  1. Thanks! what a great resource for skydivers.
  2. Hi, Welcome, our weather is not much better at our DZ in New Jersey. We hope to make a jump on the 23rd. Scottyb
  3. Hello, My husband and I recently started jumping. I had my first skydive dream after our second jump. We were both in the plane and I jumped out. My husband jumped right after me, but he didn't have a parachute. He grabbed ahold of me and down we went. I never pulled my canopy and, needless to say, the ground came up pretty fast. We literally HIT the ground, stood up (yes, we somehow survived) and started fighting because he made me fail the jump. I remember being really pissed at him. Another one I had was that we were at some sort of theme park with our instructors. There was an indoor mountain that you could skydive from. You had to run off the ledge and go deep into a dark valley between two mountains. It was beautiful...all lit up with red lights. There was a viewing balcony where I was standing while my husband took his jump. I was so terrified that I told my instructor that I just couldn't do it and I ran off crying. A while later I decided I wanted to take the jump and I had to search the park for my instructor and beg her to take me. I found her on a roller coaster. When we returned to the mountain we were informed that the attraction was closed. I begged and pleaded with the operator to let me take the jump and he finally gave in. I took the jump and it was as incredible as my first jump. We haven't been jumping lately (it's too cold) and I haven't had anymore dreams. However, I'm sure they'll start again once we take our next jump. The way I figure it, these dreams just allow me to take more jumps (free of charge) and I can get that amazing feeling even while I sleep. As long as we keep landing safely in my dreams, I'll keep jumping. Sincerely, Teri Bryan
  4. Hi! We're pretty new to skydiving and we're both diabetic. I wear a Minimed Insulin Pump and my husband does shots. Having diabetes shouldn't stop anyone from participating in such an incredible sport! When I told my doctor that I had started jumping, he told me he would love to try it. This spring or summer I hope to get him out for his first jump. The only thing we were worried about was having our blood sugar drop during the plane ride or the jump itself. To avoid this, we eat something (nothing big) without doing any insulin before we get on the plane. We'd rather do a little extra insulin once we safely land. Passing out at 13,500 is simply not an option. As for my pump, I usually disconnect it during the jump. I don't think my insurance company would pay another $14,000 to replace mine if something happened to the one I have. I can't imagine trying to explain to an insurance company that my pump was damaged while I was jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. Luckily, my husband and I are always at the drop zone together. We both know if one of us is having a low blood sugar and we react immediately. Also, a few of our instructors know we are diabetic and I wear a MedicAlert bracelet. I think we've got all our bases covered. As a matter of fact, the last time I jumped, my instructor made sure I took off my pump (I was so excited I almost forgot), locked it up for me, and made sure I put it back on as soon as I finished my jump. Just like you, we worry about having a low blood sugar while in the plane, but if it ever happens, we will just ride the plane back down. Our lives are more important than the money spent or the thrill of the jump. We'll grab a bite to eat and catch the next flight. The diabetes will never stop us from jumping! Sincerely, Teri Bryan

  7. Hi & welcome, My wife & I are working to our "A" also but I don't think we will ever get our 17 year old son to jump when he turns 18.
  8. Hi & welcome I lurk alot because I don't have a lot of time, but I do spend a lot of time reading posts when I can. Blue Skies, Scott & Teri
  9. Welcome, Enjoy the fourms We are also new, (5 jumps each
  10. My wife and I started in September 2002. 3 tandems and on to AFP, we are both on level III and are looking forward to getting some more jumps in the near future. The weather has been rough so we just missed our 30 day status so it looks like the refresher course for us.
  11. Today was a better day! I had to make a pickup for work about 20 miles from the DZ & I called to see if they were jumping students today and I got the answer I wanted. A small detour from the job and I was strapping a rig on
  12. Jimbo, Where is your DZ? We go out of Cross Keys NJ.
  13. My wife & I have done a few bungee jumps from a railroad bridge in Hometown Pa. a few years ago. At the time someone said bungee was better than skydiving. We didn't know because we had never been to the blue skies. Today I don't think you could pay us to do it when we can jump out of a perfectly good airplane
  14. Hey everyone, Today my wife and I had the day to ourselves (No kids)! So off we went to the DZ for our 2nd & 3rd AFP jumps. It was a beautiful blue sky with what we thought were mild winds. As we neared the DZ we saw four canopies floating to earth (that sight always gets me excited!) So we thought we would get our jumps in. WRONG! The DZ was on a "B" license hold because of the upper winds, ok we thought it's only noon and we were hopeful the winds would die down. We watched load after load of the B or better licensed jumpers go to 13,500 and enjoy the ride while we were "grounded" hopeful our turn would come. The load before the sunset load they called the names of the AFP students that were waiting all day and as the ground wind had died down I thought we would get one jump in, but the call was to inform us that we would not be jumping today. The way we look at it any day at the DZ talking to friends and getting to meet new ones is a good day. We stayed and had a few beers after the last load was down and wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving and we on our way. Our 30 day period is up on the Dec. 3rd so were a little bummed about it but we are going to try to cut out of work early Wed. to keep current
  15. We already had the beer run after our first aff jump. What's even better is we didn't have to buy! (there was still beer leftover in the keg from the halloween party at the DZ) Thanks for making us feel welcome, it truly is a family feeling we get from fellow skydivers. blue skies Scott & Teri
  16. Hi Michele & Everyone, This is Teri, Scott's wife. I gave Scott his first skydive as a birthday present. Who knew we'd love it so much. I think he was actually more into it than I was...until our first AFF jump. Our first 3 were tandem which were great, but this jump was absolutely incredible. I have never seen anything as beautiful as when I looked up and saw this ball of fabric over my head turn into a full canopy. After this site, I can't wait to do it again. I think I've caught skydive fever and I know now that I really don't want it to go away. Scott and I are thrilled to have found this sport and we are looking forward to doing it as we grow old together!
  17. Hello all, I have been checking out the posts and thought I should say Hi!! My wife and I are new to sport (started in September) and we just took and passed our first AFF jump yesterday, What a feeling neither one of us can wipe the smiles from our face!! We have a lot to learn and can't wait to jump again. We are going to try to get a couple more jumps in before winter really sets in on the east coast. We look forward to making many new friends here. Blue Skies
  18. 37, married 10 years and wife & I are taking our first AFP jump on the second, and can't wait.
