  1. , Billions that the Red Cross paid out on Sandy? Your pulling numbers out of your ass. Billions as in millions. Ah. Millions as in thousands. I have done eleventy squillion jumps!! You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  2. That's the reason this thread's run as long as it has - the OP supposedly asked an open-ended question but has made it quite clear he feels that anything other than a straight couple by default can not offer a good family environment... Which, to be frank, is bullshit. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  3. The first ten seconds of that clip sound like the ultimate libertarians dream... Isn't freedom what 'Murica is all about? You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  4. 100 gay men? Unless you were managing a gay strip club then demographics would suggest you had a workforce of at least 1000 under you. How did you manage to get to know them all so well? (As an aside, it's amazing how many walks of life you have direct experience with that just happen to be relevant to whatever subject you're discussing at the time. You are a true goldmine of anecdotal evidence.) Now there's a good lot of guys that could raise kids, gay male strippers. I had 10 gays in one store. One day the store manger called me and told me to get down there as two of the guys were fist fighting in the salon. There were hair curlers all over the place and blood. The one guy was my top producer. I ended up sending one of the them to another shop. Again.... none that I knew then ever expressed any desire for family. My cousin who died of aids never did either and of course he probably wouldn't have made a good dad lying in bed with AIDS after what was reported to me by my sister who visited him in San Fran that just about everyone did him. Now all of a sudden the gay world wants to act like, well, the heterosexual world... conservative with family values, enough so to someday raise kids. Go ahead... get homosexuals in office and you'll have your way. What era are we talking about here? The constant reference to people dying from AIDS etc... sounds like the 80's to me, prior to retro-virals where you died pretty damn quick. I was in primary school then. I'm in my 30s now. Things change, man... this is not "all of a sudden". Incidentally, you mention the main focus on drugs, dancing, and getting laid amongst your former employees - sounds like damn near every early 20s kid I know, gay/straight/whatever... 5. For someone who keeps claiming the verdict is out, you make it pretty damn clear where your ideology lies.... OR you're a Grand Master Troll, who knows? You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  6. Would it hurt though? I've never believed in the slippery slope idea, since it didn't happen here after the gun buyback following the Port Arthur massacre. Cultural differences could/would be a significant factor in the eventual outcome, I'd wager though. ummm, the gun buy-back after the port arthur massacre is way past being a slippery slope. You're damm near at the bottom of the hill, now... Not a single mass shooting in Australia since then though... And I can still own guns if I want - revolvers, semi-auto pistols, rifles (not semi-auto or auto of course). There are just more stringent rules and regulations for me to do so. I guess my point about the slippery slope argument is that it's consistently trotted out as any measure of gun control being a precursor to a total gun ban. Didn't happen here, seventeen years on and counting. As I said though, it's a cultural difference. Farmers here still need and use rifles for day to day stuff, sports shooters still get to do their thing. The rest of us could generally care less. Sure there's criminals with guns, but in the overwhelming majority of cases they're just using them on other criminals. Things like the buybacks make a big difference though, which would never get approved as part of your budget by Congress, Plus all your existing weapons are grandfathered in, which takes the teeth out of any decent effort to reduce the total number of firearms out there. I guess I'm just becoming increasingly numb to each successive gun tragedy that occurs in the states, and numbness really shouldn't ever become an acceptable response... 8. Shhh, don't give him ideas. Next he'll be asking us what special names does the kid have to use for his parents... Is it Dad #1 and Dad #2? Which one's more important? Which one's the real daddy and which one's the mummy? How confusing will this be for the poor tike? Won't somebody please think of the children?? You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  9. My parents divorced when I was 1. Was my mother narcissistic for having the audacity to raise me on her own? It's not like there weren't any positive male role models in my life, they just didn't happen to be my "dad"... (caveat, I still saw my dad a couple times a year at least and we get on fine). The nuclear family as the norm is dead and gone. It's still a common model, but there's a whole lot of other family models out there now alongside it. Which is just peachy. ETA: Most American's haven't thought about gay marriage and adoption because it's "new"??? I'm on the other side of the fucking WORLD and I've lost count of the number of articles/editorials/etc I've read/watched from the US media.... 