  1. An AED is an Automated External Defibrillation device. It is the thing that shocks someone if they have no heartbeat and helps it get going. CPR by itself offers a one percent chance of survival and with the AED that goes up to 40 percent. YOu have to get a special ok to buy them and they are not cheap, but I think it would be a good thing for DZs to have. It does not take too much to get trained on them and it could save some lives. I got the idea cause I'm taking a First Aid / CPR class as an elective right now...what do you all think?
  2. I had a similar problem for about 10-15 jumps and then it started to fix itself. I had about the same wingloading on a 210 hornet. I figured I probably wasn't gonna get hurt too bad since I felt real comfortable doing PLFS. It just came naturrally after a while. Just be sure to flare a bunch up when you have altitude. I do remember thinking the same thing about worring about the landings...Now I jump a vengeance 150 and love it!
  3. I don't think you can really compare these two canopies sucessfully. I can tell you that the hornet has a lower max wing load ratio than a sabre or stilleto etc. I used to have a hornet 210 as I downsized, I tried hornets all the way down to 150. The 170 was about a 1.4 for me and it handled well, but the 150 was a 1.6 and I landed fine, but it seemed as though the canopy really didn't like all of my weight underneath it. I now fly a vengeance 150 and love it...hope that might contribute a bit...

  5. I don't wanna go...I just wanna live man.
  6. I landed my old Hornet 210 at 1.2 loading after a broken line no problem...
  7. You're absolutely right. I meant to put toggles.
  8. If the slider is the same size, but more of a dome shape, it'll slow down the opening quite a bit...or at least that is what I have found.
  9. I have heard that some if not all of these soft pillows have a more rigid grip underneath than that of the cutaway handle...anyone know for sure?
  10. I got a buddy in Corpus too and he jumps at Beaumont. He said it is pretty cool.
  11. My personal take on this is if you have plenty of altitude, then a toggle is preffered...but you have to be absolutely sure. A toggle should not be used to get a long swoop because it works towards taking the swoop away when it reduces your flare. When you use your front riser for a carving turn you will get an amazing amount of extra flare and swoop. A carving riser will also allow you to pull out and level the canopy with your risers if you have misjudged your landing where in a toggle turn you have already used part of the flare from the toggles to make the turn. That said, if you do want to land with your risers be sure to practice a bunch up top to see how they will react. Another thing to check if you plan to do riser turns is your steering line length. Be sure you have extra slack to prevent the canopy from bucking which could possible cause a partial deflation. I know most of this was already said, but I figured I'd put my couple words in. I hope I said it right, but please correct me if I didn't. blues ones...
  12. The hornet...it will nail ya if you don't watch it. I put about 200 jumps on my 210 and the first 50 were rough. After I decided to not roll the nose...just take it and shove it all the way to the tail. Some will say this is a bad idea for whatever reason, but it worked great for me and I always had 800 feet openings and no cutaways.
  13. I went to Quincy last year and loved it...they say there is a magic about it and I really think that is true. I have been to Skydive Chicago before and had a great time. I'm sure Summerfest is awesome, but The WFFC has just got something special.
  14. Even though this sport is a dangerous one, I often feel in more danger driving to the DZ than I do jumpinng out of a plane at 13,000 feet.
  15. Yea, I've talked to Jim (he said to call him bobo) and Liz Carnes about it. I told him I would get back to him as soon as I knew more.
