  1. I wont pretend I'm refined or at the end of my learning; I just like to change it up once in a while. Like a gym routine... if you do the same thing every time it gets boring; throw in something new and BOOM... its like starting over. I'll toss those ideas out. I dont know what burble hopping is but I bet the guys there will... You are not the contents of your wallet.
  2. I disagree he could not sensory overload at 100 jumps. This is a new experience he had. He may have started to spin, lost spatial awareness, and gone all Z-out Like I said, I've seen it in excellent drivers on the racetrack. It happens sometimes... You are not the contents of your wallet.
  3. ...just don't forget to bring beer ;) You are not the contents of your wallet.
  4. OK guys, so my diving season is over for now (its cold up here) and am wondering where I should progress in tunnel training. Right now I have excellent arch, "fall rate" control, turns (including stable leg turns), swoop/dock, side slides, etc. I do not know Mantis flight. Anyhow, where should one go from here? I have learned to Barrel Roll but was not stable on my back. I like little challenges so wanted to try out Mantis style, but should I consider some back fly or sit fly? I still want time to maintain my belly skills but also want to spend some time trying something outside the box (pun intended) You are not the contents of your wallet.
  5. I'll admit I don't know where exactly in GA Ft Benning was. I know it was hot (June-Sept I was there), humid, lots of evil insects waiting to kill you, and I was in boot camp. Jumping back then was a different story since it was military static line from... good lord what did we jump at, 800-1000 feet? I sprained more ankles that month, and they still pop and crack when I walk. 10 degree wind in your face? Trust me, its not too bad... thats spring/fall here! Once you're out, it warms up fast anyhow... remember you're warming up 3.5 degrees every 5 seconds ;) My first jump I was shivering (or shaking from fear... not sure) and remember the cold blast followed by warmer... warmer... warmer... landed... soaked in sweat. I can not imagine what jumping in a Georgia summer would be like. If you like hot weather it must be amazing. Crisp air at altitude and steaming hot on the ground. 6. I could see a use like that, but not for pleasure skydiving.. You are not the contents of your wallet.
  7. CONGRATS! Another step learned, and forever to master :) We stop living and start dying when we stop being students of life. Your accomplishment should bring you pride. Everyone has been there in some way both in the sport and in any undertaking. The key is never giving up, ESPECIALLY when it seems the most difficult! You are not the contents of your wallet.
  8. SOOOOOOOX! anyhow now that my New England just came out... Welcome to the community. My only experience with GA is Ft Benning and that has kept me well out of that state since. That and the fire ants, man eating wasps, the clay I never got out of my combat boots... most things about GA actually ;) BUT, a good friend of mine went to medical school there and has nothing but great things to say about the area. At the end of the day... yeah... I'm just jealous that you can probably jump year round and right now I'm finishing chopping enough wood to keep warm through the winter. Damn you and your warm climate! :) You are not the contents of your wallet.
  9. Glad youre finding your place... you'll get there. Remember, in anything new there is a learning curve. It doesnt matter how fast you take it, just get to the top of it :) You are not the contents of your wallet.
  10. I can not agree more with this :) ^^^ You are not the contents of your wallet.
  11. I remind people that car accidents, shootings, and death from chronic preventable disease is so common it doesn't make the news. A skydive accident is SO uncommon that it hits CNN before we can post it in here ;) Over time, even the naysayers lose the ability. I showed them videos of my jumps and I'd get the "you're crazy... but that looks soooooo cooool". Or "You don't LOOK scared". Or even "you have so much more control than we thought". Sometimes I get the "why are you looking at your watch" or "what do you do if it doesn't open". Sometimes demystifying really helps. Hell, I lost about 1/2 the naysayers who didn't know we had come as far as an AAD and that even if I did nothing I'd end up with a reserve deploying. Explained FAA regulation, more gone. Went and brought a few to the DZ and more gone. People fear what they don't know. My wife did NOT support this until... damn probably yesterday! ha! But she finally watched the videos and some others and something clicked. Now she just wants to go to the DZ and meet some other non-jumping spouses and watch the pretty canopies come back to earth so elegantly. Don't give up :) You are not the contents of your wallet.
