freebird 0 #1 February 25, 2002 What is the difference in a regular Javelin and a Javelin odyssey?Primarily the difference between the safety components of the containers. The longer you wait ........the more sense you get.
PhreeZone 15 #2 February 25, 2002 Almost the same container except the Odyssey has the wrap around laterals and more color/material choices. Plus it comes standerd with cutaway tubing inserts.Cause I don't wanna come back down from this cloud... ~ Bush
skymedic 0 #3 February 25, 2002 It also has slightly more comfy leg pad geometry.....marcBSBD
PhreeZone 15 #4 February 25, 2002 Plus its got some more options and improved leg hardware.Cause I don't wanna come back down from this cloud... ~ Bush
R00tj00se 0 #5 February 25, 2002 Longer riser covers than the original javelin and a quilted backpad for extra comfort. The relocated lateral straps are the dogs bollox though - the rig just does not slip and slide all over your back no matter what position you're in. skybytch 259 #6 February 25, 2002 And you forgot the most important part... the base price includes the Odyssey logos embroidered on the side panels pull and flare,lisa--What would Scooby Doo?
skymedic 0 #7 February 25, 2002 Very true...and very important part there bytch...marcBSBD
R00tj00se 0 #8 February 25, 2002 I hate the Odyssey logo - it's just too much IMO. Prefer the simple word Javelin with a javelin through it!
nws01 0 #9 February 25, 2002 If money was not an object would you prefer the Odyssey or the G3 Unisyn? Why?Nathan
weid14 0 #10 February 25, 2002 teh unisyn cause the way the system was designed you don't get the krinkle in the main lift webbing when you're not standing up straight, and you can flex at the chest and the cut away/reserve cables don't get exposed more than in their normal position. That, and the foam is higher quality as well as the end connectors for the cut away housings. All the flaps stay put, too. Plus I like the way the Mirage looks (but it's a secondary thing). skymedic 0 #11 February 25, 2002 I know your biased Dave, but even though I own an Odyssey I still would buy a mirage unysin.....for the main pin protection more than anything....I believe it is time for sunpath to come up with something a little bit better.....marcBSBD
weid14 0 #12 February 25, 2002 well, I'm only biased for the reasons I stated before. I'm not sponsored or anything, just like their engineering.
skymedic 0 #13 February 25, 2002 I know your not sponsered....I just know you like em...a wot...marcBSBD
nws01 0 #14 February 26, 2002 I love my G3. I saw a lot of Odysseys in Florida and I just wondered what the difference was. Although I have heard that most professional teams at Nationals, etc. support the Javelins. Why do you think this is? Sponsorships or personal preference?Nathan
weid14 0 #15 February 26, 2002 Sun Path are excellent marketers. They really are. Put your name out there, tell everyone you're number 1 and people will buy it - and they have. Believe me, those guys have a sweet deal. Relative workshop decided to pull out of sponsoring teams, they have their reasons, I'm sure. Sun Path has picked up the slack in a big way, mroe power to them. Hey, whatever works. "if it's free, it's for me" works for many people.
skymedic 0 #16 February 26, 2002 Well the way I see it is Arizona Airspeed could get sponsorship from any of the major manufactures along with the nights....So obviously they like the rig for more than the sponsorship thing....marcBSBD
skymedic 0 #17 February 26, 2002 But Dave, I dont believe they would jump an inferior rig....do you? speaking along the arizona airspeed theme....marcBSBD
weid14 0 #18 February 26, 2002 no, they wouldn't jump an inferior rig, BUT.... if they are comfortable with it, and they are getting a better sponsorship than another brand, that may sway the decision a bit. Javelin makes a decent rig, they really do, but in my opinion, the engineering is just that much [index finger and thump held a little ways apart] better for my money. DanG 1 #19 February 26, 2002 Actually, the improved leg strap tension adjusters, riser inserts, and stainless steel hardware are standard on all Sunpath rigs now. I recently bought a stardard Javelin and was happily suprised to find all of the above at no extra cost. I did, however, have to pay extra to have "Javelin" sewn on the sides, but hey, it looks cool. The only things different on the Oddessy are the laterals and wider leg straps for comfort.- Dan G