10. My FJC didn't exactly deal with this directly, but the emphasis with respect to EPs was to just forget about the canopy. Instructor was very clear on it didn't matter a damn thing what it was worth, if you gotta chop, chop, and someone on the ground will worry about where the canopy went. 12. Cheers, and yeah I will. I found out after landing and talking to a few of the guys (before the actual dislocation) that shoulders are a tricky one in this sport. It's been my focus since first talking to my Physio that I need it to be a lot stronger than it was before jumping again, and you can bet your ass I'll be strapping it as well. Oh and if I do stick around in the sport for a bit then I get all the fun of risking another dislocation thanks to someone else during B-rels... 14. . Well so many of you care what women want to do with their bodies as far as having kids or not, why not care about people raising kids? Like I said: right now it's all about gays getting married, but what are the consequences regarding kids. The advancement of medical science has put us in the conversation. One I didn't start. I care very much how people raise their kids (though at the end of the day, it's their kid, not mine). I'm still yet to see what exactly the parents sexuality has to do with the situation? 15. QUICK! THEY'RE COMING TO TAKE YOUR JERBS! I never get tired of that one.... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  16. Jarred it about 5 years ago coming off a wall when rock climbing. Hurt, but never bad enough to bother getting it looked at - if I bowled too long playing beach cricket it got a bit sore but that was it. Must've weakened it, then the way I reached back for the hackey in freefall it just caught the wind wrong. I'm a skinny bastard too so there's not a lot of muscle holding it all together... And yeah, if I'd gone up again I almost certainly would have popped it out in the air... Good thing I'm the cautious type! 17. Then what's the relevance of the parents sexuality in this argument? Shouldn't we all stop making babies then until all the existing kids are adopted? You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  18. Brisbane myself. Only got stage 1 knocked out, wrenched my shoulder in freefall doing my practise pulls thanks to an old minor injury that I didn't think was an issue. Landed uneventfully, cleared for stage 2. Was testing what range of movement I had an hour or so later (wasn't going up unless I was 100% confident in it) and it dislocated. That was 2 months ago, still don't have full range of movement back and it's nowhere near as strong as I'd like. Hopefully be good to jump in another month or so... 19. Oh my god! A young adult operating operating firearms in a controlled environment under professional supervision! She's even exercising trigger discipline and barrel control! Obviously they are training the next wave of school shooters! Oh the humanity! I'm pretty leftist when it comes to gun-control (aussie, so already have strict gun control anyway), but I was quite impressed with that video. She's clearly well-trained, and has a solid grasp on safety. My concern is gun owners who have neither. I know laws vary drastically in the US from state to state, is it mandatory as a rule to have a certain level of safety/weapons training before you get your gun? Or do you just sign your papers, pay your money then pick up your weapon? I'm not trying to start any sort of fight (I'm new here ), but I'm genuinely curious if there's ever going to be serious middle ground on the gun control debate somewhere between Cold Dead Hands and Ban ALL The Guns!!... I don't believe there are any rules on training for adults. Will a responsible FFL dealer sell a piece to someone that they know can't handle it? Don't know- never bought heat myself. Fair enough, cheers for that. Question for the gun enthusiasts on here then, would you support a certain minimum level of safety training as a qualifier for weapons ownership? 20. Toogz is good, that's where I started my AFF. There was a girl from the Goldy out at the same time (goes by Macca/Moose), not sure if she's finished all her stages yet but could be a carpool buddy down the line. 22. I'm not in the US, but here in Aus we got rid of our 1c and 2c pieces when I was a kid. I would also fully support the abolition of our 5c as well - I used to work for a company that processed cash/coin and those fuckers jammed up my machines like no other... 23. Further to that, this study (the longest running of its kind) found no significant disadvantages and more than a few advantages to being raised by same sex parents. The parents in this instance were all lesbian couples, not quite the exotic mix of the OPs example but relevant nonetheless. http://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/wp-content/uploads/nllfs-adolescents-with-lesbian-mothers-2012.pdf Overall, what research is there shows no inherent disadvantage to children of same-sex parents. With regards to the OPs suggestion of them potentially being the victims of bullying, doesn't that speak more to how society should grow up? 25. Close one, but still not the scariest one I've seen so far. This guy is the luckiest man I've ever seen. Some nice tips in here for when I'm healed enough to go back and finish AFF... :) You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
