I guess the point is simple: No chute = instant gruesome death. Those that have survived these kind of situations have nothing but extremely good luck and a few circumstances working in their favor. I can't help but wonder if the style of the DZ has something to do with it. For example, some DZO's are trying to pay their mortgages and put their kids through school on jump tickets. Some have normal 8-5 Jobs and just want the dropzone to break even, and some keep the dropzone as a closed circuit economy. I'd bet this factors into it all as well.

Between the Van and Otter - it all just depends on the mood I'm in.

I agree 100% - Surviving a telescoping effect on a terminal feet-first landing is kinda silly, but there are enough documented cases (like during WWII) of airmen surviving miraculously in terminal impact situations. =========Shaun ==========

I'm not trying to be a Prophet of Doom, but I'd bet my bottom dollar that as Fuel Prices increase and larger Dropzones Sway under the weight of the 2 engines with the Otters, We'll probably start seeing more single turbines for the large, resort dropzones. To me, it's common sense. Cessna Is still pumping out a Caravan ever 16-18 Hours in Wichita, and many of the first generation 208's are becoming more affordable. Once again, I can't even begin to imagine complaining about the PAC when every weekend I play with a 182.

I just called the Dropzone, after flying a few loads of Students, we shut down and sent the pilot home. Bummer. Last week, in the same temperature, we flew some 15 loads..... BTW, are you gunna make it out sometime? We have some good events coming up this spring! =========Shaun ==========

Our DZ is open and jumping despite the high of 24 deg F for the day, but the runway is ploughed and we're going up. I'm calling it a day for me though. I love jumping in the cold, but I was up for a few hours last night tossing my cookies after eatting some chicken that wasn't prepared all the way. So, I may swing out later and help with the accounting, but I'm resting today. =========Shaun ==========

Are you in vet School? My ex's 4 roommates were all Vet students, and I studied with them all the time. It seemed to get hard for them in year 3 when they started rotations, and had to be on call at all ours of the night. What school do you go to? =========Shaun ==========

It's a harsh reality, isn't it? Soon other skydiving fee's will follow suite - Rigger charging more, higher costs for container and canopy systems, et cetera. I jump at a small club, we are concerned with breaking even and having a good time, and tickets are we had to raise our prices to $18 a pop. I think that we'll see more club dropzones in the near future. =========Shaun ==========
