  1. Go Digital. Viso2 from l&b super easy to read/use. Some may say that analog is what students need to use but odds they are old timers. This is the future! digital is the way to go. I know i don't like having to tap an analog on my way to altitude so it "catches up".
  2. Picked up a vector made in Nov of 2013 it has loop coming from just below the reserve tray above the main bag. I talked to UPT about why they changed the location from the bottom flap. They said it was mainly for aesthetics. After a while the rigs with loops on the bottom flap would bend and crease where the reserves and main meet. Now with the loop coming right up from that point it keeps the rig from folding on itself and creasing/becoming disproportional.
  3. Skydive Santa Barbara in CA goes to 18k if the tandems on the load pay for it. They have a pretty badass caravan they do it in
  4. Probably has some roughh openings!
  5. Shaun at Skydive Long Island is the man. He's there usually every day there flying.
  6. Skydive Santa Barbara does 18k jumps with oxygen. Not sure if they required me to use it but it was provided for everyone. It's so so cold at 18 k wear gloves!
  7. This is why you jump with an RSL! m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0TXu6I5Cmw
  8. I would also look at someone funny for packing up a 300$ or less main into a brand new container they spent 3k on. That's not what I'm saying. But buying a main with minimal use that did not cost nearly as much as a new one that you eventually plan to downsize from and using it in a new container that fits you perfectly and has room to downsize sound like a good plan to me. (Why i did it myself) Perfect Fitting Container, Perfect Functioning Main), Room to downsize, Cheaperrrr.... Same reason a car from the early 2000s isn't as safe as a 2014 -More incidents/jumps for manufacturers to study and make improvements from -Advancements in Rig Materials -Advancements/Refinements in Rig Manufacturing Techniques -New Technological advancements like mad riser covers, skyhook, semi stow-less bags, main risers more resistant to hard cutaways during line twists etc... Not saying you can't take a rig from early 2000s and make thousands of jumps on it without incident. But the changes that container manufacturers have made from then to now aren't for nothing. They are revisions and refinements to older designs and techniques to make a safer, more reliable well built rig. Which would lead me to believe a rig made in 2014 will be safer to a novice jumper then one made years before it.
  9. I was in the same boat a few months ago. Bought a new AAD ( vigil ) for 20 years of skydiving fun to come! So I can swap it around to different rigs. Found a new container with 0 jumps and have "older" canopies I got for cheap. I say if you have the means$$$ go and buy new or near new. Especially something with skyhook and really freefly friendly. IDC what some people say a rig made in the early 2000s are not as safe as a one recently manufactured. If you have the dough there's no reason not to. But I would def try to find a deal on a nice condition rig before you go drop 3k on a shinny new container just for the sake of saving money.
  10. So I'm looking to see if anyone has any jumps in on the new icon pro by aerodyne!? I'm in the market for a new rig and no matter how much I want a vector 3, 36-38 weeks isn't sounding so good for me. Soooo I'm trying to se if anyone has some experience with the new icon container before I go and spend dumb dough on one. Thanks all!
  11. I purchased the viso 2 after I finished my aff and put about 30 or so jumps on it so far. Really easy to read during freefall and under canopy. A little confusing at first to access the log information it stores after each jump. After a few times playing around it's as easy as operating a cell phone or any other electronic device. Logs you exit alltitude deployment alltitude top speed during freefall and under canopy all very good to have for jump log info. Would recommend purchasing great deal and functionality for the price.
  12. Hello all I'm new to the DZ and have a few questions hopefully everyone can contribute to answering! I just started really jumping early this season and got my a license about a week ago. I'm in the market for a rig. Most of the jumps I have made so far have been on a 190 main and I can already say I'm wanting more under canopy. I'm right around 6'1 and weigh 185-190 lbs I have heard so many mixed view points on what to do about a first rig. Such as buy used and play around to see what containers and canopies you like to if you have the $ buy new you won't regret it. I have a nice chunk of change to drop on a rig and just wanted some more input from some experienced jumpers. What size main and reserve would best suit me 150-160-170? (stick with a 190)? Almost what brands do you have good experience with? What is hands down the most comfortable freefly container out there? And how would I size that for my personal specs? I know there are a couple websites like chuting star that have nice gear package deals and am not opposed to buyin all new. I just don't want to have to sacrifice comfort or what canopies would suit my needs best for a "deal" I found in the classifieds. Thanks in advance to anyone that responds for any help you can give me.
