  1. such a beautiful way to start a life together :) You are not the contents of your wallet.
  2. Youre only 4 years away from jumping... If you pack for 4 years you'll certainly have a lot of friends at the DZ! You are not the contents of your wallet.
  3. Donating blood is truly lifesaving. Platelets are even harder to come by so those of us in the medical community thank you. I donate when I can because its the right thing to do. If the place will do platelets, I say take them away! You are not the contents of your wallet.
  4. Hey! If you quit smoking, guess what: you have done what is widely considered the hardest accomplishment of one's life You can do it, there are a lot of advantages. Your health and your wallet being the most pressing. 3 packs of cigs = 1 or so jumps. 10 packs in NYC would buy you a nice altimeter ;) You are not the contents of your wallet.
  5. Depends what you're in the mood for its fall so the foliage is great, you can also tear up the coast of MA to Newburyport (I work there, message me if you're in the area!), Portsmouth, even head upward to Maine. I like Portsmouth for its bars and nightlife, as well as some of the shopping. Boston itself is full of diversions, but you're looking to get away. You can take the train up to my home in Exeter area, which is a bit more rural but quaint (you take the Amtrak Down Easter, its about 1.5 hours), or you can take it to Portland ME as well. If you're into Lobster that's a good place to go (I'm vegan so its been a long time). Sport Related... SkyDive New England is about 2 hours from Boston, Pepperel is about 45 minutes and Skydive Orange is about an hour. The Wind Tunnel is just under an hour at SkyVenture oh, if you're in Boston there are also Whale Watches (I cant remember when peak season is), and this time of year Salem, MA really picks up for the museums and touristy stuff. 6. add another "check of threes" to the gear check... You are not the contents of your wallet.
  7. ^^^ underwear AND pants likely. Possibly shoes and socks. You are not the contents of your wallet.
  8. I read this before I started AFF, demystified a lot of stuff; it was WAY more than I need so far but its damn cool to see the physics (the amazement of which really makes me enjoy this process) I don't know the other book, but Germain has written gold in this one. Its also an eBook making it even better in terms of portability You are not the contents of your wallet.
  9. I'm a new diver but not new to aviation and I can say if the pilot has control of the plane, I'd land with him. A single engine out is hard to fly but with a lot of trim and attention its doable in most twin turboprops. I'd rather take my chances in the plane. You are not the contents of your wallet.
  10. Awesome! Got me doing some barrel rolls which was a huge help I can NOT back fly however so I'd just lay on the mat and do it but it made me get the concept of how to do it if I find myself inverted in the sky when I'm on my belly I'm not bad but boy, you guys who freefly (in or out of the tunnel) really do know your stuff... 12. You should seriously consider getting ear protection. I certainly did when my coaches allowed me to do so. The first few jumps I had a radio so this option was not available. Do a search on the forums on ear protection. There are lots of threads covering this and it's probably the lowest cost piece of gear you can purchase. I myself currently have a pair of Surefire Sonic Defenders, but I have also used standard foam ones. Both work fine, it's just a matter of preference. There will always been wind noise no matter open or closed face helmet. It's just a matter of how much you can reduce the noise. Save your ears!! My instructor said as soon as I'm cleared from radio to put plugs in. It will help a LOT. Anything extra would be fantastic though. Maybe plugs and a decent helmet. In my job I cant afford to not hear... and my tinnitus drives me bonkers at times. I use the surefire ones when I'm out at the shooting range. I love the fit, and not too pricey! 13. I'm into animal rights. What we do to animals is just unethical. My wife occasionally has eggs that our friends get from their pet chickens. They really are pets, the eggs are just bonuses in their minds As for b12 you can get your doc to give you shots if you're super low, otherwise we use sublingual b12 which isn't animal sourced (found it at our natural grocer) From a medical perspective (which I have some basic education in) plant based diets are actually much healthier. The whole "more protein, drink your milk" is propaganda from the respective industries and have no medical basis (more calcium doesn't improve bone growth, high protein diets are actually more toxic, carbs aren't as evil as we though, etc). I've read the research but nobody wants to listen. It's like telling smokers their habit is bad ;) I don't push the veganism though... I just give people the facts and they can decide. Itis better though You are not the contents of your wallet.
  14. Oh no I don't do anything in the tunnel without talking to my trainer there. I do a walk through of what I need and talk to them. I was glad who we started leg turns and slides to have him stop me from [mostly] crashing into the plexi I'm just trying to use the tunnel to get a feel for stuff before I have more to worry about (what landing pattern? What's today's pull altitude? Etc) Yes! Survived level 1-4 doing 5-7 this week. You are not the contents of your wallet.
  15. I think the wind tunnel is a family establishment You are not the contents of your wallet.
  16. Got most of hat though my slides need work (hit the glass a bit hard last time not realizing how fast you can go!) Going in a few hours... Fun for the rainy days :) You are not the contents of your wallet.
  17. Yikes... My plan is to fly low wing loading for a while. I don't need any metal. I have stainless steel wires and Dacron I my chest from heart surgery... That's enough You are not the contents of your wallet.
  18. Read that book and his transcending fear. Like them both. What is sofpidarf? I understand the consequences... That's why I'm trying to be safe. Looking at X-rays may make me second guess. It's like making a pilot watch airline crashes. You are not the contents of your wallet.
  19. Wow! That's great info! I'll just go and play around with turns and improved stability then. I was hoping to do a run through of level 5-7 since weather sucks. Maybe I'll just have them get me unstable a bit and see if I can correct it... De arch and recover or something... Well... While I have you... Anything I should ask them for (would ask my instructors but I will be at tunnel before dz) Also... To the other poster, I'll check those out! You are not the contents of your wallet.

  21. I'm a long... Long... Long way from cameras ;) I'll pick up a decent open helmet and some goggles. Found a used suit for 150 (rw suit). I'm waiting for a deal on a nice altimeter. That will get me started. And new shoes. That's kind of dive related and kind of "current ones about to die" :) Now I just wish it wasn't raining in my days off :/ You are not the contents of your wallet.
  22. I'm vegan, as is my wife (she's not a skydiver though) I'm appalled by the way people abuse animals for food so I just stopped. As a result I keep losing weight, my muscle mass increased, my fatty liver is normal, my cholesterol has never been lower, and my BP is perfect. I'm off all my meds other than a little B12 and some synthetic omega-3 (it's not from a fish or other animal source) I've never felt better in my life! Was vegetarian for 17 years and vegan for 3 (used to eat locally sourced eggs as my holdout) You are not the contents of your wallet.
  23. Which reminds me... Function of the booties? Friend of mine said get a "free fly" suit without booties and I wasn't sure what it all means. Our student suits have none... Do they help? Are there requirements in the states about full helmets? Maybe I'll buy an open one to start You are not the contents of your wallet.
  24. Hey guys, My AFF dives have been going well but I'm concerned about disorientation and ability to backflip. Its just not something I've ever done. I'm decent in a tunnel (stable, can move around without any difficulty, hand/arm/leg turns, etc) but am wondering if the increase in fall rate from a backflip is something a wind tunnel can tolerate? Or will I just come crashing down onto the "mat"? Wondering similarly about barrel rolls... I'd love to see how it feels to correct to belly down faster than hard arching, and its not something I want to practice during Level 5-7 since time is limited and a lot needs to be done to pass OK, thanks guys :) You are not the contents of your wallet.
  25. hahaha that is hilarious... how many people you think figured they were buying twitter and now are wondering "what the hell did I buy tweeter for?" You are not the contents of your wallet.