  12. Welcome to the place, Bob! I have lots of memories ranging from terror to the best time of my life. Strangely them terrifying ones was when I wasn't even outside the plane! Its a sport so unique that it will be a memory you never let go. Advice: listen and trust your instructors, spend a lot of time at the dz, and remember its all a big family. Nobody says you have to love your drunken pervert uncle.... But he is blood ;) You are not the contents of your wallet.
  13. Someplace warm.. thats all I can recommend. Warm. Jumping cold is something I haven't fallen in love with. My last 2 it was about 65 on the ground and mighty chilly hanging outside a C182 but the New England Fall foliage is something everyone should experience. Its BEAUTIFUL. 14. metal skydive related sounds legit to me :) You are not the contents of your wallet.
  15. I know I have to take a recurrence class at SNE in the spring if I don't jump. It isn't that inconvenient and... hey... its good bonding time with people I haven't seen all winter. If they tell me I have to start at step 1... I don't even really care as long as I can will myself out that door back to bliss. New ENgland can be as bad as the midwest: Weather can be awesome or a complete disaster... You are not the contents of your wallet.
  16. The only time I've come anything close to this much of an uncontrolled spin was in the tunnel when practicing barrel rolls and I've never been on my back. Tried to stop a spin by pointing feet and had to curl up and fall because I was pointing INTO the turn. Two rotations and was ok but I think that all things considered it wasnt the kind of forces that cause one to black out. I've never lost control in freefall but in the tunnel if I started getting wobbly I just took a breath and relaxed and arched and it stabilized. Level 6 I exited the C182 (what a new experience having jumped only the otter) and went for a tumble and same thing.. quick proper arch and I was belly down waiting for my front flips. My guess is that this jumper may have been sensory overloaded and continued whatever input he had... I throw this as a guess only because I have seen it in non-skydiving events where you lose control and just can't undo it. Auto racing this happens all the time and is a common cause for crashes. Yes ChrisD... the vast forrest out there does intimidate me much more than spinning out of control. I havent met Eli and I'm at the end of my season (weather bad, working too much) but next season I'll ask him. Or if I get him in the tunnel! Scary things happen when the variables increase. The sky and its aeronaut are wild variables. You are not the contents of your wallet.
  17. So if someone like me is nearly through my basic levels and about to be cleared for coach, and has NEVER been taught the "delta"... how (aside from being on here all the time) is one supposed to knwo this even exists? When I get to coach status I'll ask to learn, but if I never asked... then what? I can arch well (lots of tunnel time) but having another tool in the box doesnt hurt. Ever. This spin is scary. I dont like it one bit. You are not the contents of your wallet.
  18. yeah, I'll not clear to solo before end of year, probably end up doing another FJC. Its money but... hey... I guess hearing it twice cant hurt ;) Im just wondering how many levels they will make me redo... but hey, its only money and i'll at least be jumping i guess! 19. Oh... a G550 would not be a reasonable investment for a DZ. They live somewhere in the 30-40 million range with Twotters being more in the 1.5 million range. Its a good concept but... why? You are not the contents of your wallet.
  20. No offence but its gong to be a hardship at 16 because for many states that is not the age of majority. Nothing in New England will touch you. Most of the big DZ's are very specific. If you have a place 12 hours away all i can say is... maybe charter a small plane and have them fly you guys over ;) Will save a few hours! You are not the contents of your wallet.
  21. I'm not an ortho but I asked one... Basically the BEST thing you can do to prevent another dislocation is to aggressively do PT. Go back to ortho have them test your shoulder, if loose have MRI, consider surgery if there is something amiss (most shoulder surgery is relatively minor but will set you back a few weeks). But PT and strength training to overcome the unusual forces on the body is the best You are not the contents of your wallet.
  22. congrats, enjoy the sport Dont stress being weathered out, I feel like its a rite of passage at times :) You are not the contents of your wallet.
  23. I feel bad for the guys at SNE that have to deal with my rig that gets muddy and dirty as hell on every PLF landing... I'm glad it's not mine =D You are not the contents of your wallet.
  24. Seems that I'm hearing this somewhat frequently. Are AFFI's not teaching people to sweep their cutaway release cables? I was taught to and explained why. Also know there is another teaching of grabbing both handles, right pulling down, forward up, not clearing cables then left with idea that as long as proper sizing of the cutaway it will work. I still practice clearing cables and hope I'd I can't find silver for some reason there will be a working RSL ;) You are not the contents of your wallet.
