  1. Hi Brad, I just got my Coach rating in Feb of this year, and while many of the answers you've gotten are true and valid the one thing I would suggest is learning to become an actor. You will be teaching "students" that happen to have 5000 (or more) jumps. Pay VERY close attention to gear/equipment checks. Study the "rule of three's" and DO NOT allow your student to distract you...cuz they're gonna try! I only have 900 jumps, and my "student" has 10,000 and I was (and am) a bit it awe of the guy, so the tough part for me was treating this Legend like a Cat. G or F student. The whole course is geared towards the AFF program, so if you 182 Dropzone is like mine, (we do Tandem and S/L)...Bone up on the AFF progression. Your flying skills will be tested, but not too extreme. You may encounter a backslide, a weak arch or loss of altitude awareness...or all three! Relax, be kind and fun and you'll do just great! __________________________________________________
  2. a few years ago in Boise we put out a test drop dummy with a reserve that had been packed and sealed for 50 years (yes, fifity!) It worked fine. Silk canopy, cotton harness/container--low speed deployment though. "You can learn a lot from a Dummy" __________________________________________________
  3. Well, you said it all when you said "Tony Suit"! I had a "TS" that didn't fit well (not Tony's fault, the dealer botched it) and Tony took it back, built me a new one...in all it cost me $18.00 (2nd day shipping) and two weeks. Tony Suits ROCK!!! __________________________________________________
  4. Fantastic! Simply fantastic! I haven't been able to put it down. So much information, in a very easy to read format. Can't wait to attend a seminar! Thank you Brian!
  5. What in the world happened to your canopy? It looks like it's starting to spoil! Looks cool Joe, you know I'm only funnin' ya, cuz yer slow...
  6. I pack a PD160R into one of my J-1's (said to only hold a 143) and a PD176R in the other J-1...they fit fine!
  7. Very good idea. The trim never entered my mind, but, as with all things made by hand. I'll head over to the DZ and perform the check...as you said, it's a good use of down time. I will keep you posted. Greg
  8. Yeah TimDave, I do PRO pack. As for trim, well it's a brand new canopy...custom. I have been leaving the nose completely alone, but have been drawing the slider (the front 1/4) to the front of the pack. As it sits now, waiting for a weather break (Oregon is in deep winter "doo doo" as I write) the slider is entirely internal. I also only wrapped the tail enough to get the bundle on the floor, where as before I sorta restrained it "Stiletto" fashion. I'm sure it's something I'm doing...just don't know what...yet. I do know that I'm tired of needing a calender instead of altimeter during deployment. Thanks so much for you time and help. Greg
  9. Thanks TimDave, some honest help is all I asked for. I reviewed video of the deployment several times tonight, and the canopy DOES NOT develop as one might expect. It's like a hung slider, then some inflation of the outer cells...then they deflate. eventually the cells on either side of center inflate, thus drawing the center taught so it too can inflate...bizzar. As for my "Old canopies" I've had 2 Sabres, a Hornet, and also have a Stiletto. Just for the record, with a 3500' pitch on the Hornet, you'ld be in the saddle at 3450...I do mean WHAM!
  10. Do you have a neptune? Or any other electronic device that tells you canopy deployment altitude? ______________________________________________________ Yes, I use a Skytronic that has me in the saddle at 1700 to 1900 (after a pitch at 3500) on ten of the only ten jumps made on this canopy. As for the consideration that "That's called a malfunction" or "You have a streamer" I admit holding the Oh Shit handle on more than one of these jumps. The canopy does inflate, and you can tell it's going to open, it just takes forever. Might a smaller slider help?
  11. Hi Everyone. I need some help here...I have a new Sabre2 150 (loaded @ 1.3) and am getting snivels in the 1600- 1800 foot range. It also does the left/right "turn and seek" that have been mentioned here on numerous occasions, but it's the VERY slow inflation that has me puzzled. I do not fold, or stuff the nose and use the 525 micro line held with tube-sto's along with a ZP bag and 27" KL pilot. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Okay, here we go again...I never said copy of the Sabre2. and the first "Hornet" was Pioneer's, it was seven cells. PISA didn't release one til well AFTER the May 1990 Debut of PD's Sabre series. and finally, the eliptcal (if you can even call it that) shape is more "stop gap" than performance. Prove me wrong, I would appreciate the educational value.

Oh yes! If you find a good one get it. Even though they (Hornets) are no longer produced, Aerodyne Research supports them...fully.
  16. Just to reiterate what everyone else is correct in saying. Stay with a canopy in the 200+ category. The object of the game is to do it more than once...don't expect your experience to keep pace with your balls.

I had a Hornet 170 and I liked it very much, but still prefer a genuine Sabre to the copy.
  18. You are entitled to your opinion, and you are quite right. You don't understand. Anyway, it's over now. I don't have to deal with them, they don't have to deal with me...the world is a safe place for all once again. Last post, thanks everyone! You've all been a great help...oh, by the way...have I mentioned that PD ROCKS?!
  19. The exact same thing happened to me. I used PD's on line design form. Gave it to the dealer and the dealer transferred it to another form. Hence, my color scheme was quite off. Dealer denied wrong doing. After a few jumps, I sold it. Went to a different dealer and got what I wanted. I know your frustration/disappointment! __________________________________________________ Amen! Thank you Chief. I knew I couldn't be the only one this has happened to! (I didn't use PD's online order form though, I used another site's) The dealer has treated me like a piece of dirt, and just swept me aside. Fortunately I chose a very good manufacturer, and have gotten several serious offers for my canopy...and it's only been listed for 12 hours!
  20. Call Ralph!. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- that's a good solution for getting screwed all over again....i have not dealt with PEC before, but i have dealt with ralph and got the shaft.... __________________________________________________ That is EXACTLY why I went to PEC in the first place! I was trying to avoid "getting the shaft" again.
  21. There was a diagram, but it was not numbered. One simply clicked colors onto the drawing, and when that process was complete the "continue" button was clicked bringing up a new page where all the spaces slots and gaps had already been filled in... I am "dealing" with it. Thank you very much.
  22. I'm confused... PEC is a dealer but they dealt with another dealer? __________________________________________________ You're confused? You should be in my shoes! Right, PEC dealt with a "Sub Dealer" and when I asked why a simple phone call to me wasn't made to confirm everything, I was told "Our policy is to NOT call the customers of our sub dealers"... One phone call could have prevented this whole mess...Oh, by the way PD ROCKS!!!!!
  23. I'm truly sorry Lisa, and quite ashamed. Having just been told to "F$#k off" in a phone conversation with Warren, emotions were running on high. Please edit or delete anything you wish. Also, you can add PD ROCKS!
  24. Okay everyone, I need to make it clear that the order form I used WAS NOT Performance Designs. I used the canopy coloring program for a Sabre2 found on another dealer's website. I do not wish to have anyone mistake the fact that the form I used, although it said "SABRE2" on it, it wasn't from PD.
  25. That's bullshit and you know it Warren! Why is it so hard for you to just admit a mistake was made, and at least TRY to correct it? You act like a child every time a solution is offered...
