  1. A BRIT base jumper whose parachute got snagged on rocks told bystanders he was calling his "wife" on his mobile before he plummeted to his death. Tourist Jake Simkins was making the jump on the Greek island of Zante when it went horribly wrong and he hit the cliff face. Witnesses to the tragedy on Friday said he then got stuck on rocks for three hours. Mr Simkins, thought to be 42, was reportedly on holiday with his pregnant partner. Dutch tourist Corne van der Eerden told the BBC: “We heard a flapping sound and saw what we thought was a guy sky-diving or parachuting. "He crashed into the wall - it looked to be about 60m high. "I shouted out to him and he said he thought he had broken his leg. He said he had his mobile phone on him and was going to call his wife. "I told him to be careful but he said he was going to hang on tight. Our boat arrived then, so my wife and I had to leave." Greek cops said he had been attempting the jump at a cliff over Navagio beach. Local police officer Siats Sotiros said Mr Simkins was stranded for three hours as emergency workers tried to rescue him but he fell to his death before they could reach him.
  2. Both my son and I did the AFF at FFU in May 2012 - we were treated extremely well, the emphasis is on safety and enjoyment - and you will progress as fast as is correct for you (dont rush it - learn and enjoy), do what you are instructed and you will have a real good time. We never felt unsafe! Also, staying in the student appartments is really great!
  3. Hi there - wher do you intend to jump? And where are you doing your AFF Course?
  4. mmmm - South Africans developed a process during th 70's that converts coal to petrol - called SASOL. Been supplying approx 30% of the SA petrol requirements since then.
  5. Sandals and socks are NOT a good look!
  6. Second the comment about the Kirby - expensive because they are ONLY sold new by door to door, (think commission for the rep!) but you can probably pick up a good second hand one in your local classifieds. Also, you can disconnect the brush if needed (if you buy second hand, get it serviced and ask the technician for a demo on how to use it!) - also, they do a "dry" shampoo which is pretty amazing.
  7. Hola Rodriguez, greetings from another newbiw, although I did the AFF. Yes, its amazing. All I can say is, the second days jumping is better than the first, the third day better than the second, and so on. And it is incredibly addictive!

  9. Hi all. Just back from 9 days at FFU - Madrid, where my son and I both completed our AFF, Matt (my son) completed all 10 consols and I (Ken) got 9 of my 10 consols completed. Both of us are seriously hooked, the only thing stopping the smiles wrapping around our heads are our ears!!! And planning a drive around of the 3 dz's that are within an hour of where I live (seriously spoilt for choice) as well as planning our next jumps! Blue skies to all.
