  1. If you want to go bat shit crazy speculative, invest in some Tesla and Solar City now that they will soon be removed from the government teat.
  2. Fracking has produced more jobs for less cost at a greater benefit.
  3. +1 "Nevada has agreed to provide Tesla with $1.3 billion in incentives to help build a massive battery factory near Reno." I must have missed the report of Pennsylvania providing Range Resources with $1.3 billion to develop Marcellus shale gas.
  4. It is much more Bush/Obama than Trump, alternative facts not withstanding.
  5. No the doucheness come in when one bad mouths "big oil" and " big truck." To continue your airport analogy; it would be like some glider guys showing up to the airport with a solar powered ground launch, and talking smack to the skydivers who pay for tank after tank of 100LL
  6. Persons (which of course include corporations) who take public money and then badmouth the entities which provide that money, do have a certain amount of doucheyness. Tesla, Leaf and Volt drivers travel on the roads paid for by "big truck" drivers, while not contributing to the funding mechanism which pay for those roads. SpaceX, First Solar and Tesla (the company) are subsidized by the taxes paid by "big oil." A classic example of makers vs. takers (with a tincture of douche).
  7. Exxon can't have very good tax breaks when they pay more than $30 billion a year in corporate income tax. How many billions did Tesla, First Solar, and SpaceX pay? How much do you contribute to the highway fund through fuel taxes My guess is somewhere around ZERO, but feel free to set me straight.
  8. It ain't exactly freedom, when the big truck guys are helping you afford your toy.
  9. http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-hy-musk-subsidies-20150531-story.html The figure compiled by The Times comprises a variety of government incentives, including grants, tax breaks, factory construction, discounted loans and environmental credits that Tesla can sell. It also includes tax credits and rebates to buyers of solar panels and electric cars. One reason Tesla cares so much about California's air The electric automaker Tesla has a side business. It's called environmental credits. A looming question is whether the companies are moving toward self-sufficiency — as Dolev believes — and whether they can slash development costs before the public largesse ends. Tesla and SolarCity continue to report net losses after a decade in business"
  10. I think you have it backwards, Exxon paid taxes, Musk got subsidies.
  11. You accuse me of back pedaling, I don't think you know what it means. I said that fossil fuels contributed more to the country than renewables you took the opposite position, I proved it, you have not. I will give you an "A" for obfuscation and goal poll movement though. By all means continue to flail away.
  12. The difference being, net net, big oil adds 100 billion+ to federal and state coffers, while solar is a drain. Still waiting for my math lesson.
  13. Sound just like a "big oil" subsidy. Any tax break going to fossil fuel companies goes right back to the people in the form of cheaper energy prices, dividends, and salaries, the corporation gets nothing. I realize this is a tough concept for you to grasp. BTW still waiting for you guys to get all mathy on me.
  14. Oh? Please show us your work. LET'S GET MATHY, PEOPLE! Still waiting for you to get mathy. Let me help you get started. Elon Musk and co. Took more than four billion from the government in 2015 while Exon/Mobile gave the government more than thirty billion. Better sharpen those pencils. LET'S GET MATHY!
  15. Thanks for the recommendation. Just bought a Gourmia for my girlfriend. It arrives Monday and yes that gift might be a little self-serving. I know what you mean, my wife got mine. For a first try I would recommend pork chops. Fairly quick, perfectly cooked and super juicy.
  16. No more than 30 minutes for fish. Pork chops and steaks no more than two hours. Sous vide and sear, best steaks and pork chops ever.
  17. +1 I don't understand why we have a parallel healthcare system for veterans. We don't have a parallel education system for vets. I think a G.I. Bill for healthcare would be a much better system. The VA should limit itself to providing care to uniquely battlefield related ailments.
  18. It's about time we move from science denying leftist dogma, to rational data based decision making.
  19. Of all of the posters on this thread, how many of you are even veterans? Roll call! I am and I know "my existence while grotesque and incomprehensible, to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall! You use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something, you use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination, to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I'd rather you just say 'thank you' and go on your way."
  20. According to NPR, this sort of communication pause is common during transitions. Middle management puts things on hold until they get on the same sheet of music as the political appointees. If it continues after the appointed staff is in place that is a different matter. I know it might offend some people that NASA's mission may shift from telling Muslims how awesome they are and climate change, back to space exploration but as Obama said, elections have consequences.
