parachute?

Recommended Posts

About 30 some odd years ago at Bill Booths house there was an interesting discussion about things you could use as parachutes. Bill wanted to use the plastic grocery bags with light string tied to each bag handle. I don't think it was ever done.

So was it done and if not what are the strangest things (actual) that have been jumped. (with pics)? I've started saving grocery bags. should have enough by the end of summer.

A LOT, and I mean a LOT, of effort went into trying to figure out how to jump Glad bags. Bill hoped to sell the idea to the Glad Bag company as an idea for the "Man From Glad".

The challenges were in line attachment then the biggie turned out to be reefing the opening. The bags would open so immediately that nobody would even consider trying to jump a set.

Bill was funny about it. He said it might be hard to jump and get it open but it would really suck if it started to come apart at a couple hunderd feet. Wonder how he would feel now that he has a working "Skyhook".

Bobby Grey put a bunch of effort into this project.

Rapel down a rope from a balloon, get it swinging...the momentun will inflate the bags , then let go!

dont think the skyhook would help any if the bags were all shredded, it would probably get more drag from the reserve pc than shredded trashbags

Sabre 1 170

That's my main parachute, and I don't think it's a strange one. It was very popular in its day. Care to elaborate?

yeah, I was gonna say "Hey, I jump a Sabre 1 170.. What gives?"

Darn thing might be a little old, but it flies pretty good.
