smoke makers

Recommended Posts

If your profile is up to date you need some more experience before you jump smoke.

But, Paragear is the easiest.

New shipping regulations and regulations on military type smoke have made it harder to get and use. Also, nobody wants to stain/burn their $4000 rig these days. Stains and burns from sparks are common and expected when jumping smoke, especially military type smoke in freefall.

Haven't done any smoke jumps in awhile but the last few I did were with teathered smoke deployed under canopy.

No details on technique so you get compitent instruction when your ready.

I believe there is a formula for making your own smoke somewhere on the internet. I forget the title, but chase the usual things ( smoke bombs etc) and you'll likely find it.

Detonation may prove challenging, but Im sure it can be accomplished.

I have a bunch of this stuff that I'm building a bracket for. It burns cool enough to pick up with your hand but it has to be lit when you're already under canopy. The contraption I'm putting together will allow me to burn three at a time thus enabling a billowing cloud under canopy.

Go to a plumbing supply house and you can get the small ones for under $2.00 each. Good luck trying to light the fuse under canopy.

As a full time pyrotechnist with 25 years of experience with the last 12 making smoke full time, I would STRONGLY encourage you to NOT NOT NOT jump with any homemade pyro device, including a smoke. WAY too much can go wrong and I'm guessing that "wrong" would be VERY inconvenient while your thousand of feet off the ground.
PLEASE DON'T!
