered, he chuckled and said he wasn't worried about the device or leads at all. What he is worried about is the underlying condition for the device, long qt Syndrome , which I was thankfully able to discuss rationally and we both agreed that with an AAD (which I'd have with a student rig, and plan on purchasing when I have my own rig) I would be just as covered as someone without long qt. Thanks again for everyone's help - the G-Force answers got technical but I learned alot and appreciated you all taking the time to explain it to me. I can 'offically' skydive, and look forward to doing it with some of you soon! Jennifer Arianna Frances
  19. ha! was waiting for someone to say something like that. I've been doing yoga for a while now, and some of the more mild positions don't look so intimidating now. Jennifer Arianna Frances
  20. hmmm.... Didn't think of that.... you'd have to be in an arch constantly with that though wouldn't you? not too 'fun'.... but... We'll have to see what my dr. says this afternoon. Jennifer Arianna Frances
