I contend that Trump never lied. In order to lie one must have a clue as to the difference between truth and falsehood, betwee reality and fantasy, and to actually care about it one way or another. I have seen not one shred of evidence that Trump views any of this as more than an unimportant abstraction. What people call 'lies' are simply the mental ramblings of someone disconnected from reality, blurted out without any kind of filter. As I understand it, the tradition of women's clothing being 'backwards' for right-handed people - buttons and now zippers - was based on the expectation that proper ladies were dressed by the servants. It seems that in upper class society the help was equally distributed between the men and women, but perhaps it harkens back to the era where corsets were popular and getting dressed for women was a near-death experience. Trying to parse out the norms of dress of various societies on the basis of sex can be a bit tough. Which are due to physiology and which are due to psychology can blur. In general, having a fly on trousers makes urination simpler for men, but has less benefit for women. Perhaps a skirt has a similar benefit for women, and menstruation and breastfeeding aren't a major consideration for men. The hormones that show up at puberty are significantly different, and one overlooks the psychological impact of one or the other at their own peril. The ramifications of pregnancy differ greatly between males and females (men rarely die in childbirth, for example), and this reality factors into various social norms. In some societies women are removed from the equation as much as possible on the tacit assumption that virile males want to fuck anything that moves, and anything stimulating will set them off. Thus you have the chador, the buibui and such so that any hint of femininity is kept entirely under wraps. In any event, the cut of clothing to accompany the anatomical differences between the sexes makes some sense, if only to address breasts, shoulder to pelvis ratio and so forth. Some of the most hetero females I have ever met have dressed like lumberjacks and they guys I've known to wear kilts were strictly breeders, so I don't see that attire has much impact in and of itself. I will not be the least bit surprised if China takes over Taiwan in response to Russia's incursion into Ukraine. Both Russia and China are braced for such repercussions as are likely, and both have the takeover of the respective territories amongst their agenda.

It seems Putin has been using the U. S. playbook for Iraq. I can't see how our harsh words and finger wagging will dissuade him from seeking his goals. In the 1930s Japan used U. S. rhetoric, pretty much verbatim, to justify their incursions into China, and were surprised that we didn't see them as kindred souls. They figured that we were cool with wiping out civilizations in order to take their land on the basis of our treatment of the people that were here when Europeans 'claimed' the land. Given our track record, I can't see where we have any moral standing to criticize Putin's actions, much though I personally disapprove. FWIW, I am on the record as having opposed the invasion of Iraq at the outset, and opposed our incursion into Afghanistan without a clear scope for the end game. Then again, that's how we do business. We can only hope that the invasion of Ukraine is as detrimental to Russia as was our invasion of Iraq. One advantage that Russia has is that it makes no pretense of being 'the good guys,' wearing white hats and all. They're the Russians, and they play by different rules. Whoever is running the show in Washington has been delusional so far - or hadn't done much homework at the very least. You don't put 130,000 assault troops fully equipped in position to invade as a bluff, and Moscow has been situating itself to weather any sanctions we might bring to bear. I am again grateful for twitter for keeping our last president's account active long enough to get him out of office. If his handlers had managed to keep a lid on his semi-coherent ramblings, we might have been stuck with the dumb sonofabitch for another four years. Having said that, it does not make his replacements one iota better. If you have to compare someone to him in order for them to look more competent, they are definitively fucked up. I can think of a long list of candidates that check the same demographic boxes as Harris, but are better qualified for the Oval Office by any measure. Oddly enough, I think the incumbent is at least as dishonest as was his predecessor. The previous guy said whatever crossed his mind without any kind of filter, with fact and fiction being simply abstractions. The incumbent, OTOH, has a track record of academic dishonesty, plagiarism and active misrepresentation that stretch back through his whole career. I'd be hard pressed to say who I find more loathsome, since each is beneath contempt in his own way. The Mormon who ran some time back would likely have been our best bet for averting the bankruptcy of the US of A. The previous officeholder has an unfortunate track record of profiting from the bankruptcy of the organizations he headed, and the U.S. Government is just another example. The incumbent is mathematically illiterate. One down side of electing people whose success has depended on a complete lack of integrity. Telling them that dishonesty is bad kinda rings hollow when it has been their stock in trade, and it has gotten them this far. Jimmy Carter is a wonderful guy, but was badly suited for the presidency. He was no less naïve than Ford, but both were as honest as you could hope for - Ford truly was an Eagle Scout, and lived his life by the Scout Oath. Ronald Reagan would have done well to study basic Accounting, History and Machiavelli. He didn't seem to grasp the fact the motivation determines the outcome, and that tasking wealthy people to do noble things with an influx of currency is not likely to work without carefully crafted caveats. The reference to Machiavelli is that, while people wail and moan about 'greed,' a competent politician will treat it as a force of nature and harness it the way a sailor uses the wind.
